2pm – 4pm – Woodbridge Museum<br />

Get to know the history behind the<br />

town by visiting Woodbridge Museum<br />

which takes you through its evolution<br />

from an Anglo-Saxon town to the market<br />

town it is today. Learn about the history<br />

of its ship building connections and<br />

its status as a Garrison town through<br />

the Napoleonic wars. The museum is<br />

open 10.30am to 4.30pm every day<br />

throughout May to October.<br />

4pm – 5pm – Check into your<br />

accommodation<br />

By now you’ll be ready to find your<br />

accommodation for the night and<br />

freshen up for an evening of dining.<br />

Particular favourites include the stylish<br />

loft inspired holiday home, The Old<br />

Warehouse, situated in a prime location<br />

tucked away off The Thoroughfare<br />

and the chic nautical rooms at The<br />

Crown. Low Farm Cottages is perfect for<br />

families looking to self-cater. If you enjoy<br />

the great outdoors, Sutton Hoo Holiday<br />

Campsite provides camping facilities for<br />

cars and caravans looking to pitch up<br />

overnight.<br />

5pm – 9pm – Pre dinner drink &<br />

evening meal<br />

After all that exploring you will be<br />

ready for a refreshing drink and dinner<br />

to relax into the evening. Visit The<br />

Unruly Pig with its extensive collection<br />

of wine, cider and local ales and<br />

hearty menu. The Ufford Crown is a<br />

superb recommended family pub and<br />

restaurant, while The Ramsholt Arms<br />

provides alfresco dining opportunities<br />

and great views over the river.<br />

Day 2<br />

9am – 10am – Breakfast<br />

Head to the likes of Honey + Harvey or<br />

Wild Strawberry Café, firm favourites<br />

among locals. Further afield, and great<br />

for combining with a walk to take in the<br />

local countryside, is The Blue Rabbit<br />

Café. A small hut located in the field at<br />

Shottisham Campsite, here ingredients<br />

travel mere meters! Hens hop around<br />

on site, there’s goats and their own<br />

rare-breed pigs. It may be a 15-minute<br />

drive from Woodbridge, but it’s worth a<br />

stop for a breakfast bap or cake if you’re<br />

in the area.<br />

10am – 1pm – Deben Peninsula<br />

Boots laced and bellies full, it’s time<br />

to take a scenic walk to the Deben<br />

Peninsula; don’t forget your camera!<br />

With beautiful purple heathlands, this<br />

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is<br />

not to be missed. The area is protected<br />

by the local conservation group and is<br />

home to hundreds of species of wildlife<br />

and birds native to this unspoilt area.<br />

On your route you will also come across<br />

the National Trust Sutton Hoo, home<br />

to one of the greatest archaeological<br />

discoveries of all time – an Anglo-Saxon<br />

ship burial.<br />

1pm – 2pm – Lunch<br />

On your walk you will come across<br />

the village of Orford, which is home<br />

to colourful cottages and some of<br />

Suffolk’s finest producers. Pump Street<br />

Chocolate Bakery is a chocolate lover’s<br />

dream offering daily baked bread and<br />

pastries, hot drinks, artisan foods and<br />

of course locally produced chocolate<br />

in many forms. The Butley Orford<br />

Oysterage is iconic. Grab a seat in the<br />

rustic restaurant and enjoy a plate of<br />

delicious seafood.<br />

2pm – 5pm – Cycle Tour<br />

For your final afternoon, swap two<br />

legs for two wheels. The 15-mile cycle<br />

ride starts at Woodbridge train station<br />

car park and follows roads and quiet<br />

lanes to the beautiful riverside village<br />

of Waldringfield. The return route visits<br />

the village of Hemley and nearby<br />

Newbourne <strong>Spring</strong>s Nature Reserve.<br />

Bike hire is available from Suffolk Cycle<br />

Hire which hires mountain bikes or<br />

tourers. They can even be delivered to<br />

you at the train station and collected<br />

too. Prices start from £18 per adult per<br />

day, child seats are £5 per day.<br />
