Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow.” ~ Maya Angelou My mom, Karen Mitchell, is my world. She knows me better than I know myself. My mom is my hero. Through the sacrifices she makes, she shows unconditional love for my two sisters and me. Not only is she my mom, she is my best friend. She has a strong faith and lives it every day. She prays daily for my family and is my biggest supporter. She has not always been in the best health. In 2016, she had a health challenge. She originally had pneumonia, but her condition worsened over time. Her life was in danger, and she spent a lot of time in the hospital. She had an amazing recovery. My mom has had such an important impact on my life. My mom challenges me to be my best self and do my best. She is always there for me. She picks me up when I fall. She loves me no matter what. I am so blessed to have a mother who loves me unconditionally. She gives me care, happiness and strength. I thank God every day to have a mother like my mom, Karen Mitchell. Gracelyn Mitchell, 14 Stoneybrook West My mom makes me feel good. She encourages me by saying thoughtful, nice things. That makes me feel confident. My mom also motivates me to be a better person. She once told me to be like an eagle and soar higher than all the other birds. I love her for that. My mother also tells me to be confident. I’m constantly worrying about what other people think and say about me, but my mom tells me not to care, and it helps me. Moreover, my dear, beloved mother brightens up my day. When I come home from school, my mother flashes her charming, bright smile at me. Another thing that highlights my day is her happiness. Whenever she goes to work, she never forgets to say, “Good morning,” to her fellow workmates. If my mom is in a bad mood, she still manages to sprinkle some happiness around. The last thing I love is her confidence. I envy it because I have no confidence whatsoever. My mom is who I want to be like because of that delightful feature. My mother gives me her attention and time. One time, I was in her office, and she came to see if I was hungry when she was supposed to be in a meeting. This shows she is very caring. Another time was when I had a science project, and I needed help. My mom took time out of her schedule to help me. She always helps me with my needs. Jiji Valois, 11 Westminster Landing My mom makes sure all my needs are met by feeding me three meals a day plus healthy snacks. She provides me with a home with a solid roof over my head and a proper bed to sleep in. She makes sure that I wear clean clothes without stains and/or holes in them. She makes sure that I have good mental health and nothing is bothering me. My mom is supportive of me. She knows when I am struggling with schoolwork, and she helps me. Sports are important to me, and my mom is always there rooting me on. My health comes first, so she takes me to every doctor’s appointment and makes sure my shots are up to date. She would never want me to be sick or hurt. My mom is patient and understanding with me, and she listens to me no matter what the circumstances are. She will always accept me regardless of which pronoun I identify with. She knows deep down inside how I am feeling and only wants the best for me. My mom will always be there for me, and I am lucky she is all mine! Madison Wexler, 12 Black Lake Park Do you need some glue? Well, my mom is the most wonderful glue out there. She has helped to keep me together even through the toughest times. She has always been there for me no matter what I’m facing, whether it’s having a bad day at school or breaking my arm. She is still the same supporting person. Even when she is having a bad day, she wants to make sure mine is the best possible. I know my mom will always be there. I want to be as good a parent as she is when I have kids, but it won’t be easy. When I was younger, I thought the only point of life was to get money. Thanks to my mom, she has shown that there is so much more to life like friends and family. I love my mom because when I make a mistake, there is no consequence. She turns it into a lesson. My mom is best because she not only helps me, but she helps the local community by donating to important charities like Toys for Tots and food drives and donates gifts for kids whose parents don’t have enough. My mom is the best. She is so much more than the best mom in the Southwest! Zachary Martin, 11 Windsor Landing My mom is the best because she is the best cuddler and the best at giving snuggles. She makes really good lunches for me to take to school. (Blake) Mom makes good ham and cheese sandwiches, and she takes me to MyGym, music class and Princesses & Princes. (Drew) Blake Hanigosky, 5, & Drew Hanigosky, 2 1/2 Regency Oaks at Stone Crest My mom is the best mom because she cooks for me. I remember I was feeling sad one time, and she cooked my favorite dinner — pasta and red sauce. My mom plays with me when I don’t have anybody to play with, like when my sister did not include me, Mom played soccer with me. Did you know she lets me buy stuff, and one time, she was the best mother in the world by letting me get my ears pierced when I was only 4 years old. She snuggles with me when I’m sad. When I tell her something bad happened, and I get in trouble, she hugs me. She takes care of two amazing daughters. If one of us gets hurt, she will run outside and help us. I love my mother so much! I cannot wait until she reads this. Please, give a big shoutout to my mom, Stacie Chiddister! I love you so much, Mommy! Eva Chiddister, 8 Turnburry Woods My mom is the best. She is always up to trying something new. My mom loves roller coasters and always goes on them with me. She went on Rip Ride Rocket with me at Universal Studios. I was crazy-scared, but my mom comforted me through it. It ended up being great! My mom is so brave, she has even gone on The Hulk! She has gone skydiving two or three times. My mom is super adventurous. My mother comforts me in rough times. When I need help studying math, science or language arts, she jumps up and offers to help even when I don’t ask. She talks to me with care and kindness in her voice. She is caring and kind. My mom makes time for me and my family, and she is considerate. She sometimes comes home from work early to talk with me and enjoy quality time. She even picks me up from school and leaves work to bring me to singing lessons. My mom puts others before herself. She makes sure I do the things I love, such as singing and the play. My mom does everything for us, and she deserves so much love. She’s the best mom in the universe. Morgan Papp, 11 Windermere My mom is the best because she gives me food and stuff. She loves me and plays with me ... every game ... even boxing. Every time I go to the pool, she pushes me in. It scares me, but I like it a lot. My mom makes me snacks like chicken fingers. She reads me books, too. After I read my books, she lets me play my Nintendo Wii. My mom taught me how to golf, put on my pajamas, and relax. If I am a wild boy, she makes me relax ... usually around 8 o’clock. That is the time she reminds me to brush my teeth, too. She makes sure I don’t have any monsters in my mouth. My mom lets me cook paratha (flatbread). She got me a Mickey Mouse apron to keep me clean. When I help her cook, my mom calls me chef Jeff. When Mom picks me up from school, she makes sure I get my “magic soap” (hand sanitizer) every day. If I am a good boy during the week, my mom goes to Starbucks and gets me a hot chocolate and cake pop. Every time I think of my mom, I think of dancing. She is my dancing queen. She lets me disco — but I have energy, so that is about one minute, and then she is tired. I love you, Mama. n Charities/Fundraisers May 8 — Paws In The Park Downtown Orlando’s Lake Eola Park hosts the 27th annual Paws in the Park pet festival, including adoptable pets, doggy sports, a costume contest, photo stations, doggy fun zone, pet-friendly vendors, food trucks and more. Attendees are encouraged to register now and start fundraising. Participants who raise $15 receive a commemorative dog bandana, and those who raise $75 receive an event T-shirt. Paws in the Park is also featuring a virtual component this year for people who prefer to take part from home. Time: 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Admission is free. This annual photo album, dedicated to Southwest Orlando dads, is one way to say thanks for all the time spent on learning the ins and outs of fatherhood, and to show our local dads that they are loved and appreciated every day.
