The principal and

accredited elders of

Akwaanor Royal Family

of Ashalaja in the Ga

South municipality of

the Greater Accra Region have

performed traditions and customs

to officially appoint a new head of

the family.

The Principal new Head of

the family is in the person of

Nii Armah Quansah who was

appointed on September 7, 2021,

to replace the former Head of

Akwaanor Royal Family, Mr

Solomon Mintah Ackaah, who was

removed following several charges

of wrongdoings levelled against

him.

In order to make the change

legal and genuine, the elders

have instructed the Kwame Gyan

and Associate Law Firm in Accra

to officially write to inform Mr

Ackaah that the family has resolved

after a meeting held on August 19,

2021, to remove him [Mr Ackaah]

per the customs and traditions of

the people of Ashalaja.

"We want to state on record

that the Commission has not

recommended the grant of a mining

lease, nor has the Minister

for Lands and Natural Resources

granted a mining lease or authorisation

to Barari/Ironridge or

any company whatsoever to mine

or extract lithium in Ghana,'

the Chief Executive of Minerals

Commission, Mr Martin Ayisi, has

stated.

In a press statement copied

to this news outlet and signed by

Mr Ayisi, it noted that the attention

of the Minerals Commission

has been drawn to a statement

and a video in the public domain

on the discovery of one hundred

and fifty billion dollars’ (US

$150 billion) worth of lithium in

Ghana.

It said while lithium has been

discovered in Ghana, the quantity

and other information contained

in the statement and video were

false and misleading.

According to the statement,

the Barari DV Ghana Limited

(Barari), a wholly-owned Ghanaian

company, which holds a prospecting

license for gold, lithium

and other minerals, discovered

lithium at Ewoyaa near Saltpond

in the Mfantsiman Municipality

of the Central Region.

It noted that Barari operates

through joint venture with Ironridge

Resources Limited (Ironridge),

an Australian incorporated

company which is listed on the

have made a resolution to remove

Mr Ackaah by the customs and

traditions of the people of Ashalaja.

They explained that their

decision to remove the head of the

Akwaanor Royal Family was as a

result of charges of irresponsibility,

disrespect, unconcerned attitude

towards the welfare of the

Akwaanor Royal Family members

in particular and the people of

Ashalaja in general.

"We have made a resolution

to appoint a new head of family

following the removal of Mr

Ackaah, whose removal was

preceded by the performance of

certain customs.

"We have resolved to ensure

the publication of the removal and

the appointment of a new head of

family to the whole world," they

stated.

Following this development,

the members of the family has

cautioned the general public to

desist from buying land from

Mr Ackaah, stressing that he has

(AIM), a sub-market of the London

Stock Exchange in the UK.

The statement asserted that

the discovery made by Barari/

Ironridge still required further

exploration before a feasibility

study can be undertaken.

Consequently, the statement

noted that all activities of Barari/

Ironridge at this stage were purely

for exploration.

The statement emphasised

that the Commission has not

recommended the grant of a mining

lease, nor has the Minister

for Lands and Natural Resources

granted a mining lease or authorisation

to Barari/Ironridge or

any company whatsoever to mine

or extract lithium in Ghana.

In view of the above, the

statement informed the general

public that the Ironridge has not

been granted a mining lease to

mine lithium in Ghana therefore

the statement in the public

domain that Ironridge has been

granted a thirty-year mining

lease, renewable for another thirty

years, is false.

According to the statement,

there is no tax holiday under the

fiscal regime for mining in Ghana

and no such waiver has been

granted to ironridge.

It said the ironridge has not

submitted a feasibility study or

report to the Commission which

has defined or delineated lithium

reserves in Ewoyaa to be worth

US$150 billion; and ironridge

is not registered as an entity or

company operating in the Free

Zones.

The Commission in the

statement reminded the media

and the general public that the

Minerals Commission is available

to provide information on all

mining activities or operations in

Ghana and the public is advised

to seek clarification or verify such

information with the Commission

before they are made public.
