OVERVIEW Azusa Pacific University (APU) provides Christ-centered academic excellence as it equips students to become difference makers around the world. APU is a comprehensive, nondenominational Christian university located 26 miles northeast of Los Angeles, California, offering more than 120 degrees from bachelor’s to doctorate. Serving more than 10,000 students from various or no faith backgrounds, Azusa Pacific University has been putting God First since 1899. Today, APU offers 68 bachelor’s degrees, 47 master’s degrees, 9 doctoral degrees, 18 certificates, and 9 credentials at the university’s main campus in Azusa, seven regional locations in Southern California, and online programs. As a flagship institution of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU), APU has 73,696 alumni and 1,791 dedicated faculty and staff. APU is a rich community of scholars and leaders with more than 66% of its students coming from ethnically diverse backgrounds, reflecting the rich diversity of Southern California. Intentionally maintaining an open enrollment policy, Azusa Pacific welcomes all who choose to be educated in the context of a strong, unwavering traditional Christian worldview that permeates the university and guides its activity. Azusa Pacific enjoys many distinctives that make it a leader in Christian higher education: • A hallmark of APU is that its faculty and staff share a commitment first to Christ; they are deeply relational, compassionate and caring, love APU and its students, and work to create environments and experiences that encourage a lifelong love of learning, spiritual development, and community engagement. • APU is committed to diversity and is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (as defined by the U.S. Department of Education), and is eligible to become an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPI); APU is continually enhancing its programs to support first-generation and other underserved students. • APU is one of only two colleges and universities of the 180-member CCCU nationally recognized as a Carnegie Classification R2 Doctoral University with high research activity consistent with outstanding faculty scholarship. • APU offers more than 150 academic programs focused on Christ-centered academic excellence. • The School of Nursing is ranked as a top 10 program in the nation (USA Today) and in California at No.1 (College Factual). • The School of Education is 1 of only 13 California schools of education with national accreditation. • The Honors College is recognized as 1 of 5 “Hidden Gems” Honors Colleges in the nation (American Council of Trustees and Alumni). • The School of Music is ranked No. 7 in California (College Factual 2020). • The Doctor of Physical Therapy program has a 97% graduation rate, 100% pass rate on the National Physical Therapy Exam, and 100% employment in the field. • APU has a top-20 NCAA Division II athletic program, with more than 450 student-athletes competing in 19 intercollegiate sports, while collectively maintaining a 3.2 grade-point average. APU boasts 51 national and 138 conference championships, 14 alumni professional athletes, 14 Olympians, and 7 Olympic medals. • Alumni ranked APU in the Top 25 Universities in the Nation according to the Journal of Consumer Affairs and featured by Forbes. • 16 APU faculty and 40 APU students have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships since 2003. • APU’s affiliated online university Los Angeles Pacific University (LAPU) has enrolled 11,431 students since its launch in June 2011. Like most institutions of higher education today, Azusa Pacific is not without challenges, and the next President will need to be gifted and prepared accordingly. APU has endured financial trials, and, just as APU’s recovery began in 2019-2020, the pandemic hit and slowed its momentum, but remarkable changes and improvements also occurred. With its diverse programs and revenue streams in undergraduate, graduate, professional and online offerings, APU is poised for renewal under the visionary leadership of its 18th President. There is a strong commitment and passion for APU and its mission among key members of the staff and faculty who are looking for a dynamic and innovative President who will join them for the long-term and lead APU with boldness and humility into the future putting God First. The potential for APU is enormous. APU enjoys a stellar reputation for producing graduates who rise above their peers in work ethic, knowledge, and professionalism.
