The Men’s
Specialist
Shared interests, afeature
Celebrant Bernard Egan, of
Ashburton, took the service, Barb’s
eldest daughter read averseand,
while there was live music (Gary’s
23yearold niece singing and playing
guitar), they mostly used their own
Spotify playlist selections througha
sound system.
Barb walked up the aisle to Shania
Twain’s duet with Bryan White ‘From
this Moment On’, Gary’s niece sung
Adele’s ‘Make you Feel My Love’
during the registry signing and the
couple walked together after the
service to Barbara Streisand and
Bryan Adams singing ‘I finally found
Someone’ as guests used bubble
wands on the lawn.
They had aPlan Aand aPlan Bfor
the day,which includedoutdoor and
indoor options, Gary says.
But thankfully theweather played
its part andthe day, andthe rainthat
was threatening stayed away for the
ceremony.
Christchurch photographer
Tamara Butterfield, of Koru
Photography, captured theday’s
momentsperfectly, arriving early and
staying through until evening.
Aftersecuring aweddingvenue,
selecting aphotographer was among
the couple’s priority points, which
they booked early in theyear.
There was also thecaterer; the
opted for caterer Country Feasts,
after getting advice fromWaipuna
Estate host Sarah Smith, who‘‘was so
approachable’’and offered awealth
of information and support.
The tailored buffet spread, and
cost, tantalised the couples tastebuds
and included whole baked King
Salmon, Champagne ham, Canterbury
lamb, TexanBBQ chicken, gourmet
potatoes, salads and vegetables.
There were fingertype desert
options which included cheesecakes,
mini pavlovas and other little treats.
Barb says being organised was
important when planning the
wedding, butissues did arise which
had potential to throw things off
kilter.
The couple's daywas hindered by
covid disruptions; the September
wedding was actually thesecond date
they had planned. Their original plan
was due to take place on August 27
Gary’s birthday but due to covid
restrictions and the country’s second
national lockdown, it was postponed.
But getting anew date meant coordinating
allthe wedding suppliers,
which took time, Barb says. They also
had to chop back their guest list of 57
people to accommodatechanges for
Delta level restrictions, which was set
at 50 people indoors.
While acouple of guests from
Auckland were automatically unable
to attend, and others didvolunteer,
there werestill extras that had to be
uninvited. ‘‘It was horrible,’’ Barb
says, remembering back.
The newlyweds stayed over an
extra night at Waipuna,then afew
days later embarked on their
honeymoontoabackcountry
hideaway hut, near Wanaka.
The hut, only accessible by
helicopter, came complete with two
private chefs and twowaitresses. By
day they explored the Central Otago
high country on day trip tramps andat
night enjoyed the peaceful
tranquillity.
