Super Saturday in Hurunui<br />

Covid­19 vaccination rates in the<br />

community withfourclinicsopenfor jabs<br />

in the districtthis weekend.<br />

The pushispart of the Government’s<br />

Super Saturdayinitiative to driveNew<br />

Zealand's fully vaccinatednumbers up to<br />

90 percentormore.<br />

Prime MinisterJacindaArdern says<br />

highvaccinationratesinNew Zealand<br />

would be agamechanger for Kiwis<br />

becauseitwouldallowfewerlifestyle<br />

restrictions.<br />

She wants to see 90 per cent of people<br />

aged12and olderfully vaccinatedagainst<br />

Covid 19 to give Kiwis better protection<br />

against thevirus.<br />

But there is along waytogotoreach<br />

that figure with only 57 percentofthe<br />

population fullyvaccinated and 82 per<br />

cent having had their first dose.<br />

ThepracticemanageratHanmer<br />

Springs Health Centre, Paul Walmsley,<br />

says everyone hasarole to play in<br />

protecting ‘‘ourselves,our whanauand<br />

ourcommunity’’ by getting vaccinated.<br />

‘‘Ithas neverbeen more urgent to get<br />

vaccinated.Weare pulling out all the<br />

stops to increase ourvaccination rates,’’<br />

he says.<br />

Everyone in Hurunui is being asked to<br />

contribute towards thepush for<br />

vaccinationthis weekend duringSuper<br />

Saturday(on <strong>October</strong> 16) and on Sunday<br />

(<strong>October</strong> 17).<br />

‘‘Ifyou areone of themany peoplewho<br />

have already had 1or2doses—Shot!But<br />

your job is notdone,’’ Paul says.<br />

‘‘Tobest protect your whanau,<br />

community, and therestofthe Hurunui,<br />

we are asking you to help us reachyour<br />

friends, whanau, andcolleagues whomay<br />

stillhavesome hesitation about being<br />

vaccinatedand need some helpand<br />

On Sunday aCovid­19 vaccination clinic<br />

will be openatthe WaikariHealth Centre,<br />

Vaccination clinicswillalso be openin<br />

many otherareas around<strong>North</strong><br />

<strong>Canterbury</strong>atthe weekend.<br />

In Kaiapoi, the vaccination clinic being<br />

held at theKaiapoi Family Doctors<br />

surgery at 42 CharlesStreet,isfully<br />

booked forvaccinations this Saturday, but<br />

thevaccinationclinic administrator, Alan<br />

Gamble,ofRangiora, saystheycan still<br />

acceptpeople withoutbookings.<br />

Onehundred and thirty people<br />

received vaccinations at the clinic last<br />

Saturday, with some having their first<br />

dose and others having their seconddose.<br />

‘‘We wanttoencourage people to come<br />

andget vaccinatedand we can accept<br />

some walk­ins.<br />

‘‘We won’tturnanyone away because it<br />

is important we get everyone vaccinated,<br />

butpeople withoutbookingsmay haveto<br />

wait awee while.’’<br />
