battle for Greystanes<br />

there’s plenty of competition as a dozen candidates put their hand up<br />

Number two on Labor’s ticket is Sandra<br />

Doumit, a mother and solicitor for the<br />

Australia’s Workers Union. She is a strong<br />

advocate for protecting workers rights<br />

and is passionate about securing a water<br />

splash park for the Greystanes Ward.<br />

Third is university student Akin Songur,<br />

who is passionate about sustainability.<br />

Aparna Vats will also throw her hat in<br />

the ring, leading a group of independents<br />

including Maya Jamal-Eddine and<br />

Zaynoun Atie. Ms Vats is a registered<br />

member of the Liberal Party.<br />

In the 2017 Local Government Election,<br />

Labor received its highest number of<br />

primary votes in the Greystanes Ward,<br />

taking out 44.7 per cent. The Liberal Party<br />

held 27.4 per cent and OLC held 18.7 per<br />

cent.<br />
