Celebrating our frontline workers
Last week I was thrilled to host the Lord Mayor’s
Community Christmas Celebration in honour of
our hardworking frontline workers. This event was
a great opportunity to recognise those who have
served our community throughout the pandemic
and highlight the important and critical services
they provide.
I met with representatives from NSW Health, NSW
Police Force, NSW Ambulance, Fire & Rescue
NSW and SES, 1st/15th Royal NSW Lancers, and
a large number of community organisations.
The sacrifices they made to look after us during
such a tough period is inspirational and, on
behalf of the City of Parramatta, I thank our
frontline workers for all they have done, and
continue to do, for our community.
On the night, the Lady Mayoress and I were
also pleased to announce Council’s donation
of $10,000 to Ward Angels. This not-for-profit
organisation supports sick children and their
families by donating goods that provide comfort,
entertainment, and distraction.
Working closely with hospitals, hospital staff
and families, Ward Angels’ volunteers also run
feel-good events for families such as Christmas
lunches, support families with sick children who
may be struggling financially, and aid hospital
programs by providing equipment and supplies.
Last chance to nominate your local hero
Winners of the 2021 Citizen of the Year Awards.
If you know a local hero who has made an
outstanding contribution to our community,
now is your chance to let us know. Citizen of
the Year Awards run across four categories and
I encourage you to recognise neighbours, friends
or colleagues, whether it be for achievements
in education, sports, community engagement,
business, arts, welfare, volunteering, offering acts
of kindness or more.
These awards are a part of Council’s Australia
Day program. The award categories are:
• Young Citizen of the Year in honour of David
Shakespeare OAM: 16–30 years
• Citizen of the Year: 31–64 years
• Senior Citizen of the Year: 65 years and over
• Community Group Award

2021.

The DIAP was designed
to strengthen Council’s
commitment to inclusion,
consultation and rights for people
with disability. The plan was envisaged
as the primary tool for Council in identifying
and delivering on practical measures to meet
the diverse needs of people with disability and
build strong and equitable communities.

Shop local this festive season
With the festive season just around the corner,
Council has published its ever-popular annual
Good Gift Guide - filled with wonderful and
unique ideas from a number of local businesses.
The guide features a wide range of categories
including food, homewares, clothing and kids’
toys made by local social enterprises, fair trade,
ethical purchasing and environmentally friendly
businesses, indigenous owned/founded
businesses, charities and more.
Feel good this holiday season and make your
gifts even more meaningful by supporting
businesses that have a positive impact on our
community.

Disability Inclusion Action Plan Renewal
Council is seeking feedback on its current Disability
and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). We want to
hear about your experiences, your big ideas and
what you see as opportunities for the City of
Parramatta to create a more inclusive community.
Submissions will be reviewed and used to inform
a new plan.

The City of Parramatta Good Gift Guide is filled with plenty
of unique gift ideas by local businesses.
Please note: Since printed copies of many of our local newspapers are no longer available,
all Development Applications (DAs), items on exhibition, and public notices will now be available
via Council’s website: cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au
Council Meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 6.30pm. In line with
NSW Government’s easing of COVID-19 restrictions, fully vaccinated members of the public can
now attend in person. COVID-safe measures will be in place and attendees must check in, show
proof of vaccination status, and wear a face mask. The one person per 4 square metre rule will also
