That may helpyou rein in your spending and tackleyour debt.Create a new self-image byunderstanding that changing yourattitudes and behaviour in respect tomoney is an important part of youridentity and your emotional wellbeing.Working toward a betterfinancial situation, and benefitingfrom it personally, will make you feelbetter about yourself, sleep betterand improve your relationships.Make a commitment to change bysetting personal goals, includingmaking the aforementioned budget,and sticking to them. It can be assimple as limiting yourself to onerestaurant outing a week or packingyour lunch instead of buying it everywork day. Start taking active, tangiblesteps toward your financial wellbeing.Use substitutes, or healthyalternative behaviours instead ofharmful ones. Get to know yourself.What are you doing well and what arethe things that need to change? Keepdoing what you do well and startworking on what you have to change.If you go to the mall during lunchbreak and keep buying clothes thatyou never wear, go for a walk in thepark instead. If you buy articles youdon’t need just because they’re onsale, make a list of items you actuallyneed—and stick to it. Or make a listof the number of times you’ve boughtsale items and then never worn theclothes you’ve purchased. It may besobering.Manage your environment to avoidengaging in harmful behaviours. Ifyou know that you’re spendingmindlessly when using your creditcard, leave your credit card at homeand take only cash with you. If youknow that going shopping with afriend makes you spend more, go byyourself. Set up automatic transfersto your savings account every pay dayto limit your spending and build upsavings.Ultimately, reward yourself formaking progress and becoming morein control of your finances by usingnon-monetary rewards like spendingquality time with a friend or lovedone. Keep in mind that happiness canbe achieved without spending a lot ofmoney. Go for a hike, cook a mealtogether.Get support. If you can’t do it byyourself, ask for help.
