Good old fashioned family values and a sense of community spirit are at the heart of everything they do. “For the last two years we have seen the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on families and the community and especially at Christmas” says Myles Laing, Managing Director. “We wanted to do something meaningful and what better way than to bring some joy to children this Christmas” Laing Properties reached out to the local Hornby Salvation Army branch to understand the needs in the community. The Salvation Army Community Ministries staff and volunteers at the Hornby centre, work tirelessly to assist throughout the year by providing a number of services. Financial Mentoring, Positive Lifestyle Programme, Social Events for the whole family, Community Cuppa each week with free bread available, Advocacy, Support and Welfare Needs, Life related Bible Study each week and Sunday gatherings for the whole family. During the month of December, they receive hundreds of requests from families hoping for some help with Christmas presents for their children. In 2020 they helped between 50-60 families provide gifts for their children and to enjoy a Christmas dinner. Major Gill Waugh, Director & Pastor at Hornby Community Ministries says “The outcomes of two years of Covid-19 and its ripple effect means we are seeing a steadily increasing demand for the services of The Salvation Army, as are many other organisations and agencies. The outcomes being seen are not only financial, with loss of jobs and decrease in hours of work, but also issues with housing and the impacts on physical and mental wellbeing. This amazing and generous gift from Laings will be such a boost to many families in our community and will help create positive memories and a fun day for children and families with gifts and food” Laing Properties is absolutely overjoyed, in conjunction with their staff, friends and family and valued subcontractors to be able to provide a substantial toy and gift voucher donation to The Salvation Army this Christmas. And it’s not too late for you to be a part. The Salvation Army will be accepting toy donations right up until Friday 17th December.
