Get on your bike
over the summer

Whether you’re a bicycle enthusiast
or just looking for something
new to do, Parramattabased
Bicycle User Group, CAMWEST
has some fun rides for you to try these
holidays.
CAMWEST Bicycle User Group,
associated with Bicycle NSW, is inviting
the wider community to sample some
self-guided bike rides that focus on the
Parramatta, Blacktown and Cumberland
Local Government Areas.
CAMWEST aims to encourage community
members to get out on their bikes and
explore some of the great shared paths
and quieter roads that western Sydney has
to offer.
Recently they’ve created some selfguided
routes on the Ride With GPS
(RWGPS) app and web platform.
With the RWGPS app running on your
mobile device, customised turn-by-turn
voice cues are read out as you ride.
CAMWEST Vice President, Rob Kemp
said it’s a fun way to get outdoors and
explore your local community.
“These routes offer a fantastic opportunity
for those who are not sure where to
cycle or are nervous about getting lost to
venture out and explore some of the great
cycling routes around western Sydney and
beyond,” he said.
“Maybe I’m biased, but I reckon western
Sydney offers some of the best and most
varied recreational cycling in NSW.”
The seven documented routes currently
available are between 15 and 30km in
length and start and finish at railway or
metro stations.
The routes are a mixture of one-way
and loop routes, with additional routes in
the planning stages, to be added over the
coming months.
Each route contains some reasonably
detailed descriptions which should enable
riders who are unfamiliar with the area to
make an informed decision as to whether
they may be suitable for them or their
families.
It also contains additional information
such as locations of restrooms, water
bubblers, food outlets and nearby train
stations.
The voice cue functionality of the
RWGPS app is only available with a paid
subscription.
While users are welcome to take out their

own individual subscriptions, CAMWEST
has a group RWGPS account and can offer
members access at no additional cost.
At $10 per year, a CAMWEST membership
is less than 20 per cent the cost of an
individual RWGPS subscription.
Until the end of January 2022, CAMWEST
are offering free access to its RWGPS
account for anyone who wishes to trial the
self-guided routes.
