551 TA-Viii-4100 Leek Test Procedural Guidelines
(a) Open all I nterconnecting manual system va lves, so,enoid and expansion valves to ensure access to :he ccmp:ete system volume.
CAUTION: Du not exceed 'the safe test pressure " im i ts established by the ;,nit manufaUOrer.
NOTE: It is advantageous and less cosdy to use an ine rt gas (nit ro gen or carbon dioxide) to tack up the refrgerent vapor pressu re . Only about
5% to 10% of the total mixture need be refrigerant vapor for this method to work,
(b) PfessUr 'z the entire system 10 the Man UfaCtUrerS recommended test pressure with Ine lest mixture.
952 TA-VIII-4100
NOTE. Allow time for the refrigerant and +nert gas to mix before checking (or leaks.
Leak Test Procedural Guidelines:
(c) LeaK test the enti re system, including facto ry joints, seals, and insulated lines wiln an electronic 'leak detector. Usually a one inch (2.5 em)
per second Movement: of the detector probe is sufficient to picx up leaks. Soap solution may also be used to locate leaks.
(d) Mark or identify any leaks located.
CAUTION; Jse appropriate reclaim equipment to prevent release of re in gerant gas to the atmosphere.
(e) Leak testing is complete when all leaks have been re pai red and the system has been re-pressurized and retested to verify that there are no
leaks.
953 TA- VIII .4200 Evacuat ion and Dehydration Procedure:
Evacuate and dehydrate after leak testing per VIII . 410 0 . P ro per evacuation and dehydration p ro ve system tightness, expel non-condensaoles,
and assure a dry system before charcing with refrigerant
954 TA-VIII-4210 Deep ''Vacuum Method:
(a) Vent all system p re ssure.
CAUTION: Use app ropriate reclaim equipment to prevent release of refrigerant gas to the atmosphere.
(b) Connect a tempora ry connection between the system high and low p re ssu re sides. Connect the vacuum pump, vacuum indicator, and
refrigerant cylinder to the system.
(c) Open the vacuum pump suc ti on and sta rt the evacuation.
(d) When the system reaches less t.nan 500 micromete rs (Hg) absolute, it is isolated from the vacuum pump.
(e) When the system holds 50C mi crometer (Hg) absolute for at least 15 minutes, w lh the vacuum source isolated, the system is f re e of moisture
rid leaks and the vacuum should be released by chancing with refrigerant,
