About AMSA
What is AMSA?
AMSA is a vibrant student-run organisation that represents, informs and connects all of
Australia’s 17,000 medical students. Hundreds of medical student volunteers work together
to run our professional-standard events, advocacy, projects and publications. We are a
community, and there is a place here for all students. Have a think of what you might be
interested in and contact us at any time. We’re excited to see where Medicine and AMSA
can take you!
Advocacy
As the peak representative body for Australian medical students regularly meets with
government officials and stakeholders in medical education, and utilizes media to publish
articles in medical journals and the AMA to support and effect change for Australian
medical students. Our policies are developed by students like you, reviewed at your
university’s ThinkTank, where your thoughts are collated and presented at National Council.
This year our advocacy policies are as follows:
Improving medical culture by reducing bullying, harassment, and racial discrimination.
Ensuring the medical training pipeline is sustainable and tailored to community needs.
Improving the internship application process and ensuring all Australian medical
graduates have an internship.
Maximising medical education quality, clinical placements and research opportunities.
Improving and destigmatising mental health amongst the medical community and the
Australian population.
Improving Indigenous public health alongside support and representation for
Indigenous medical students.
Striving towards equitable health for women and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Promoting stronger climate action and mitigating health impacts of climate change.
