Time truly flies. It's 2022, and we're welcoming another cohort of first-year students to medical schools across Australia. On behalf of your AMSA, we are so happy to have you! Throughout your degree, AMSA is here to support you at every turn. Whether you have a passion for advocacy or policy, global, rural, Indigenous or queer health, medical education, mental health, gender equity, national and international health politics, leadership, events or community, you will find opportunity for growth and discovery within AMSA. We understand that starting medicine can be daunting, and so our team has put together this guide to help you along the way. Enclosed within are tips and tricks, academic and study, career and networking advice, and available crisis and non-urgent support services.

Initiatives Groups<br />

AMSA has a number of Initiatives Groups made up of passionate volunteers. Our Initiatives<br />

Groups hold events, run competitions, create resources for your learning, and advocate on<br />

important medical student issues. <strong>The</strong>y are a great way to start your involvement with AMSA<br />

and to develop your professional skills.<br />

AMSA Global Health (GH) is our largest initiative group and represents the medical<br />

students’ global health interests. GH has got you covered from learning about global<br />

issues, volunteering for their projects, to advocacy on a local and global level.<br />

AMSA Mental Health focuses on enriching the mental health of medical students. We<br />

raise awareness and connect you with resources for nurturing your mental health.<br />

AMSA <strong>Med</strong> Ed is the branch of AMSA concerned with all things related to medical<br />

education in Australia (divided into Resources and Research). Access many resources<br />

such as the National Question Bank and practice OSCEs on amsamoodle.org.au.<br />

AMSA Vampire Cup is our inter-university annual national blood drive competition. Join<br />

to be a bloody legend!<br />

AMSA International collaborates and advocates AMSA’s stance amongst the<br />

International Federation of <strong>Med</strong>ical Students Associations (IFMSA), and promotes<br />

international resources and events including those at the WHO and UN, to international<br />

clinical and research exchanges.<br />

Publications<br />

AMSA releases many digital publications designed to educate, entertain, and inspire. <strong>The</strong>se<br />

publications range from guides such as this one, a peer-reviewed journal, magazines to<br />

amplify your voice, to newsletters and bulletins alike!<br />

Orange <strong>Guide</strong> is a comprehensive summary of all things AMSA!<br />

Internship <strong>Guide</strong> is our popular guide which provides up to date information on<br />

internship numbers for the upcoming year. Give it read for a sneak peek of whats instore<br />

for you!<br />

AMSA Journal of Global Health (AJGH) is our unique bi-annual Global Health Journal<br />

which publishes peer-reviewed articles on various global health topics.<br />

Frontier! Magazine is our bi-annual Rural Health magazine. Read for a variety of pieces<br />

on rural health issues and academics in addition to creative pieces.<br />

Panacea is AMSA’s student magazine which showcases a large range of creative and<br />

academic pieces from medical students around Australia.<br />

Embolus: our monthly newsletter for Advocacy related updates, callouts and more!<br />
