SOLUTION
United Way is implementing the Schools
as Community Hubs model, which makes
a school – a place that already acts as a
natural anchor for kids – the center of an
entire neighborhood. It transforms the way
we provide support for kids and deliver
services to neighborhoods simultaneously.
The model is being implemented at
Leverette, Pickett, and Robinson Elementary
Schools as well as Scott High School.
Navigator and the Better Business
OUTCOME
Lead partners have been selected and Hub Directors
have been hired for all of our Schools as Community
Hubs. Each school developed a Hub Team that reviewed
proposals, interviewed candidates, and made the final
decision. The Hub Teams were composed of principals,
teachers, parents, neighborhood stakeholders, and
United Way education volunteers. Leverette chose
the YMCA/JCC of Greater Toledo, and Scott chose
Lutheran Social Services. Pickett and Robinson both
chose The University of Toledo, Judith Herb College
