“My reasons for advocating <strong>and</strong> volunteering with <strong>United</strong><br />
<strong>Way</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Greater</strong> <strong>Toledo</strong> are deeply personal. I can recall<br />
times in my life when I did not feel like I had a voice or like<br />
my voice mattered. Thankfully, a mentor, teacher, pastor,<br />
or someone who was rooting for me always emerged to<br />
encourage me. It is my hope that in some way, whether<br />
great or small, I can be that voice <strong>of</strong> encouragement to<br />
someone else. I am also involved with <strong>United</strong> <strong>Way</strong>’s African<br />
American Initiative because it is a progressive-minded<br />
group <strong>of</strong> committed volunteers who focus on finding real<br />
solutions to the problems facing the African-American<br />
community in the areas <strong>of</strong> education, income, <strong>and</strong> health.”<br />
