ISSUE<br />
Many families in our community are walking<br />
a financial tightrope, <strong>and</strong> tax season is time<br />
for extra revenue. However, many families<br />
spend their hard-earned money to have their<br />
taxes prepared, <strong>and</strong> they are losing out on<br />
part <strong>of</strong> their returns. Alternatively, some<br />
families prepare their own taxes but don’t<br />
always receive all the credits they earned.<br />

DRIVING GENEROSITY<br />
Chrysler <strong>Toledo</strong> north Assembly Plant raised $131,256, up from $107,193 last year – a 22 percent<br />
increase. In addition, both TNAP <strong>and</strong> Chrysler Machining participated in a <strong>United</strong> <strong>Way</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Caring at<br />
the Friendly Center in October, <strong>and</strong> also held Thanksgiving food drives, book drives, <strong>and</strong> toy drives.<br />
SOLUTION<br />
The Free Tax Preparation Program, coordinated by <strong>United</strong><br />
<strong>Way</strong> 2-1-1, includes a coalition <strong>of</strong> partners dedicated to<br />
providing free tax preparation services by IRS-certified<br />
volunteers to those filing individually or a family filing<br />
jointly making less than $50,000. The program not only<br />
saves families money on a tax preparation services <strong>and</strong><br />
ensures they receive all the credits they are eligible<br />
for, but helps bring back more to the local economy.<br />

OUTCOME<br />
In the 2011 tax season, certified<br />
volunteer tax preparers helped<br />
2,691 local families by preparing<br />
their taxes for free, bringing<br />
back $3.4 million to the local<br />
economy in federal tax refunds.<br />
