Annually, United Way recognizes an individual
and an organization who have demonstrated a
high level of service, record of achievement, and
commitment to the people of the greater Toledo
community with the Spirit of Caring Award.

BEST BUY
Best Buy has supported United Way of Greater Toledo locally through workplace giving for more than 15 years – contributing over
$150,000 to the local community through the annual United Way campaign. The company is also committed to giving back to the
community through volunteering by matching employee volunteer hours with grant dollars to local organizations.
Most recently, Best Buy partnered with United Way to develop the Geek Bus. In our community conversations, residents spoke about a
lack of job training and a need for services to be brought to them. In response, United Way and Best Buy developed a six-week computertraining
course, which Best Buy brought directly to several low-income housing sites. The course taught basic computer skills, how to
create a résumé, interview skills, and more.
Best Buy’s commitment and generosity to the community, however, goes beyond their involvement with United Way. In the past, Best
Buy adopted Sherman Elementary School, donating more than $1,000 worth of school supplies to the students. At the grand opening
of Best Buy’s new store at Westfield Franklin Park, they awarded generous donations to Rogers High School, Family House, and Toledo
Seagate Food Bank. Additionally, when the tornadoes devastated Lake Township, Best Buy refurbished donated computers for Lake
High School students to have the necessary technology to resume classes at their temporary school.
Best Buy’s commitment to furthering education and opportunities for youth is evident through their innovative thinking, willingness to
partner, and their generosity in both money and time.
