Good start to the soccer season
In their firstouting of the season, Geraldines
grade 13/14 team played Waihi School
last Saturday morning. The 2-1 win to
Waihi was afair reflection of an even
game. Geraldine coach Jeremy Barnes
says, Our side is abit rusty at the start
of the season. there isasquad of 18
players to choose from, so giving everybody
game time is not easy.
In the afternoon, Geraldines division
two team faced anewly formed Temuka
team, about half of whom played for
Geraldine last season. Salvesh (Savvy)
Chandra had beenkeen to form aTemuka
team for some time, as many dairyworkers
live towards that end of the district.
The nil-all result reflected agoodspirited
but hard-fought game. Coach
Shaun Stack says, It was agreat spectacle,
avery even first half. In the second half,
Geraldine dug inand was determined
not to lose, defending doggedly and yet
creating afew chances.
Players of the day were Salvesh Chandra
and James Stack. HUGH MCCAFFERTY
