Benefits of aging
Many people think of growing older in a
negative light.
Although there are some side effects of
aging that one may wish to avoid, people
may find that the benefits of growing older
outweigh the negatives.
Seniors are a rapidly growing segment
of the population. With so many people living
longer, it’s time to celebrate the perks
of getting older rather than the drawbacks.
Here are some benefits to growing old.
•Higher self-esteem: The insecurities of
youth give way as one ages, and older people
have less negativity and higher selfesteem.
Qualities like self-control and
altruism can contribute to happiness.
•Financial perks: Seniors are entitled
to discounts on meals, museum entry fees,
movies, and other entertainment if they’re
willing to disclose their ages. Discounts are
available through an array of venues if one
speaks up. Seniors also can enjoy travel
perks, with slashed prices on resorts, plane
tickets and more.
•Reasoning and problem-solving skills:
Brain scans reveal that older adults are
more likely to use both hemispheres of
their brans simultaneously something
called bilateralization. This can sharpen
reasoning skills.
Growing older may involve gray hair or
wrinkling skin, but there are many positive
things associated with aging.
Hilltop History
& Heritage
This is the cover from the 1969
Columbus Jets Sketch Book which was
the media guide used for press, radio,
and television. The 38-page book contained
a history of the Columbus Jets
Baseball Club and the International
League, a list of trustees, officials and
other personnel associated with the
team, past attendance figures, history
and statistics regarding Jet Stadium, a
summary of the other International
League teams, and other facts and
schedules for the 1969 season. The
Columbus Jets played in Jet Stadium
on West Mound Street from 1955
through 1970. The stadium remained
idle for six years when the Jets moved
to Charleston, WV. It reopened after
being renovated in 1977 when the
Columbus Clippers minor league baseball
team came to Columbus. The facility
was renamed Cooper Stadium in
1984. When the downtown Huntington
Park opened in 2009, the Clippers
moved to the new facility. Cooper
Stadium has remained dormant since. If
