NT YOUTH WEEK 2022
Our very first NT Youth Week was a great success!
Participants, parents and facilitators gave so much positive feedback,
and I had a blast organising workshops, meeting our amazing
creative spouses and laughing with all who attended. It was so great
to see so many teens wanting to join in the fun. I get the feeling
they would love us to do this every week, or at least every holidays!

For the participants, there
was so much on offer
from photography to art,
career exploration to
driver safety, Zumba
Fusion to sound healing,
chocolate creating,
cooking and of course,
gaming - there was
something to suit every
interest.

It was such a pleasure to be able to offer these events to our Defence teens.
We recognise that there is very limited engagement for this age group, which
is a huge gap that we had hoped to fill with NT Youth Week, and I feel that
we achieved our goal to deliver a fun program. The feedback received from
our participants indicates there is a genuine need for more activities, so we
have listened! Please keep an eye open for future events on our social media.
If young people can be involved in various activities, even just for a day or
two, they can broaden their social connections, learn new skills and find
hobbies they enjoy. These activities help youth to look forward to something
different and it’s a step towards enjoying their posting to the Top End. We
are thinking about their needs, which is an important part of our community
focus.
Thank you to all amazing volunteers, facilitators, parents and participants who
assisted with our Youth Week event, especially NT Police Senior Sergeant
John Ginnane for the road safety activity, FSGT Mark Lawlor for volunteering
his time to the vehicle maintenance workshop and the Darwin Aviation
Museum for donating competition prizes.
We have some exciting things planned for the future, stay tuned!
