Act 1 • Scene 5

NURSE: I do not know.

JULIET: Go and find out his name.

(Nurse leaves.)

If he is married, the only wedding bed

I’ll have will be my grave!

(Nurse returns.)

NURSE: His name is Romeo. He’s a Montague,

The only son of your family’s great enemy.

JULIET: My only love comes from my only hate!

If I had only known! Now it is too late!

How could this have happened to me?

Why must I love my family’s enemy?

NURSE: What’s all this? What’s all this?

JULIET: It’s just a rhyme I learned tonight.

(A voice from another room calls, “Juliet.”)

NURSE: Come! Come! Let’s go to bed.

The guests are all gone.

(Juliet and Nurse exit.)
