Act 3 • Scene 1

TYBALT: What do you want with me?

MERCUTIO: Good king of cats, nothing but one

of your nine lives!

TYBALT (drawing his sword): I am ready for you!

ROMEO: Gentle Mercutio, put your sword away.

MERCUTIO: Come, sir, your move.

ROMEO: Stop! Remember what the Prince said

about fighting on the streets of Verona!

Stop, Tybalt! Please, good Mercutio!

(As Mercutio and Tybalt fight, Romeo steps between them.

Tybalt, shielded by Romeo, thrusts his sword into Mercutio’s

body. Then Tybalt runs away with his friends.)
