Seasonal
changes
Summer is the time to think of Fall – when colorists add
a little spice to their palettes with richer tones and golden
hues. Top artists offer their autumnal design guidance.
There’s no debate - fall is a favorite season for just about everyone. For a hair colorist, it’s the time to get
creative with contrast, warmth and tasteful drama. “By using dimensional color placement to add depth
and shadows, along with lightening and darkening certain areas of the hair with complimentary tones,
hair can showcase the beauty of that time of year,” says Paul Dobbert, Director of Education for Keratin
Complex. “Hair color that changes with the season can be impactful.” Goldwell’s Rebecca Hiele believes
it’s also about regaining what has been lost after a summer of hot sun and water stress. “From pool, to
beach or lake and travel with different water exposure, changes in hair tonality are common. Moving
into fall doesn’t necessarily mean going darker but the hair needs tone, shadow and shine for sure.”
Layering takes on a whole new meaning this autumn. “It’s the time to layer up with your favorite scarf
or jacket,” Eufora National Trainer, Lisa Vann says. “Lets not forget about hair. Layer on a gloss or
glaze to your client’s current color to either cool down or shine up your blondes to a fun winter white
or warm up those brunettes with a shimmery golden hue.” Wella Professionals Brand Ambassador
Briana Cisneros likes to take advantage of the prelightened hair from sun exposure and keeps color
fun in the fall. “Adding warmth is a great way to bring life and color back into the hair. Golds, coppers,
