Cover Story
Absolutely delish! Candy curls are the look of the
summer! Combine bubblegum pink, cool gold
accents, and bouncy beautiful curls, and you’re ready
for a summer full of happiness and fun.
8 photoshoot

Bubblegum pink is the Goldwell 2022 Color of the Year, which walks the line between vibrant, hot pink
and classic pastel. And that is precisely what International Goldwell Artist Agnes Westerman had in mind
when she created the playful Candy Curl look on the cover. “The color pink is everywhere now in fashion,
beauty, and hair,” says Westerman. “Bubblegum pink has an optimistic feel, and we see that as the key
trend for this year.” The Colorance in-salon portfolio allows stylists to customize color services to deliver
exceptional #colorforeveryone on all hair types, textures, and tones. Colorance by Goldwell can actually
repair hair’s structure as it colors, so colored hair is shiny, vibrant, and healthy looking.
Agnes’ technique starts with pre-lightening and silverizing to create the correct starting canvas. She then
colors the stretched regrowth and nape area, alternating bubblegum pink and two shades of blonde in
triangular panels.
Candy Curl Service
In this technique, long panels of pastel colors
were used to emphasize the curls.
Professional colorists worldwide challenge themselves to
study color theory and geometries for original designs.
Gary Kelly and Marie Scarano
Hairdressers and colorists glean their inspiration from nature, architecture, and more to create original cut’n’color
combinations that can range anywhere from subtle to over-the-top. They may not be for everyone, but there are some
individuals eager to push their own limits, either for a one-off special occasion or for a new lease on life.
CANDY GIRL
“I absolutely love this image and I had so much fun creating it. Color is a chance to express yourself and make statement and I wanted to do just that. We had an
overall candy style theme for this shoot, which gave me the perfect opportunity to have some fun. I wanted to play with multiple colors and sharp lines to really
make the colors pop. My aim was to create a bold image that was all about the hair and for me, the contrasting colors combined with the precision cut is the perfect
example of that!” Chelsea Bate (UK)
BI-LEVEL BOLD
Color blocking is the color application technique of the moment. I love this image from our POP collection so much because of its bright bold placements.
There is no denying that each color has its place and even though it’s such a contrasting look, the color block placement just makes it work. This particular
image was inspired by the classic cuts of the sixties and primary colours of the Bauhaus in addition to the contrast of Warhol but all with a modern twist.
The result is this bi-level look with modern texture and dramatic color blocking. Brian Leo McCallum (UK)
TIE DYE EFFECT
“Over the past few years, we have included color blocking and strong color panels within our color
collections. This year, we wanted to be even more innovative with our color placement and decided to
use the Batik Color Technique, whereby we bleached random areas of the hair to lift the hair and then
applied color on these areas to create a tie dye hair effect. For this look we paired an ice-white blonde
with a canary yellow hue to really show off the yellow in the hair and create a statement contrast. Paired
with a short-textured crop, I love the quirkiness of this look and how the unique color placement
enhances the cut and draws your eyes in.” Dylan Brittain (UK)
Hair: Dylan Brittain, Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International
SEVENTIES THROWBACK
“Hair is a fascinating, transient canvas and color is our paint to add beautiful, intricate details that
capture attention. I love the dark silhouette of taupe that sits behind a fresh, light tone of mint. I also
love the contrasting stripes of color, they are totally having a moment and look so fresh with the
throwback seventies blow out. Add to that the texture and shape and it’s the perfect style for summer.”
VIBRANT CONTRASTS
I wanted this Newance by Topchic collection to be different from the traditional collections, where
colors used were strong, vibrant, and contrasting. This was Japanese-inspired. The goal was to design
looks with nuances between contrasting and natural hues, using coloring techniques to create movement
and texture. Out of the 7 looks I created, Sheryl's look has the most obvious lighter block colouration
that juxtaposes the total hair design. Yet it is unassuming and blends with the base color well. The panel
slices strategically placed inside the base color area made it pop out dimensionally, creating a soft texture
to complement the lighter block color. The result is cute and somehow brought out the nuance more
than I expected. Justin Javier Tan (Singapore)
GEN Z APPEAL
We wanted to create hair looks that speak to the next generation of ghd customers, while using
techniques that have universal appeal. These styles were made to be showcased on social media; the
pastel tones, embellished details and y2k inspirations all have a Gen Z feel, but are built around
techniques and tools that everyone will love. Amy Sontae, ghd global Education Creative Manager (UK)
BLENDED CONTRASTS
This is a simple one-length bob shape but is made eye catching by adding contrasting color. Working with a violet blonde tone on the
back, with a soft muted copper tone through the front makes the whole style pop. Lines with soft, blended themes and movement are
combined with bold styling and couture robes. Robert Kirby (UK)
COLOR-WHEEL COMPLEMENTS
We are loving this contemporary yet timeless look. What do we like most? The textured, disconnected and longish pixie with a
casually sideswept fringe? Or maybe the tousled texture that perfectly exalts the peachy-blond nuances? Or maybe the contrasting
steel blue strands? Maybe even the simple fact that all these come together to create perfection.
I’m gazing at an opal shimmering through a calm pool of water.” Ilona Garson (USA)
Seasonal
changes
Summer is the time to think of Fall – when colorists add
a little spice to their palettes with richer tones and golden
hues. Top artists offer their autumnal design guidance.
There’s no debate - fall is a favorite season for just about everyone. For a hair colorist, it’s the time to get
creative with contrast, warmth and tasteful drama. “By using dimensional color placement to add depth
and shadows, along with lightening and darkening certain areas of the hair with complimentary tones,
hair can showcase the beauty of that time of year,” says Paul Dobbert, Director of Education for Keratin
Complex. “Hair color that changes with the season can be impactful.” Goldwell’s Rebecca Hiele believes
it’s also about regaining what has been lost after a summer of hot sun and water stress. “From pool, to
beach or lake and travel with different water exposure, changes in hair tonality are common. Moving
into fall doesn’t necessarily mean going darker but the hair needs tone, shadow and shine for sure.”
Layering takes on a whole new meaning this autumn. “It’s the time to layer up with your favorite scarf
or jacket,” Eufora National Trainer, Lisa Vann says. “Lets not forget about hair. Layer on a gloss or
glaze to your client’s current color to either cool down or shine up your blondes to a fun winter white
or warm up those brunettes with a shimmery golden hue.” Wella Professionals Brand Ambassador
Briana Cisneros likes to take advantage of the prelightened hair from sun exposure and keeps color
fun in the fall. “Adding warmth is a great way to bring life and color back into the hair. Golds, coppers,
Greg Gilmore, Moroccanoil
Celebrity Colorist likes to
incorporate ash and violet
into his autumn shades.
“Adding cool tones will give it
that deeper shift that feels
more appropriate or the fall
and winter,” he says.
Added depth & dimension
Many colorists find that hair color benefits from
some punch and formula tweakings after summer
sun exposure. Paul Mitchell Guest Artist Erica
Keelen says, “I always like to add more gold tones
and depth to the hair because after summer the
hair trends to look dull.” Monae Everett, Biolage
Ambassador and Celebrity Stylist, agrees and says
that the fall is the right season to take advantage of
sun lightened hair and introduce your clients to the
red formula you’ve been tinkering with in the color
room. “This is perfect for previously lightened
hair or for strawberry blondes who are ready to go
all the way.”

Hair: Jack Howard for Denman Brushes
Keratin Complex
Hair: Eva Scrivo
Dramatic hair color is the name of the game for fall 2022.
Paul Dobbert, Keratin Complex Director of Education, says
that transitioning hair color to match the season “often involves
shades that mirror the changing leaves from green to golden,
copper, and red tones.” Jack Howard, a top colorist and ambassador
for Denman and L’Oreal Professionnel, goes for warmth while
avoiding brass, striving to add soft wheat highlights “after the
summer madness of beaches and pools.” Biolage artist Sunnie
Brook takes a gentle approach to transitioning color. “I try to keep
the lighter flecks of color clients may have picked up in the summer
by foiling with a deep treatment followed by a semi-permanent in
a rich chocolate or smokey brown all over to bring back the rich
shine and radiance of their color with dimension while doing
the least damage.”

Goldwell’s Rebecca Hiele
uses a soft color meld of
two formulas to soften,
tone and take overworked
summer hair into fall
perfection.
Hair: George Papanikolas
reds and in some cases, pink!" Matrix Brand Ambassador, George Papanikolas, takes a conservative approach on
his Los Angeles based clientele. “The easiest way to transition from bleached out summer lightness to a beautiful fall tone
is with a sheer gloss,” he says. Papanikolas uses Matrix ColorSync in combination with clear formula to give the hair
a sheer pastel finish that adds shine while maintaining the condition of the hair. New York based colorist and balayage
expert Eva Scrivo of Eva Scrivo Salons says that while hair typically lightens in the summer, clients tend to get a darker
complexion due to outdoor activity, “so more color in the face and less in the hair. My goal is to bring back pigment
in the hair by incorporating lowlights with a warmer base through a lower level developer on the highlights by using
just 10 or 20 volume.” Scrivo believes that incorporating a gloss or glaze into the service is the perfect way to spruce up
any shade, and a great addition to post-summer color. “A warm glaze also helps remove the look of faded ends and
extends the length of the color design.” For Kien Hoang, Oribe Principal Educator of Content & Training, it’s all about
individuality, regardless of the season. “There is no one-size-fits-all formula to transition from summer to fall as it
depends on skin tone and how dark you want your client to go. I like to fill with a lot of gold or copper pigments and
overlay with a natural or desired level of darkness. Overall, you should keep the color warm and neutral so it looks as
natural as possible.” Jack Howard adds that the goal, in general, is to enhance, subdue or neutralize. “And, as always,
treat each client as unique as her fingerprints.”
COLOUR
SYMPHONY

Hair Spectrum
A spectrum is the ultimate colour palette. It incorporates a rainbow of infinite
opportunities that can convey the subtle nuances of every feeling, sensation and
emotion - from the heat of deep sultry reds through to the frosted cool of ice blue.
The Hair Spectrum is equally as vast. The skills of the colour artist combined with
extraordinary advances in product research and development mean that no shade is
ever off-limits. The best news of all is that salon clients are embracing new hair colour
looks in combinations which, not so long ago would have been inconceivable! So get
spectrum-inspired; you might just surprise yourself!
Lassen Sie sich also spektral

Color Plus!
Color services are profitable for salons. So leading brands
continue renewing and improving products and
techniques to keep your clients coming back for more.
Wella Professionals
Whatever your speciality may be – whether cutting, curls, styling, or something else – hair color services
can about on average to about 23% of your salon's revenue. This can be even higher if you upsell
coloring with special techniques like balayage and foilayage or add-on care and maintenance services.
And if you have taken the time to learn and perfect a color service that is particularly in vogue (like
balayage, baby lights, creative color, ombre, sombre, etc.), you should feel confident enought to charge a
little more for that than your other color services. Depending on your special technique
and your salon's clientele, you may be able to charge between 10-25% more than a standard service.
After all, time is money, and you have spent both in education and experience to offer nothing but
professional excellence.
Wella Professionals
Wella Professionals Shinefinity This long-lasting color glaze offers zero lift, zero damage and lasts up to 6
weeks! The 2 salon services and 2 techniques to optimize current services result in silky and healthy-looking shine. This new
translucent demi-permanent hair color offers 32 shades and 2 activators. Moreover, the bottle-consistency makes for faster
services while the brush & bowl guarantee precise application. Salons can drive traffic with a product that allows multiple
applications through time and they can boost their bottom line by trading up core users to the next generation of glossing.
IGK Color For those who can’t get to an IGK salon and already color their hair, IGK now offers at-home color kits to
help reinvent the color experience from the comfort of your own home. The collection debuts with 25 signature shades, all
inspired by IGK Colorists and are clinically proven to leave hair 15x shinier*, with 40% reduced breakage** and 88% softer
and smoother strands**. Formulated for all hair types and textures, each signature shade delivers vibrant, dimensional color
and maximum grey coverage. *based on the results achieved on shade 1B: results may vary per shade; results compared to
untreated control **compared to untreated control.
Don't hesitate to invest in quality products. And there is more to a service than just the color itself. There are capes,
brushes, lighteners, and even follow-up care and maintenance treatments. This is one area where you can also bank on
boosting your retail skills and profits. After making an investment in your professional services, your clients will want to
keep their new look salon-fresh for weeks at home.
Many salons are investing in smart machines like the LG CHI Color Master Factory or Vish (take a look at our article on
environmental sustainability in this issue). These technologies offer advantages on several different levels. First of all they
LG CHI COLOR MASTER FACTORY The LG CHI Color Master Factory by Farouk Systems, Inc. is a
color customization system designed to take the salon hair coloring process into the digital age. Eight professional colorists
travelled to the Farouk Systems, Inc. headquarters to try and talk about their experience creating their own custom color
using LG CHI Color Master Factory. The AI-technology of this digital color lab allowed them to formulate, dispense and
track color usage down to the exact ounce with a touch of a button. The LG CHI Master Color Factory also helps eliminate
waste in the salon. Millions of color tubes are disposed in landfills, but the LG CHI Master Color Factory solves this by
dispensing color from recyclable canisters that help save the planet.

Oribe
high contrast blonding results in less time than traditional balayage with
the 4D Foilayage technique, achieved in 4 easy steps! This new technique
is designed to help stylists maximize time and minimize hair damage,
with up to 92% less breakage. The Matrix Light Master Pre-Bonded
Lightener, SoColor Sync Pre-Bonded Acidic and Alkaline Toners provide
the versatility of saturated or sheer color for an all-around perfect
protected finish.
Denman
Oribe Bright Blonde This collection caters to the unique
needs of blonde hair, with products specially designed to maintain color
vibrancy and reveal hair’s most radiant, healthy-looking blonde. The
brightening natural highlights. The Bright Blonde Essential Priming
Serum replenishes essential moisture and eliminates brassiness using
violet and pearlized pigments. Instead, the Sun Lightening Mist is a
modern way to create controlled highlights through heat from the sun or
a hair dryer.
Denman Brushes Designed by international colour expert
Jack Howard, the new range of Precision Colouring tools by Denman
have been created to enhance and further the work of the serious colour
technician.The small brush is used for detailing and micro-Balayage;
the medium brush for classic Balayage, re-touching and highlights; the
large brush for panel colouring, pasting and glazing. The mixing brush
must be used exclusively for mixing and preparing colour - NOT FOR
APPLICATION! The smooth side of the Balayage Board is a palette
for colour blending while the textured side is designed to securely hold
sections of hair for detail colouring.
educe waste and makes it easier to manage color inventories at the back bar. It also facilitates keeping track of formulas
for each client. In this way clients can rely on getting the same color time and time again. But it can also help in cases
where clients have decided to transition between colors subtly from one season to the next or venture into bolder
territory. But perhaps the single most important thing a colorist can do is invest in education to learn about the latest
developments in both products and techniques. After all, practice makes perfect!
Green
is Good...
... and not only for the environment, but for your salon
business, too! Some of these ideas for building more
sustainable salon practices can also help save money.
86 sustainability
Ecological and environmental issues are old news but always news-worthy as temperatures rise
globally. Dooms Day prophets continue preaching about how the time to act is now if we want to
leave a livable planet for future generations. As we say, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of
the problem. And while we can raise our own awareness and take steps as individuals to save on
water, reduce waste, and recycle, it is also important for industries and businesses to develop more
sustainable production systems, install renewable energy plants to reduce their carbon footprint,
focus on natural and botanical products where possible, switch to recycled and recyclable materials
for packaging, and even strive to develop products using cruelty-free methods wherever possible.
Here is a quick round-up of potential calls-to-action that can help you and your salon be part of the
solution, all while boosting your business and saving money!
For example, according to a recent Modern Salon Research Study, 88 percent of beauty professionals
think it’s important to work in a green and sustainable salon or barbershop. Moreover, 60 percent of
salon guests said they would consider changing salons if they knew all the waste from their visit
would be recovered. This is where Green Circle Salons fits in perfectly, as they empower salons to
recover up to 95% of their beauty waste. That includes previously unrecoverable materials and
hard-to-recycle items like hair clippings, foils, excess hair color, aerosol cans, and color tubes.

Green
Products
ORIBE HAIR CARE
Oribe believes in big hair — and a small
carbon footprint. With the introduction
of new refill pouches for our most popular
liter-size shampoos, conditioners and our
luxurious hand wash, Oribe joins its design
heritage with a commitment to sustainable
packaging. The new liter refill pouches use
71% less single-use plastic than the largeformat
liter bottles — encouraging reuse
of our beautiful liter bottles, too covetable
to dispose — reduced carbon emissions in
transport due to the compact format of the
pouches and localized manufacturing, and
reduce material into the waste stream.
CHI BOND + LIGHTENING
SYSTEM
CHI BOND+ Lightening System is infused with Hemp
Oil and Aloe Vera to help strengthen the hair and
protect the scalp while lifting up to 9+ levels. The
low pH system with natural bond builders protects
and rebuilds keratin bonds, reducing damage to the
hair while adding protection for the scalp during
color and lightening services. Hemp is high in fatty
acids, proteins, vitamins and other nutrients to keep
the hair strong and nourished while Aloe Vera’s
conditioning and soothing properties keep hair and
scalp moisturized and protected.
R+Co Bleu
This eco-conscious line combines
modernity and style with breakthrough
innovations in formulation, sustainability
and iconic packaging design. The resulting
high-performance essentials give clients
the ability to confidently create fashionforward
signature styles with everyday
ease.R+Co BLEU features 100% recyclable
packaging. Bottles and jars are made of
100% post-consumer recycled material,
which use 88% less energy to produce,
further lowering the carbon footprint.
Tubes are constructed from bioresin
sugarcane plastic, which has been shown to
biodegrade in 180 days in soil and 60 days
in compost. Canisters are crafted from
100% aluminum. A recyclable resource,
75% of the aluminum ever produced in the
United States is still in use today.

Green
Salons
GREEN CIRCLE
SALONS
This beauty waste recovery service
recycles and repurposes over 1 million
pounds of beauty waste each year
and helps the salon industry reduce
its environmental footprint. Now
they also offer the first industry-wide
Carbon-Neutral Salon Certification
in North America to offset all the
carbon created by a salon, creating
true carbon neutrality. Now certified
Green Circle Salons members can
recover their beauty waste and offset
the emissions they currently cannot
avoid generating in their day-to-day
operations.
88 sustainability
Yet another option is to cut overhead costs, especially in color services. Here Vish can ensure greater
efficiency in color departments, with the app that helps stylists refine their formulas so only the
amounts needed for each client are dispensed. This can lead to huge savings on color costs and the
amount of chemicals habitually being washed down the basin by the beauty industry. A win for the
salon and a win for the environment. Another way to save water and prevent further pollution?
Scrummi disposable towels have saved more than 20 million gallons of chemically contaminated
water in the past year while avoiding the release of 6 million kilograms of CO² into the atmosphere.
The cost of water and energy used in laundering a single cotton towel is 1.5 times the cost of
producing a Scrummi towel, which is the only microfiber towel in the world certified* as
compostable. Scrummi also uses a fraction of the water – it takes just 35ml of water to create a
Scrummi towel and 96% of that water is recycled after microbiological filtration. And obviously
packaging plays a big role. "At Oribe, we know everything matters and are always looking for new
ways to make our packaging more environmentally friendly, from using Forest Stewardship Councilapproved
cardboard for our outer cartons, to our new, recyclable glass perfume bottles,” says Jennifer
Smith, VP of Packaging for Oribe Hair Care. And they are not alone. Other brands are following suit.
So consider optimising your salon sustainability. The planet - and your clients - will thank you!

LUMOS NOX SALON
"Over the last two years we have had to buy so many single use items between
gloves, masks, plastic wrap, cups etc. that we were concerned about being
able to up our sustainability," says Lumos Nox Salon onwer Twylla Jane,
REDKEN Artist. "We joined Green Circle Salons and were able to recycle up
to 95% of our waste in conjunction with our local recycling municipality. We
can even recycle excess haircolor left behind in bowls and bottles instead of
flushing it into our sewer systems. Green circle recycles metals (foils, color
tubes, hairspray cans etc) as well as PPE, hair and more! A small fee is added
to our guest’s charge to cover the cost of Green Circle and any leftover funds
help us purchase sustainable items and equipment for the salon such as lights
and appliances. What do they do with all the recycled items? They make
bike frames, hair booms, insulation and they even sent us new recycling bins
made from hair! They’re so cool."
SCRUMMI WATER SAVIOURS
Salons using Scrummi disposable towels have
saved more than 20 million gallons of chemically
contaminated water in the past year while avoiding
the release of 6 million kilograms of CO² into the
atmosphere. At the same time, they have stopped
millions of microplastic fragments from being
flushed into rivers and oceans. All by ending the
tedious process of in-salon laundering. The stats
show that salons that switch from traditional cotton
towels (which are often reinforced with plastic
to make them last longer and resist staining) to
Scrummi also save thousands of dollars previously
wasted on laundry.
VISH WASTE
WARRIORS
Two Ohio salons dominate the list of top
Vish Waste Warriors, according to the team
behind the color management app. Indeed,
Vish named the best in the industry for
boosting color profits and protecting the
planet by ending color waste. Rêvé Salon
& Spa in Sylvania, Toledo, slashed color
costs by $400 a week, making it the top
Salon Waste Warrior, with three of its team
in the top five. But Karen Welch, owner of
SoZo HAIR by Bajon Salon & Spa in West
Chester, Cincinnati, clinched the top spot
for personally cutting her color waste by
half and bringing the average amount she
spends on color per service to the lowest in
North America. Her efficiency impacted
the whole salon!

Premiere
Orlando!
Rumor had it that shows were over. Then Premiere Orlando
Florida 2022 was a booming success. Estetica was there
to see that what was going on was wonderful - and it was!
It was the perfect way to start a return to show season.
Maggie Mulhern
More than 60,000 salon professionals attended Premiere Orlando which was held this past June 4 -6. Parking lots were
sold out at the Orange County Convention Center and hotels were bursting at the seams. There was non-stop
education, product knowledge sharing and networking. Estetica caught up with one attendee who was making her 4th
trip to her car to drop off her purchases. It was only 11 am!
One of the hottest “booths” was right in the heart of the show at Farouk Systems. Thousands of attendees were there to
watch the absolutely dazzling stage presentations and learn more about CHI, Biosilk and Beyond Glow Skincare. Salon
pros at CHI Footwear were were lined up just to learn that many sizes were already sold out by noon on the first day.
Scott Hagstrom, Farouk Systems President of Retail Sales, explained how the shoe is designed specifically for the salon
professional who is on his or her feet all day. “There’s nothing like this shoe” he said to the crowd that had gathered.
Moroccanoil had a simply gorgeous stage show with demonstrations on cutting, styling and color enhancement. Over
at Keratin Complex, style experts crowded the booth to learn about the new KCTexture Curl Enhancing Treatment and
EBO Treatment. BabylissPRO was the place to go to learn more about the latest and hottest barbering tools. Attendees
were lined up for their education, but it was the Custom FX that had everyone buzzing. Another sell-out.
It was the feeling of community and life returning to “normal” that made this show so successful. As people exited
on the last day, no one had a better wrap up line than Dr Farouk Shami, Founder and Chairman of Farouk Systems, Inc.
“There is no better feeling than connecting with professionals about our passion for haircare.”
“Premiere Orlando was an exceptional event for BabyLissPro.,” observed Alan Stockman, SVP,
General Supervisor at Babyliss, Conair Professional . “We designed our space with an eye toward
connecting with customers, driving engagement, educating and entertaining. People haven't been
together in a substantive way in more than two years – BabylissPro wanted to make sure we
provided a great space to get back together and I believe we did .”
Luis Alvarez, Matrix, shared
“
The professional salon experience has always been social in nature. Through good and bad times
our creative process has always been collaborative at its core. That’s because hair artists seldom
create in isolation and our community thrives best when united as one. It was encouraging to
experience first-hand the appetite for hair artists to attend industry gatherings is still alive and well. ”
Fresha:
Now and into the Future
ESTETICA HAS INTERVIEWED FRESHA
FOUNDER AND CEO, WILLIAM ZEQIRI,
AND CO-FOUNDER AND CHIEF OF
PRODUCT, NICK MILLER, TO DISCOVER
MORE ABOUT THE #1 BOOKING
SOFTWARE THAT IS TAKING OUR
INDUSTRY BY STORM.
What is Fresha? Please give our readers a brief overview.
Founder and CEO, WILLIAM ZEQIRI: “Fresha is the world's #1 and only subscriptionfree
booking software for beauty and wellness, trusted by millions worldwide. Top-rated
independently by Capterra, our advanced suite of tools gives businesses unmissable
opportunities to attract, convert and retain your clients.”
Co-Founder and Chief of Product, NICK MILLER: “Fresha helps over 320,000 businesses
and professionals put their salons, barbershops and spas in the spotlight. More than 500
million appointments are booked through Fresha every year, in over 120 countries.”
What’s your winning formula?
WILLIAM: Fresha’s all-in-one platform combines intuitive salon management, payment
processing and a client marketplace that replaces any collection of standalone tools.
Our subscription-free pricing model has no contract - you only pay for what you use.
NICK: We know how hard it is to own a business, and we think managing it shouldn’t be. Our
clean and simple user experience means anyone can use it, and your clients will love it too.
How does your booking software help businesses get new customers?
WILLIAM: Businesses using our marketplace app gain 26% more clients on average.
With Fresha, your business is ranked higher on Google Search and Maps, offering
people a chance to book directly from the page. You can also add Book Now buttons on
your Instagram and Facebook pages for seamless booking.
NICK: Low occupancy rates are a key challenge in the industry, but Fresha’s smart tech
can increase client retention by 12%. We know 41% of online bookings are made
outside business hours, as staying open online 24/7 gives clients the flexibility to book at
their convenience.
Tell us more about Fresha's features helping businesses with managing and
Fresha’s Headquarters in Central London.
marketing their salons.
WILLIAM: Our partners get an incredible 392% return on investment when using our
marketing campaigns. You can set up automated birthday offers and messages designed
and CEO, WILLIAM ZEQIRI (right).
to turn newcomers into regulars and win back disengaged clients. When you share an offer to a targeted group, our blast
messaging options quickly fill in any gaps in your calendar.
NICK: And whether you’re tracking sales or monitoring your stock levels, Fresha’s live reports will help you understand
how well your business and team are performing. With all this info at your fingertips, we’ll help you achieve your goals!
How do the optional paid features work?
NICK: Most features on Fresha are 100% free to use for everyone, with no monthly subscription. In November 2021, we decided
to no longer apply a fee for returning clients from the marketplace, or for any bookings via social pages or Google. We only
charge our partners in three instances: a one-off fee for new clients we bring you through the marketplace, our competitive
payment processing fees and blast email and text fees. These features are completely optional and you can opt-out any time.
What are the benefits of Fresha’s integrated payment features?
NICK: We offer a brilliant payment experience which combines cashless in-app payment options with financial protection
by securely capturing client card details on file. Our partners enjoy 89% fewer no-shows this way. Many payment systems
have hidden monthly rental costs. At Fresha, we’ve kept things simple and only charge a small fee per transaction.
WILLIAM: Not only can you save money, but you can also generate extra income through cancellation fees and online tips.
By managing your transactions alongside your calendar, you’ll reduce your admin and spend more time focusing on what
matters – your clients.
Explain how your newly introduced deposit feature is proving to be so important for salons.
NICK: Businesses can collect pre-paid deposits to avoid no-shows and late cancellations. This feature adds an extra layer of
security to online bookings, as clients won’t be able to book unless a payment is made first. Fresha deposits are fully customisable
and you are in full control. If you only want to charge a deposit for certain services, or only for first-time clients, you can.
WILLIAM: Fresha releases deposit funds to your bank straight away. Getting a part payment before the appointment increases
your cash flow, and when clients pay a deposit, our research shows they spend 20% more on the day.
How do you sell products with the Fresha Store?
NICK: You can boost your revenue by creating your own professionally designed shop to sell your products online in
minutes. We’ve made that process super simple so you can take orders online and manage your inventory in one place.
What do you have in store for the rest of 2022?
NICK: We’ve released over 45 updates to our software in the last two months alone, including Google calendar syncing and
replying to client reviews to build loyalty. We’re only just getting started.
WILLIAM: As for what’s next, expect more payment and deposit options, customisable promotions and a state-of-the-art
staff roster, plus some really exciting stuff we can’t mention yet – you’ll just have to wait and see!
Shaping the World of Beauty and
Wellness Businesses
M
onika Serafim
specialises in high-tech,
high-value beauty
treatments including
laser hair removal,
microdermabrasion
facials and nail care. As
an expert cosmetologist and owner
at House of Gloss, London, she
makes every client “feel like they’re
visiting an old friend”.
Located in fashionable Fulham,
House of Gloss puts the customer
experience at the heart of every
service. Alongside its state-of-theart
aesthetic equipment, central to
delivering what her clients want,
Fresha plays a key role in Monika’s
business. “We are fully booked two
weeks ahead and most of it is
thanks to Fresha.”
A beautiful journey
After a decade specialising in
aesthetics and laser treatments,
Monika took the brave decision to
open her own business during the
pandemic. A crucial step on her
journey was to use Fresha’s business
software to help her grow House of
Gloss. “Fresha plays a massive part in
managing my business because I am
running the whole show. As a
business owner, it has made my life
so much easier – I absolutely love it!”
Transforming business with
memberships and deposits
Before using Fresha, Monika
experienced high numbers of
no-shows and late cancellations. She
now relies on Fresha’s deposits and
memberships to increase client
loyalty and protect bookings. “Before
using Fresha, up to 80% of
treatments that were not paid
upfront resulted in a no-show. This
was very bad for our business. Now,
with Fresha’s deposit feature, I have
virtually zero no-shows.”
Many of Monika’s treatments, such
as laser hair removal, require clients
to book a minimum number of
sessions. Fresha has allowed Monika
and the team at House of Gloss to
“sell a membership and automatically
see how many times clients have
been in, which is very useful.”
Fresha – the #1 booking software,
totally subscription-free
Now, as a fully booked thriving
business, Monika is using Fresha with
confidence. And unlike her
experiences with other booking
software, Fresha offers her invaluable
support. “One of the reasons I’m with
Fresha is the incredible customer
service. Fresha is not just software,
there are people behind it, and I think
that’s really important,” Monika says.
House of Gloss benefits from Fresha’s
integrated payment methods to
process payments seamlessly. Monika
also uses the full range of automated
messaging features to remind clients
about their appointments, reward
regulars, send birthday gifts and offer
promotions through email and text
marketing tools. “I can spend less
than £20 on a blast marketing
campaign that will generate £400-
£500 worth of bookings; this is very
effective for driving my business
forward.”
Most importantly, House of Gloss’
clients enjoy using Fresha to book
and manage appointments. Monika
says: “They all find it helpful, simple
and very clear. Even when a client
cancels, there’s no issue or
awkwardness. I’ve been raving about
Fresha and I 100% recommend it to
other salons.”
To celebrate Oribe
Canales’ legacy and
over-the-top glamour,
Oribe is launching a
limited-edition release
of its best-selling Dry
Texturizing Spray.
ne of the most sought-after
celebrity hairstylists in the
world, Oribe Canales, made
his name creating the big,
sexy, glamorous hair that
became synonymous with the
90s supermodel and beyond.
Oribe’s iconic looks lit up the
runways, red carpets, and pages of
every major designer and magazine
during his decades-long career.
In 2008, Oribe translated his
legendary love of glamour and his
deep understanding of the craft of
hairdressing into developing a
collection of products he always
envisioned: a line grounded in
traditional hairstyling using
Obsessed
with glamour
forward-thinking technology,
innovative ingredients, and a
signature fragrance — known as
the brand’s beloved Côte d’Azur scent,
which runs throughout the entire line.
The result was a range of luxury
hair care focused on the needs of
the hair obsessed.
“We began this line based on the
idea that everything matters, from
the design to the fragrance to the
packaging,” says Daniel Kaner,
Oribe President and Co-Founder.
“Oribe Canales’ one non-negotiable
was that each product had to
outperform even his own high
expectations.”
Oribe Canales was instrumental
in the creation of Dry Texturizing
Spray, which launched in 2010.
The renowned editorial stylist and
salon owner designed it as his
dream alternative to dry shampoo.
As a celebrated VIP hairstylist, Oribe Canales’ iconic looks often lit up the runways, red carpets, and pages of every major
designer and magazine during his decades-long career. His larger-than-life persona reflected more than his creativity
behind the chair and the iconic looks. Oribe’s concept of luxury hair care went well beyond high-performing products and
a signature scent. Today the brand represents a lifestlye.
He wanted a versatile styling
product that not only absorbed oil
and product in the hair, but also

“Oribe’s Dry
Texturizing
Spray – often
imitated but never
duplicated – is
still a best seller”
“He was glamorous and a true artist, with an intense personal style that I think of as
‘rough luxury’ — think Savile Row suits with full sleeve tattoos,” says Kaner.
“We’re excited to honor Oribe through this limited-edition design.”
created sexy texture, volume
and shine while leaving behind
an unforgettable fragrance.
There was nothing like it on the
market at the time, and the
introduction of Dry Texturizing
Spray launched an entirely new
category of styling products.
It quickly became a cult favorite
in haircare — both among top
hairstylists and beauty-obsessed
consumers — that has often been
imitated but never duplicated.
It has been one of the brand’s most
popular products since its 2010 debut.
Now, to celebrate Oribe Canales’
legacy and over-the-top glamour,
Oribe is launching a limitededition
release of its best-selling
Dry Texturizing Spray. The playful
retro-modern packaging, created in
collaboration with New York-based
painter and Oribe Canales’ close
friend Alvaro, is a love letter to the
brand’s heritage. This design was
originally commissioned by Oribe
Canales for his original line of
products in the 1990’s.
The artwork features a colorful
illustration of Oribe Canales,
known as the “muscle man”, which
draws inspiration from his love
of 50’s rock ‘n’ roll, Pop Art and
American pinup-girl style that also
speaks to the brand’s roots and its
dedication to the art of hairdressing.
The cheeky drawing also
encapsulates his iconic and
ever-growing sleeve of tattoos,
including an image of the King
of Pop, the U.S. flag, and a Japanese
koi fish. In a nod to his hairdressing
artistry, Oribe is depicted holding
a styling comb.
“He was glamorous and a true artist,
with an intense personal style that
I think of as ‘rough luxury’ — think
Savile Row suits with full sleeve
tattoos,” says Kaner. “We’re excited
to honor Oribe through this limitededition
design.”
The limited-edition Dry Texturizing
Spray will be available for purchase
on Oribe.com and at Oribe salons
and retailers nationwide beginning
