Maher Naji is a 

Palestinian painter, 

based in Gaza. 

Maher's family was 

forced to flee from 

Northern Sawafer Village prior to 

his birth, and he was born in 1963 

in Jabaliya Refugee Camp in Gaza, 

where he finished his primary and 

secondary education. 

He left for Russia in 1983 to 

join the Baron Stieglitz Art 

Academy in St. Petersburg 

and returned to Gaza in 

1994 after receiving 

his PhD in Arabian 

Architecture. During 

his stay in Russia, 

he participated 

in numerous 

exhibitions and 

since coming 

back to 

Gaza he has 

continued to pursue his work as an 

artist, whilst under blockade since 

2007. 

Maher's artwork is inspired 

by his family's memories of 

Palestine before 1948. “He relies 

on his mother's vast details of 

her memories, for every line and 

shape in his paintings” says Maher. 

His art is a means of preserving 

Palestinian culture. “The memories 

I paint are also the hopeful 

visualisations of return” says 

Maher.

Naji, a tool that elicits such 

powerful memories of 

the home that he was 

raised in, in the village 

of Al Sawafir, Gaza. 

In this dreamlike 

depiction entitled, 

‘The Remaining 

Memory’, Naji 

“He relies on his 

mother's vast details 

of her memories, for 

every line and shape 

in his paintings” says 

Maher. 

visually interprets his mother’s 

recounting of the hand mill and 

the manner in which it was used 

to grind wheat grains as she 

conversed with the women that 

surrounded her.

Bedu, Dubai’s foremost pioneer in 

web3 technologies announced its second curated 

art drop titled “Colonies on Mars” 

Late last year, a survey 

found that NFT ownership 

in the UAE is twice the 

global average, with 23% 

of respondents from the country 

owning at least one token. Set to 

become a global crypto hub, Dubai 

is home to the world’s first agency 

for digital Islamic art NFTs. In its 

15th year, the Art Dubai exhibition 

also rolled out a platform dedicated 

to digital art in the region. 

Now the UAE-based blockchain 

firm Bedu has bolstered its place in 

the creative realm with its second 

curated art drop. This project 

features the work of nine artists 

revolving around the theme of the 

colonization of Mars. Each artist 

contributed two art pieces, and 

those with a single artwork provided 

open edition tokens that allow 

unlimited minting for a limited time. 

The line-up included French artist 

and filmmaker Thomas Dubois, 

who created Outer Space and Mars 

Pearl artworks. He was joined 

by Kurdish digital artist Kurdish 

Kaiwan Shaban and artist Ben 

Bachau who explores realms of 

the unconscious. The list also 

includes Marcel Deneuve, Rui 

Huang, Stefan Große Halbuer, Reza 

Afshar, Marchiek Wolanski, and Alon 

Kartin, with diverse backgrounds, 

including game development and 

data science. The Outer Space by 

Dubois will also be airdropped to its 

collectors for free. 

Bedu had also recently launched 

UAENFT Keypass, a membership 

scheme for the NFT community.

Fazel Shams is an Iranian 

calligraphic artist born 

on 20th July of 1982. 

He is from Kerman, 

Iran, and a Bachelor of 

Chemical Sciences of Kerman 

University, Bahonar. The artist says 

“I discovered Calligraphy as my 

talent and followed that very strictly 

to manifest proper artworks at the 

middle age”. 

He says after growing up 

struggling with his other secret 

talents, Calligraphy has always had 

a higher point, so Fazel determined 

to start the journey from 2018 as 

a professional Calligrapher. It is 

interesting to know that the artist 

hasn’t had even a single course 

or coaching related to this art. 

“whatever I learnt until today is the 

result of my self-studying besides 

hard practicing” says the artist

art pieces among art-lovers both 

inside and outside of Iran, Fazel

Andrea Orr Clague was 

traditionally trained at 

Pensacola Christian 

College and graduated 

with a Master of Fine Arts 

degree in 2009. She is a member of 

the Oil Painters of America and the 

Missouri Valley Impressionist Society. 

She was selected for Southwest 

Art Magazine’s annual “21 Under 

31” feature, and her artwork was 

displayed on the issue’s cover. 

“My work reveals her fascination 

with light and the elusive beauty it 

bestows upon seemingly ordinary 

objects” says Andrea. Andrea is 

thankful for the ability to paint and 

counts it a gift from her Heavenly 

Father. “As I develop my art, I aspire

awards including Grand Prize at the 

2012 Scottsdale Salon at the Legacy

International Friendship Day 

The International 

Day of Friendship 

was proclaimed in 2011 by 

the UN General Assembly 

with the idea that friendship 

between peoples, countries, 

cultures and individuals can 

inspire peace efforts and build 

bridges between communities. It 

is celebrated on the 30th of July 

this year. The resolution places 

emphasis on involving young 

people, as future leaders, in 

community activities that include 

different cultures and promote 

international understanding and 

respect for diversity. 

To mark the International Day 

of Friendship the UN encourages 

governments, international 

organizations and civil society 

groups to hold events, activities 

and initiatives that contribute to 

the efforts of the international 

community towards promoting 

a dialogue among civilizations, 

solidarity, mutual understanding 

and reconciliation. 

The International Day of 

Friendship is an initiative that 

follows on the proposal made by 

UNESCO defining the Culture of 

Peace as a set of values, attitudes 

and behaviors that reject violence 

and endeavor to prevent conflicts 

by addressing their root causes 

with a view to solving problems. 

It was then adopted by the UN 

General Assembly in 1997.

Residents can now meet the Ajman 

police officers in the Metaverse 

Now you can interact 

with Ajman Police in 

the metaverse, a virtual 

representation of a real 

location where people’s avatars 

meet, doing away with the need to 

visit a police station. 

Members of the community 

and police officials can interact 

with each other in the metaverse 

after wearing Virtual Reality (VR) 

headsets and connecting through 

smart phones, tablets, laptops or 

desktop computers. For ‘visitors’, 

it provides the opportunity to visit 

officials in a meeting room in the 

metaverse. 

Ajman Police General Command 

said its metaverse project is the first 

such police service in the UAE and 

the development makes it the first 

government body in the emirate of 

Ajman to take the digital leap.

the Innovation Lab at Al Nuaimiya 

Comprehensive Police Station in 

collaboration with the innovation 

team of Ajman Police. It was based 

on the recommendation of the 

Future Readiness Team.

Lisa Hunt is a Maplewood, 

New Jersey-based artist 

and designer. Her screen 

printed and collaged 

works on paper and panel 

explore the spatial and meditative 

relationships found within repeat 

patterns. Through the use of 

graphic shapes and symbols, 

Hunt’s work draws inspiration 

from a broad range of influences 

including West African textiles, 

African American 

quilt-making, 

typography and the 

Art Deco movement. 

Hunt’s work draws 

a connection to 

adornment 

throughout 

history while 

commenting on 

contemporary 

materialism 

and value by 

accenting her primarily neutral 

palette with gold leaf. 

As an artist and a maker, 

what’s most inspiring to Lisa is 

the exploration of themes that 

are expressive of the infinite 

passing of time symbolized by her 

modern interpretations of palms, 

pomegranates, sonic coils and 

arrows. She creates decorative 

motifs that appeal on multiple 

levels. 

Lisa prefers using a lot of gold 

and gold leaf in her artwork, the 

use of gold and gold leaf in her art 

comes from her desire to illuminate 

her patterns in a way that allows 

the viewers to endure. “Making 

art may be the path to healing, 

waiting for my muses to return in 

the meantime” says Lisa. Allusions 

to everything from Art Deco and 

folk art to typographic elements 

repurposed and reimagined in her 

artworks.

INDEX 2022 hailed huge success as 

thousands attend region’s largest interior design 

industry gathering 

INDEX (The International Interior Design, Furniture & Fit-Out Exhibition) welcomed over 22,000 

visitors across all of its co-located shows at the 2022 edition. The show remains the largest and most 

significant interiors event in the Middle East, connecting the world’s leading furniture and homeware, 

kitchen and bathroom, lighting and decor brands with regional hospitality, residential, commercial 

and retail buyers.

addressed issues

The INDEX Design Talks 

conference, The Work Design 

Summit and the new Retail 

Leadership Forum, brought together 

the leaders and thinkers of the 

industry for a series of live debates 

and discussions on important 

design-focused topics which saw a 

large turnout of attendees. Some key 

takeaways from the talks included 

tips on how architects and designers 

can explore the Metaverse and 

conquering the new technology, as 

well as the shift to more sustainable 

projects. New for 2022, the Retail 

Leadership Forum provided 

dedicated intelligence and critical 

discussion for retailers of interiors 

products in the Middle East. With an 

increasing volume of retail buyers 

attending the show, it offered a 

chance for retail leaders and buyers 

to discover the latest in consumer 

trends, logistics strategy and detailed 

procurement techniques.

high level talent and industry experts 

attending the event this year,” said

Ashik is a young Dubai 

based abstract artist who 

moved to the Emirates 

from India around 8 years 

back and developed her career. 

She is known for fusion of metallic 

textured abstracts and calligraphy. 

For Sumaira abstracts was an 

expression of art. Using materials 

such as modeling paste, palette 

knives and paint scrapers allow her 

to build layers, texture and contrast 

to give a 3d view to each work. 

The artist likes to create mixed 

media abstracts as well as 

fluid abstracts using 

minimal as well as 

heavy textures. 

Combining this 

with her passion for 

incorporating 

Arabic calligraphy into her work help 

her to create a masterpiece original 

contemporary Arabic calligraphy 

abstract. “Even if it's completely

For last five years, her passion has 

helped her to enhance residential 

and commercial interior with a 

bespoke piece of contemporary 

artwork. She worked directly with her 

clients, as well as interior designers. 

She uses to participate in local art 

markets such as Ripe and Arte.

Photogenic lakes to visit in 

the UAE that look like a piece

Long Salt Lake 

Wondering where the pastel green lakes with lily pads lie? It’s a place called ‘Long 

Salt Lake’, in the Al Wathba region of Abu Dhabi. Drive through a patch of desert – 

i.e. go off-roading a bit – and you’ll come across this pool 

Love Lake 

While you’re in Al Qudra, don’t forget to check out a lake in the 

shape of intertwined hearts, called the Love Lake. The venue is 

perfect for barbeques and sunsets with your significant other, or 

the entire family. Flamingos, ducks, and swans are aplenty around 

the lakes in the area. 

Moon Lake 

Dubai’s Moon Lake is the latest viral trend among 

residents and a must-see destination. Located in Al 

Qudra desert, it is frequented by Arabian Onyx and 

gazelles. In true UAE-style, head over there in a 4x4 

vehicle for a nice sunset visit.

Expo Lake 

Expo Lake celebrates the fact that Dubai hosted the 

first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South 

Asian region. Located just beyond the Expo site near 

the Al Maktoum Airport, you may get a bird’s eye 

view if you were flying out of Dubai's Al Maktoum 

International Airport. 

Plant Lake 

The Instagram-worthy Plant Lake is reportedly located on the 

eastern side of Al Jubail Island, close to Zeera Island and 

across the water from Khor Laffan. This newly discovered lake 

was also appropriately named due to its unique shape, which 

in this case resembles a plant with its structure akin to a root 

and leaves. 

Pink Lake 

UAE university student Ammar Al Farsi first captured 

stunning photos of what he affectionately called the ‘Pink 

Lake’, which went viral on social networking sites. In an 

article published by the website howstuffworks.com, it 

explained that Halobacteria and the algae Dunaliella 

salina cause lakes to turn pink in colour, as they both 

which thrive in salty environments. The exact cause of this 

lake hasn’t been verified yet, but it’s worth a visit and a 

photography session. 

Swan Lake 

Swan Lake in Hatta is a thrilling destination, with the 

shimmering but tranquil surface of the lake reflecting the 

gorgeous rising sun. Ducks waddle out of their nests for a 

morning swim, and the sound of flowing water can be heard. 

A relaxing retreat from Dubai's hectic daily life, this lake is a 

relatively obscure destination that is quickly becoming one of 

the emirate's most popular day trips. The lake is also close to 

the Hatta Heritage Village –and is approximately a 90-minute 

drive away from Dubai.

Born in January 1991, 

David Djiango grew 

up in the south of 

France. It's in this lightfilled 

place that David 

becomes passionate about art. He 

developed his taste for drawing 

and painting, in particular at the 

Bô workshop where he learned the 

different techniques applied to art: 

charcoal, pencil, Indian ink, and 

acrylic. 

In 2010, he left his native 

region, the French 

Riviera, to settle in Paris 

and began studying at 

Penninghen, a school 

of interior architecture, 

design & graphic 

art. “A game of 

contrast settles 

between the 

brightest and 

most mattified spaces of my plot” 

says David. A year later, convinced 

that the future of the architectural 

profession must integrate current 

ecological issues, David evolves 

towards an eco-responsible 

architecture. 

He designs houses with natural 

and renewable materials while 

preserving biodiversity and local 

resources. He won his first student 

competition at the Ecole Spéciale 

of Architecture in Paris in 2015 and 

carried out with their workshop his 

first project composed exclusively 

of bamboo in Mancora, in the north

Contemporary Abstract by Nastya 


MNastya was born in Belarus 

and currently lives & works 

out of her home studio in 

Dubai as a full-time artist. Since 

childhood, she was creative and 

passionate about painting and fine 

Art. To expand her knowledge, she 

attended art school for a couple of 

years and had her first experience 

as an artist by participating in 

exhibitions. 

Since those days art has been 

present throughout her life. 

However, it took her many years 

to listen to her creative soul, and 

become an artist. “Without the 

ability to actualize an idea or 

concept, art would not exist” says 

Nastya. She was so passionate that 

creativity occupied all her free time 

in the pandemic and the result is 

now clearly visible. 

Nastya quickly established 

herself as a contemporary artist 

and her paintings have been well 

received within UAE homes and 

overseas. She found success in 

various commissioned projects in 

collaboration with local designers, 

has been featured in numerous 

exhibitions and showcased her 

works in galleries across Dubai. 

“My favorite painting is the one I 

haven't created yet. The journey is 

important,” says Nastya. Her style 

is full of movement and texture, 

often involving layered patterns 

and details, which adds depth 

and intricacy to each piece. The 

majority of her works today are 

abstract, fluid and mixed media 

paintings, but her subject matter 

is nature. Her landscape paintings 

are varied, mesmerizing and calm. 

She does not try to illustrate the 

story, but rather evoke a mood and 

create a pleasant atmosphere. In 

many of her works, she depicts 

interpreted seascapes, sunsets 

and abstractions on a sea-theme. 

And her floral paintings demand to 

be examined. Using liquid acrylic 

paint, she creates floral motifs with 

interesting and visually organic 

patterns in her signature style.

The Expo 2020 Dubai team has 

created its first collection of 

limited-edition non-fungible 

tokens (NFTs). In a marketing mailer, 

the Expo team highlighted how

first to own the collectible digital art 

pieces. 

“All you have to do is sign up

expected to be completed in 2024. 

However, for over the next few 

weeks till July 17, community 

members can enjoy a preview 

activation at Mamsha Al Saadiyat.

peek from teamLab Phenomena Abu 

Dhabi ahead of the public opening of 

the limited days activation beginning 

from Friday. 

The journey starts with ‘Waves 

of Light’, a digital installation of 

continuous loop. And then there’s 

‘Resonating Microcosms’ with 

solidified light colour that can be 

experienced by placing your hand 

on it. The immersive artworks 

embody the concept of ‘infinite 

curiosity’ and serves as a teaser for 

the wonderful sensory exploration 

that awaits visitors in 2024. 

The iconic destination will feature 

original and constantly changing 

art and technology that is unique 

to Abu Dhabi and will inspire the 

next generation of creators and 

innovators. The installations will 

be housed within an architectural 

masterpiece that is designed to flow 

around the artworks. 

TeamLab will deploy its new 

concept of environmental 

phenomena, which offers new 

perspectives on the world. The 

featured artworks, which will be 

created through an extensive 

experimentation process, will 

be shaped by the changing 

environment. 

Each experience will be unique 

to each visitor, changing with every 

visit, as they discover a place in 

which to explore and transcend the 

limits of their imagination.

Free Flow by Soufiya 

Soufiya is a self-taught 

Moroccan artist living in Dubai 

for the past twelve years. She 

explores colors in her artwork that 

convey the emotions and values in 

life. Her technique represents the 

free-flowing nature of the world. 

Soufiya’ s paintings are described 

as “beautifully imperfect”. 

Often large in scale with strikingly 

bold colours and texture, each 

piece offers discovery. Her 

process is rooted in memory and 

imagination, and her emotions 

are palpable. When she’s at work, 

Soufiya becomes utterly engrossed 

in her practice. It’s a fully physical 

task with music turned up loud and 

paint flying. “An artist is a thinker 

who brings light to the world, new 

perspectives on reality, and new 


approaches to life” says Soufiya 

Soufiya is a positive force, but 

there are contrasts in texture and 

hue that suggest the opposition 

of forces, exuberant, sensual 

and often surprising. She likes 

to incorporate texture and colors 

of the world in her art. She using 

acrylic paints then mixing with 

different mediums and texture; 

re-defining her overall view. 

She discovers the composition 

of the work through the gentle 

manipulation of paint on the 

canvas, working her way to a piece 

that feels ‘inevitable.’

two Arab artists, are chosen to be honored with an 

award at UK’s biennial exhibition 

Artes Mundi, the UK’s 

biennial exhibition and 

international contemporary 

art prize, unveiled its shortlist for 

its tenth edition this week. Two 

Arab musicians are among the 

international nominees: Alia Farid 

of Kuwait and Mounira Al-Solh of 

Lebanon. 

The works of the artists will be

millions, here are some fascinating insights into 10 of the world’s most famous artworks 

'The Scream', Edvard Munch 

Norwegian artist Munch created his famous piece in 

1893, a work which has come to symbolise the anxiety, 

trauma and isolation of the human condition. What is less 

known is that the figure in the foreground of the painting 

isn’t the one doing the screaming. Rather, they are 

reacting to the scream. 

'American Gothic', Grant Wood 

Grant’s work has suffered from misinterpretation over 

the years, likely owing to the dour looks on his subjects’ 

faces. Despite the expressions of the pair, who are 

actually a father and daughter, not man and wife, Grant 

had intended the piece, created in 1930, to be a positive 

representation of rural American values in the face of the 

Great Depression. Wood used his sister and his dentist as 

models for the portrait. 


'Girl With a Pearl Earring', 

Johannes Vermeer 

The art world has long debated whether 

the girl in the painting is actually wearing 

an earring, or whether it is simply 

reflected light, as close inspection shows 

the “earring” is not attached to her ear. 

Vermeer did not call his work ‘Girl with 

a Pearl Earring’, rather that became 

its official title in 1995, when the Royal 

Mauritshuis Gallery chose it for the 

Vermeer exhibition in Washington. 

'Mona Lisa', Leonardo Da 

Vinci 

Because her smile is so legendary, the 

background to Da Vinci’s masterpiece 

is often overlooked, but has inspired as 

many arguments and debates as her 

enigmatic lips. Clearly asymmetrical, the 

left side of the background is significantly 

lower than the right, and the landscape 

itself has been debated by art historians 

for centuries, as to whether it was real or 

from the artist’s imagination. 

'The Starry Night', Vincent Van Gogh 

Painted in 1889, the scene in The Starry Night is the view from the Saint-Paul de 

Mausole asylum in which the Dutch painter had voluntarily admitted himself to 

following his breakdown in December 1888, when he mutilated his left ear. The view 

is from the east-facing window of his room in the French town of Saint-Remy-de- 

Provence, although the village is from the artist’s imagination. The brightest star in the 

centre is Venus (The Morning Star) which was visible at the time. 

'The Weeping Woman', Pablo 

Picasso 

Back in 1986, one of Picasso’s Weeping 

Woman (there are four version which the 

artist painted in 1937), was stolen and 

went missing for three weeks before it 

was returned — but to this day, no one 

knows who took it. The piece was stolen 

from the National Gallery of Victoria in 

Melbourne, The Weeping Woman was 

recovered but the members of ACT have 

never been identified or found.

'Sleeping Lady with Black 

Vase', Robert Bereny 

The art world has the 1999 film Stuart 

Little to thank for the reappearance of a 

work of art which had been missing since 

1928. The work had been sold in 1928 

and was considered lost after the Second 

World War. After two years, Barki tracked 

down the film's set designer, who had 

bought the painting at an antique shop in 

California. 

'David', Michelangelo 

Standing 5.2 metres tall, Michelangelo’s David is one of the most famous sculptures 

in the world. Now housed at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, when it was first 

unveiled on September 8, 1504, it was situated outside the Palazzo Vecchio, which 

was the seat of civic government in Florence. The statue’s gaze is actually a cautionary 

glare from the city-state of Florence, directed at Rome, also then a city-state and not 

yet the Italian capital, as a warning against challenging the city. 

'The Last Supper', Leonardo Da Vinci 

It’s one of the most famous paintings in the world. And while visitors to the Louvre often 

express amazement at how small the Mona Lisa is, visitors to Santa Maria delle Grazie 

in Milan are usually taken aback at the scale of Da Vinci’s The Last Supper. Measuring 

4.6 metres by 8.8 metres, the work, which was painted between 1495 and 1498, Of the 

many symbolic references in the painting, by Judas’s arm is a container of spilt salt, 

which was considered a bad omen. 

'Arnolfini Portrait', Jan van 

Eyck 

It’s a graffiti tag recognized the world 

over. One seen on walls in every city 

featuring the graffiti artist’s name, 

followed by “was here” and the date. 

Van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, painted in 

1434, of the Italian merchant Giovanni di 

Nicolao Arnolfini and his wife, features a 

very notable tag on the wall behind the 

couple. The Latin script reads: “Johannes 

de eyck fuit hic 1434" which translates to 

“Jan van Eyck was here in 1434.”

Ute Herrmann is a German 

artist who comes from 

a family of artists. Her 

father has been her 

tutor and has made her 

familiar with the paintbrush and 

canvas since early childhood. She 

is an artist in the truest sense of the 

word, as her paintings are all about 

the attractiveness of colours and 

the surfaces of her objects. “I enjoy 

creating spaces in my paintings that 

let the viewer's eye wander” says 

Ute. 

She captures bright, pleasant 

moods and, with her cheerful 

colours in oil on canvas, creates 

impressionistic pictures full of joie de 

vivre and quiet pleasure. “The sun 

in my paintings warms the soul and 

makes us think of carefree hours” 

says Ute. There are places and 

moments in this world that seem 

to be waiting for nothing but their 

discovery: The glowing yellow of 

a rapeseed field, the warm red of 

poppies, a half-open garden door 

or a street cafe inviting us to step 

inside. These are the impressions 

and moods which Ute Herrmann 

captures on canvas in oil and in

The special appeal of her 

paintings derives from her depth

Natural History Museum Abu

that it will be arriving in the 

capital in 2025. The project 

will bring some of the rarest natural 

specimens from billions of years ago to 

the capital, including “Stan”, a 67-millionyear-old 

tyrannosaurus rex skeleton and 

the Murchison Meteorite, which is famous 

for its organic stardust compounds. 

The Natural History Museum Abu 

Dhabi will also have a teaching institute 

and scientific research centre that 

will undertake studies in zoology, 

palaeontology, marine biology, molecular 

research and earth sciences. 

DCT Abu Dhabi and Miral are 

bringing a whole new kind 

of art to Abu Dhabi with the 

brand new art space: teamLab 

Phenomena Abu Dhabi. The “home of 

infinite curiosity,” will feature original and 

constantly changing art and technology 

created by Tokyo-based art collective, 

teamLab. 

The space will be housed within what 

sounds like yet another architectural 

masterpiece on Saadiyat Island. The 

featured artworks will be created through 

an experimentation process, which is

Andrea Arenas is a 

Spanish Artist, singer 

and musician. Her first 

approach to arts and 

painting was at 9 years 

old when she expressed her desire 

to do oil paintings. However, after 

a few months’ music came to her 

life to and took the center stage 

and it was in her adulthood that she 

decided to comeback to painting, 

falling in love with watercolor this 

time. 

She started to learn the technique 

with the American artist Harold 

Bradford in 2017, and she has 

been developing it since then. 

She graduated in Electronic 

Engineering, and developed 

her career as a sound engineer. 

When she started painting with 

watercolors, portraits were the first 

thing she instinctively wanted to 

do, mainly from photographs of 

unknown and peculiar people. 

“Painting strangers makes it 

easier until you realize it can help 

you to connect with people” says 

Andrea. Hence the artist says she 

started using family portraits and 

friends’ pictures as inspiration 

to paint. “Recreating memories 

through paintings are magical and 

indescribable moments for me” 

says Andrea.

5. Allow each piece of art to speak to 

you 

If you're going to an art show, plan on 

spending time in front of each piece. Don't 

try to see everything in the exhibit by rushing 

through it. Allow each piece of art to speak 

to you as you examine it. Some artworks may 

take longer to complete than others, but that's 

fine. There's no need to rush through the 

exhibit merely to check it off your list of things 

to see. You'll get a lot more out of your visit if 

you take your time and examine the artworks 

on show. There are usually a few things to 

do before seeing an art exhibit, whether 

you're a first-time visitor to an art museum or 

an experienced expert. You may make the 

most of your time spent viewing artwork by 

following these five tips, which will help you 

have a more enjoyable experience overall.

ARCHITECTURAL WONDERS 

The Blue Mosque, 

Istanbul 

The Blue Mosque was constructed between 1609 

and 1616 during the rule of Ahmed I. The interior 

walls are covered in hand-painted blue tiles, and at 

night the mosque is bathed in blue as lights frame 

the mosque’s five main domes, six minarets and eight 

secondary domes. 

At its lower levels and at every pier, the interior of the 

mosque is lined with more than 20,000 handmade 

iznik style ceramic tiles, made at iznik-the ancient 

Nicaea, in more than fifty different tulip designs. 

The most important element in the interior of the 

mosque is the mihrab, which is made of finely carved 

and sculptured marble, with a stalactite niche and a 

double inscriptive panel above it. 

It sits next to the Hagia Sophia, the principal mosque 

of Istanbul until the Blue Mosque's construction and 

another popular tourist site. The Blue Mosque was 

included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 

1985 under the name of “Historic Areas of Istanbul"

The Grand Mosque was constructed between 

1994 and 2007, covering an area of more than 12 

hectares (30 acres), excluding exterior landscaping 

and vehicle parking. 

In a joint-venture between Italian contractors 

Impregilo and Rizzani de Eccher, more than 3,000 

workers and 38 sub-contracting companies were 

conscripted in its construction. 

The project was launched by the late president 

of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Zayed 

bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a 

structure that would unite the cultural diversity of the 

Islamic world with the historical and modern values 

of architecture and art
