Day 8 - Team Sask at the
2022 Canada Summer
Games
Aug 13, 2022 - ST. CATHARINES, ON - Team Sask wins two medals on
the final day of week one competition at the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer
Games.
Men’s baseball does it again! The defending champions from the 2017 Canada
Summer Games take home another medal, this time bronze. In a nail-biting
game Team Sask defeated Team BC, 6-5.
The women’s basketball team played Team AB in the gold medal game. For
most of the game Team Sask led. Our girls battled to the end with Nevaeh Ferrara-Horne
(#6) hitting a heated 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in the game.
Final score: 71 AB - 60 SK, resulting in Team Sask earning a silver medal.
TEAM SASK MEDAL COUNT:
GOLD: X | SILVER: 6 | BRONZE: 4 | TOTAL: 10
“This is just the best feeling in the world, it’s amazing coming out here and
having fun with the boys” said Sutter Balog (#17, Weyburn), men’s baseball. “I
didn’t doubt this team one bit.”
“Team Sask baseball winning bronze in 2022 is a phenomenal accomplishment.
It shows what kind of a program Baseball Sask is run in winning medals
at the last two Canada Games (gold in 2017/bronze in 2022). Great support
with almost all the parents being at these games and great support from other
Team Sask athletes and coaches. Gotta love multi-sport games. Gotta love the
Canada Games” -Darrell Barker, Team Sask Misson Staff for men’s baseball.
“I thought we played three quarters of really good basketball and then struggled
in the fourth... we were a little tentative but I feel like our defense really
kept us in the game” said Bree Burgess, head coach for the women’s basketball
team. “This experience is amazing, I described this to my team five years ago
like a mini-olympics and how lucky they are to be born at the right time and
be given this opporutnity. It’s like a once in a life time opportunity and it’s just
amazing to be a part of it.”
