The Answer Lady invites inquiries from
gentle readers on all manner of relationship
quandaries, matters of the
heart and ethics. If you’d like to send
a query, write to info@exitzero.us. Or,
simply sit back, enjoy a cup of coffee and contemplate
the wisdom herein.
Dear Answer Lady
We have some dear friends who love
to have us over to dinner. The problem is
their dogs. Dogs should be contained when
strangers are in the house but, they think of
them as their children. They get offended
when we do not dote on them or encourage
them to come to us. As a consequence, the
dogs are badly behaved. They jump on us and
sometimes join us at table. Lately, we have
begged off dinner invitations, telling them one
excuse after another. We love their company,
but not their dogs. Is this the price we must pay
for their friendship? — Dog gone tired
This is why God invented restaurants.
There are so many to choose from, why not
Wise answers to perplexing questions
take advantage? In the interim, you must have
a talk with your friends. Sometimes the truth
is not always the kindest option. The Answer
Lady suggests you blame allergies, and you
can’t join them for dinner unless the dogs are
contained. You can also offer that you and your
spouse host dinner or eat out. There are so
many exciting dining choices — Grana and the
newly opened Cricket Club are among them.
Dear Answer Lady
I have a little cleaning business that I run
with my sister. We only do a few homes, but
they are large, whole house rentals that turn
over every Saturday. We were cleaning one
of them last week and at the end, she said, “I
can’t do this anymore. This is my last day.”
She left me scrambling to find someone for
this weekend. No matter who it is, they won’t
be as good as she is. But who does that to
any employer? Don’t you think I deserve an
apology? — Dissed Sista
Dear Sista
The Answer Lady only knows your side
of this, but one thing she does know — you
start talking about the business you run “with
my sister.” You end by saying “Who does that
to any employer.” Which is she? Co-owner
or employee? You better think about this
before you get huffy demanding an apology.
Order one of the Cheese Shop’s beautiful
cheese boards. Grab a bottle of pinot grigio
from Collier’s and welcome her over to have a
serious and open chat.
