Richard Buckley, a Boston-born award-winning
painter changes his black and white paintings to
abstract impressions adding color to his life.
“It was all black and white and red for at least
10 to 15 years and then he moved here, and it’s
all been color ever since!” said Buckley’s daughter,
Diana Uhrich.
Buckley is a Swampscott resident who gets inspired
by the beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean
directly from his apartment window. “I meditate
right outside the window. The leaves, the flowers,
the creatures. Oh, my God, everything! and the
water,” said Buckley.
Buckley has been meditating since his early
20’s starting with Zen meditation, with its art
equivalent of black ink on white paper, “To me, art
is spiritual. I meditate and when I meditate, the
paining’s happens for me. When I close my eyes,
I can see a painting before it starts to happen. I
meditate on nature,” said Buckley.
The Swampscott artist feels physically and mentally
elevated through meditation and sees nature
as his higher power.
In the past few years, Buckley found a higher
purpose for his painting by helping his daughter,
