Apprentice profileLUCY Perry started United Utilities inSeptember 2021 as an Apprentice CreditController within the Income Department.Since then, her confidence has grownsignificantly through the communicationbetween colleagues and with customers.“Not only have I developed in my role but the widerange of interpersonal skills I have developed sincestarting here have been transferable in my personal lifetoo,” she confides. “I never considered all that is involvedwith collecting money and debt until starting myapprenticeship, but with the support from my colleaguesand knowledge from the CICM course, I feel I have learntso much already in the short time I’ve been here.”Unfamiliar journeyCredit control was not something Lucy was familiar withuntil starting at United Utilities. She candidly admits thatshe saw the apprenticeship as an opportunity to learnsomething new and develop her skills having alreadycome from a customer service role.“Although this felt completely new to me as I had nevercome across the CICM, having the chance to learn whileworking on the job works really well as it gives me thechance to transfer my knowledge and skills first-handinto my everyday role. It has been clear this has workedwell for me through the positive customer feedback Ihave received since starting my role which has given methe confidence to go even further with everything thatI do.”Lucy is now coming towards the end of herApprenticeship: “It seems to have flown by,” she laughs.This means crunch time as I am currently going throughend point assessment which has been more challengingthan I expected.“I am grateful for the well-presented lessons anddetailed tasks we have been set in the past as these havereally helped. I now know why we were told to writeeverything down!
