Acupuncture Points<br />

ACUPOINT CATEGORIES<br />

Traditional Chinese Medicine has many different c<strong>at</strong>egories<br />

of acupoints. The acupuncturist must str<strong>at</strong>egically use different<br />

acupoints to achieve the desired effects. Some types of<br />

points are used to increase energy or Qi in the meridian<br />

while other points are used to decrease Qi in the meridian.<br />

Different c<strong>at</strong>egories of acupoints are used for diseases involving<br />

the organs while other points are more specific for musculoskeletal<br />

problems. It should be noted th<strong>at</strong> there is obviously<br />

more than one approach to TCM, and different practitioners<br />

will approach a problem differently. The same applies<br />

to Western medicine. The most frequently used acupoint c<strong>at</strong>egories<br />

are discussed below.<br />

Ting points<br />

Ting points are the beginning or ending points of a meridian,<br />

where energy is exchanged with the exterior. They are<br />
