would appear in relation to certain specific diseases. He then
took normal cows and irritated their organs to see where
they would become sensitive. When he irritated a cow’s
uterus with iodine, a painful point would appear on the
surface of the skin. This point corresponded to an acupoint
specific for the uterus. It appeared at the same site for all the
cows. In those cows with white hair, he reported that the
area was red and the hair would stand up. The electrical resistance
at the area also would decrease as measured by an
ohmmeter.
In another example, an equine veterinarian successfully
used a TCM examination to pinpoint fetlock pain in 327 racehorses.
He used a thorough TCM diagnostic exam to evaluate
each horse. The points specific for fetlock pain were sensitive
in every horse. The sensitive points disappeared after the
suspicious fetlock joint was blocked with an intra-articular
joint block. The
blocks eliminate the
pain in the joint
and, therefore, eliminate
the sensitivity
in the acupoint.
Lameness of the
equine foot that involved
purely extraarticular
structures
such as abscesses
was not associated
with channel imbalance
or sensitivity
to pressure at
the acupoints.
Therefore, certain
problems such as
TCM can help diagnose obscure lamenesses.
