Wh<strong>at</strong> is a Meridian or Channel?<br />

<strong>at</strong> the midline or just outside the midline of the coronary<br />

band of the hind foot. The Stomach meridian’s peak time is 8<br />

a.m. to 10 a.m. It is associ<strong>at</strong>ed with muscles and uses the<br />

mouth as its sense organ. Its alarm point is C12, loc<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

midway between the xiphoid (base of the breastbone) and<br />

the umbilicus. The associ<strong>at</strong>ion point is BL21. It is paired with<br />

the Spleen meridian. The Stomach meridian is used in the<br />

tre<strong>at</strong>ment of gastrointestinal ulcers, colic, eye problems, and<br />

front leg lameness.<br />

The Spleen meridian is Yin with 21 acupoints. It begins <strong>at</strong><br />

the back inside of the coronary band of the hind foot and<br />

passes along the inside of the hind limb. The meridian then<br />

courses across the abdomen almost to the elbow where it<br />

turns back across the abdomen to end by the 10th intercostal<br />

(between the ribs) space <strong>at</strong> the level of the shoulder joint. Its<br />

peak energy time is 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Paired with the<br />

Stomach,it is also linked<br />

with muscles and the<br />

mouth. The alarm point<br />

is LIV13 and associ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

point is BL20. The Spleen<br />

meridian is helpful in<br />

cases of tying up (exer-<br />

tional rhabdomyelosis),<br />

reproductive disorders,<br />

and lameness in the<br />

hind leg.<br />
