Acupuncture Points
Connecting Points
Each of the major meridians communicates with its paired
channel through the Connecting point or Luo point. These
points can, therefore, be used to treat disorders of both Yin
and Yang meridians by equalizing Qi between coupled channels.
The Connecting points behave as “short-circuits,”allowing
for excess of energy to pass through the point from one
channel to another. For instance, disharmony in the Stomach
meridian can be balanced by treating the Spleen Connecting
point. Connecting points are most commonly used in conjunction
with the Source points. For example, a horse with
weak or deficient lungs may need tonification of the Lung
Source point and sedation of the Connecting point of the
Lung with the Large Intestine.
Horory Points
Horory points are the most powerful points on each meridian
at a particular time of day as related to the circadian
clock. The greatest concentration of Qi in the meridian will
be found at this point during the meridian’s peak activity. As
such, when this point is stimulated during the time of day
that the meridian is receiving its greatest energy, the effects
of treatment are enhanced.
Accumulation Points
Accumulation points are also called Xi-Cleft points. These
are points where Qi and Blood tend to naturally accumulate.
They are used to treat acute diseases by relieving obstructions
in the meridian.
Influential Points
Influential points have strong effects on functional systems
such as the bones, ligaments, and tendons. These points are
used in conjunction with other points.
