Auditor seeks<br />
input on reappraisal<br />
process<br />
As we approach <strong>2023</strong>, your auditor’s<br />
office is completing a monumental undertaking<br />
- the Mass Property Reappraisal,<br />
during which the office reappraises every<br />
property in the county to determine appropriate<br />
current values.<br />
As we conduct the reappraisal, as<br />
required by state law, I am dedicated to<br />
leading an office with programs and initiatives<br />
that will help existing homeowners<br />
afford to stay in their neighborhoods as<br />
well as promote more affordable housing.<br />
The auditor’s office wants to engage residents<br />
and make them an integral part of<br />
the reappraisal process, ensuring their<br />
voices are heard about their home values.<br />
For the first time ever, the office is conducting<br />
a Neighborhood Survey, where<br />
residents tell us about their neighborhoods<br />
to help appraisers assign more accurate<br />
home valuations. No one understands a<br />
neighborhood better than the people who<br />
live in it, and in seeking the direct input of<br />
residents before tentative value are established,<br />
the auditor’s office seeks to eliminate<br />
bias in the reappraisal process.<br />
After appraisers have determined tentative<br />
values in the fall of <strong>2023</strong>, the office<br />
will again offer opportunities, both in-person<br />
and virtual for Informal Value Review<br />
sessions, where homeowners who feel their<br />
values are too low or too high can have<br />
one-on-one meetings with auditor’s office<br />
appraisers. You’ll hear more about these<br />
sessions throughout the year.<br />
The auditor’s office will continue to<br />
serve Franklin County residents and businesses<br />
with forward-thinking initiatives<br />
and programs that help make our community<br />
the very best place to live and work. I<br />
look forward to engaging with the community<br />
throughout <strong>2023</strong> and taking the<br />
opportunity to help Franklin County residents<br />
as we complete the reappraisal.<br />
