ACTIVE EXPLORERS LEESTON
Here at Active Explorers Leeston, we believe that for
a child to thrive in life they need to be nurtured and
respected, through relationships and a curriculum
of intentional care and teaching. We are
committed to our people and place in the world.
Relationships are at the core to all that we do.
Our Explorer Class (under 2), is a haven of warmth
and care where our youngest learners are
nurtured through all their first milestones by a
calm, nurturing and experienced team of teachers
who are committed to the growth, development
and learning of our infants. Our nursery team
provide an intentional environment to support their
learners needs and requirements.
Our Discovery Class (2-4+year olds), is our biggest
class. Here routines and a curriculum of discovery
begins for our learners. Our curriculum is
inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach
to learning where the environment is
our third teacher and is thoughtfully and
intentionally facilitated with our individual
children’s interests and learning in mind.
We empower children to develop a love of
learning, through inspiring their curiosity
and confidence. We support children’s
developing relationships and social
competencies.
Our Enquiry Class (our oldest 4 year olds).
This class has a focus on pathways to school,
where encouraging independence and further
refining developed strengths, interests and social
competencies are continued in the intentional
facilitation of learning for this class. Our learners
are supported to take more responsibility for

themselves, their peers and environment. Strong
relationships with our local schools upheld. Local
community excursions are also a highlight, these
connect us to our place in the world.

Having fun and being creative while learning
is an important aspect of your child’s day. We
pride ourselves in supporting children to become
independent learners by taking risks, extending
interests and allowing children time to solve and
negotiate problems. We empower children to
develop a love for learning and a sense of curiosity
and express their emotions respectfully while
learning how to initiate and maintain respectful
relationships with others. We strongly believe in

action are best between 9am – 3pm, but we have
an open door policy to fit with you and your child’s
