Gotha resident Bill Cowles,<br />

Orange County’s longest-serving supervisor<br />

of elections, announced that<br />

he intends to retire at the end of his<br />

current term, Jan. 6, 2025. He has<br />

been an integral part of the Orange<br />

County Supervisor of Elections office<br />

since 1989. Prior to joining the<br />

elections team as chief deputy, Bill<br />

served 13 years on the staff of the<br />

Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts<br />

of America. He was elected as the<br />

Orange County supervisor of elections<br />

in 1996 and was reelected in<br />

every election since. Bill supervises<br />

the fifth-largest county elections office<br />

in the state of Florida. “It has<br />

been the role of a lifetime to be<br />

trusted by the citizens of Orange<br />

County to conduct secure elections<br />

with the highest standards of integrity,”<br />

Bill said. “After a fulfilling 33<br />

years (which will be 35 years at the<br />

end of the term), first as chief deputy<br />

and now supervisor, it is time to<br />

pass the torch and retire to private<br />

life and enjoy time with my wife and<br />

four grandsons.”<br />

interim board chairperson<br />

of Dave’s House.<br />

During her one-year<br />

term, Martha will be the<br />

first woman to lead the<br />

nonprofit’s work to end<br />

homelessness for men<br />

and women with serious<br />

mental illness through<br />

the development of<br />

permanent supportive<br />

housing. She succeeds<br />

Adam Schwartz of<br />

Schwartz Coaching &<br />

Advisory Inc., who completed<br />

his three-year<br />

term in 2022. Martha,<br />

a longtime Dave’s<br />

House advocate, previously served<br />

as board treasurer and an executive<br />

committee member for nine years.<br />

During this time, the nonprofit established<br />

best practice accounting<br />

procedures and met solid financial<br />

objectives year-over-year.<br />

Windermere’s homeowners association<br />

combined its annual meeting<br />

with the community’s Chili Cook-off.<br />

Residents who attended the meeting<br />

ate delicious food and mingled with<br />

their neighbors. The Chili Cook-off<br />

winners were Heather Mangum,<br />

Heather Mangum (right), Nancy Borkes (center)<br />

and Marjorie Dillingham place first, second and third,<br />

respectively, at the Woodlands of Windermere annual Chili<br />

Cook-off.<br />
