Why a Building Inspection is Imperative
Whether you’re looking to buy an older home full of character or one with a shiny new bathroom, there can be hidden dangers
lurking behind walls and floors that could end up costing thousands to fix. Better to know upfront any potential hidden costs.
ompleting a pre-purchase inspection before
Cbuying a property could save you from
potential heartache and additional financial costs
you have not budgeted for down the line. Not
only can a house inspection minimise the risk of
running into any unpleasant surprises it provides
peace of mind and confidence in your purchasing
decision. Experienced inspectors are key to
discovering anything that could potentially hide
water damage, mould and mildew as was as other
nasties if not checked thoroughly..
As a RedLBP inspector we come with a qualified
eye from years of experience and the right tools
to discover any abnormal moisture readings and
we reflect this in the report accurately, giving
you peace of mind in purchasing what is likely
your biggest asset or investment!
Mould and Mildew Red Flags:.
1. Check if there is ventilation in the home. We
sometimes see issues with mould etc inside. It
could be from the cladding, however more often
than not the problem is not from the cladding,
it is simply because the windows haven’t been
regularly opened and there is no HRV or similar
system installed.
2. Have a look to see if weep holes in the window
and door joinery are clean and clear. Grime
can build up especially on the south side of a
property and once the weep holes are filled
up then moisture cannot escape causing damp
issues.
3. Sometimes there is vegetation build-up
around the foundations. Foundation vents need
air for them to do their job of letting air flow
through the underfloor to keep it dry. Gardens
often build up and stop the flow of air causing
mould under houses and often on the sides of
cladding.
If you are buying or selling a home, it is
imperative to get a building inspection done
by an expert. It will help protect you from
purchasing or selling a property that has
problems that could easily be remedied if
identified. In addition, a building inspector can
give you peace of mind during the entire process
and help you avoid stressful surprises down the
road.
At REDLBP all
our inspectors are
licensed, qualified,
experienced, and
trusted builders with
years of hands-on
building experience.
