Welcome to the latest issue of The Garage. 

Thank you to all of you who came to say 

hello at the recent Kinetic bodyshop show 

in Telford. It was a busy event with packed 

seminars listening to presentations from 

industry experts. Although not the first time 

Vizion have organised their annual networking 

event, it was a big jump up in size and the 

event team and visitors must be happy with 

how the new format has worked. Hopefully it 

will become a regular event on the industry 

calendar. 

The IAAF have announced the venue for the 

Automechanika Garage Awards. The Hilton 

Birmingham Metropole will host the event 

on Wednesday 7 June, head over to page 11 

for more information. The NTDA have also 

announced entries are now open for their tyre 

industry awards, this and all their updates are 

on page 23. 

The Automechanika team are seeing huge 

demand for tickets for this year’s show. You

JURATEK highlights 

importance of R90 

compliance 

In the fight against the fakes, JURATEK is encouraging garages and technicians 

to ensure they are using high-quality products for all jobs, as fitting poor-quality 

parts can lead to short lifespan and poor customer service. 

The recent DVSA investigation into R90 has been a good 

reminder not to be complacent about the reasons and 

benefits of being compliant. JURATEK is helping technicians 

and motor factors identify what to look out for to remain 

compliant. 

It is now well over 20 years ago that R90 was introduced, 

initially for replacement brake pads and linings, and more 

recently, for replacement brake discs and drums. Matt Leeming, 

Marketing Manager at JURATEK comments: “Any company 

who treats the quality of the product seriously welcomes this 

legislation and is happy that the DVSA are policing this.” 

What is R90? 

The regulation is a safety standard that sets minimum levels 

of performance for replacement brake products. Product is 

tested against the equivalent OE product for the applications 

concerned. Product that meets the required standards is granted 

an approval number by a government body, such as the VCA in 

the UK, this approval number will look something like E11 90R -02 

A01234/5678. 

What else is covered by R90? 

While the performance of the product is the priority, it is not the 

only thing that the approval covers, the packaging and product 

markings are important too. For example, the label has to show 

the approval number (E11 90R -02 A01234/5678), the suppliers 

part number and in the case of friction products, the material 

type that has been tested. 

In addition, the regulation also requires ongoing checks on 

the conformance of production to ensure that each batch of 

product continues to perform at the same level as when it was 

first approved. 

How do I know if my product is approved? 

The responsibility of this legislation is shared at all levels of the 

supply chain, to ensure only approved product is fitted, so it 

is important to know what to look for. As a consumer you are 

limited in what you can do to check compliance, but the basics of 

what you can do are: 

Check if the label has an “E” mark approval number, which 

looks something like E11 90R-02A01234/46789 

l Check to see if the pad inside the box has exactly the same 

approval number on as the label 

l Is the box tamper proof? If it can be opened and re-sealed 

easily without any obvious evidence of this, then the product 

inside could be fake 

l In addition to the “E” mark approval number, the label and 

pad inside need to state the material type (which will be a 

code recognised by the DVSA and be on the certificate that 

the VCA issues). If there is no code, then it is not compliant 

l The final piece in this is that the vehicle that this part is being 

fitted to also needs to be listed on the certificate, and any new 

applications need to be added by the supplier. This is an 

ongoing conformance issue that suppliers are working on all 

the time. The certificate is not a public document, however any 

supplier who treats this seriously will ensure their certificates 

are up to date. So, it’s best to always choose a supplier who 

take ECE R90 seriously. 

What ECE R90 does NOT test for is longevity and noise. Cheaper 

alternatives could wear out faster and be overly noisy, which 

is why the OE industry, and some aftermarket companies like 

Juratek, go beyond the regulations to check for long life and low 

noise. 

It is important as a consumer to choose a brand that you can 

trust and a supplier who is serious about the legislation and has 

taken all reasonable measure to ensure compliance.

Extending MOT test risks

vehicles to UK roads 

More than 300,000 unsafe 

vehicles could be seen on 

UK roads, as a result of 

government plans to extend 

the MOT test frequency. 

According to figures from DVSA, 

300,000 vehicles approximately fail 

their first MOT test at three years. 

Moving the first test to four years under 

government proposals poses higher 

safety risks to motorists and other road 

users. 

Furthermore, as the number of new 

vehicles on UK roads are set to be 

electric powered, these are just as likely 

to fail the first MOT test, underlining the 

importance of safeguarding the current 

test regime. 

DVSA data shows that the failure rate 

on tyres at first MOT of three years is 

higher on Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) 

than on diesel vehicles. Fifty-seven 

percent of all electric vehicles that 

fail their first MOT test, fail on tyres, 

compared with 35 percent of diesel 

vehicles and 37 percent of petrol vehicles 

tested. 

Trade Federation IAAF is arguing that 

motorists are already too ‘detached’ 

from their vehicle service, repair and 

maintenance responsibilities, largely 

due to unrealistic reliability claims 

and extended warranties from vehicle 

manufacturers. Moving to an extended 

test frequency will put additional 

pressures on the MOT testing network 

and IAAF is calling on the govt to support 

the industry with more public awareness 

campaigns on vehicle safety. 

Mark Field, IAAF Chief Executive, said: 

“Moving the first MOT test to four years 

gives motorists the false perception that 

vehicles are more reliable when the data 

says otherwise. It also potentially means 

motorists face worsening problems, 

higher repair bills and more polluting 

vehicles if cars remain unchecked for 

longer periods.”

Location announced for 2023 Automechanika 

Birmingham Garage Awards hosted by IAAF 

The IAAF has announced that the Automechanika Birmingham 

Garage Awards 2023, hosted by the federation and headline 

sponsored by LKQ Euro Car Parts, will take place at Hilton 

Birmingham Metropole. 

Being held on Wednesday 7 June, the awards will celebrate 

the very best of the garage industry and acknowledge the 

commitment and dedication independent garages and 

technicians have made to ensuring affordable mobility in the UK 

over the past few years. 

There are eight award categories including: Garage of the Year, 

Best Independent Garage (Single-Site), Best Independent Garage 

(Multi-Site), Best Community initiative, ‘Auto-Mechanik’ of the 

year, Best marketing award, Best customer service award and the 

coveted Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Nominations for each award can be made by clicking the QR 

code below and criteria on each award can be found on the IAAF 

website and multiple entries will be accepted. 

Shortlisted companies/individuals will receive two free tickets 

to the awards evening at Hilton Birmingham Metropole at 6pm.

on issues such as access to repair and maintenance information, 

block exemption and, safeguarding the current MOT test

Industry braces for a rise in 

counterfeit lubricants due 

to cost-of-living crisis 

Rising costs are putting immense pressure on workshops and motorists alike to save money where 

they can. As a result, the industry trade body, the Verification of Lubricant Specifications (VLS), 

is expecting a rise in counterfeit lubricants as criminals look to cash in and sell cheaper alternatives 

to genuine products. 

“Counterfeiting affects many vehicle parts and accessories, 

and lubricants are no exception,” according to chairman Mike 

Bewsey. “Modern vehicle engines are highly complex. They 

require sophisticated lubricants using advanced chemistry, 

backed by the investment of millions of pounds, dollars or 

euros by major additive companies. These additive companies 

use extensive bench, laboratory or real-life engine testing to 

guarantee performance standards and safety. 

Although the vast majority of lubricants on the market are 

genuine, types of counterfeit oils might include: 

● Virgin base oil with a sub-standard additive pack or lower 

spec base oil being used 

● Virgin base oil with no additive pack at all 

● Used oil that has been repackaged and presented as new oil 

● Re-refined product that is unsuitable for its stated 

application 

● A lesser-spec oil presented as a premium specification 

Compared to standard formulations, counterfeit products might 

have fewer or even no additives at all. This can significantly 

affect the lubricant, resulting in poor or possibly even dangerous 

performance compared to genuine products. Just like using the 

wrong oil, using counterfeit oil could lead to accelerated wear in 

gears and bearings, the formation of lacquers on surfaces such

as pistons and the development of sludge that could restrict oil 

flow. All of which could lead to increased maintenance costs 

and, if left unchecked, eventual engine failure.” 

Cash-strapped motorists may also try to buy oil themselves 

to save money. With limited knowledge in such a technical 

area, they risk buying counterfeit oil online or from other 

unscrupulous sources, which isn’t what it purports to be. 

If a product looks too good to be true, 

it probably is! 

VLS is urging workshop owners, mechanics, technicians and end 

users alike to take a series of common-sense steps to reduce 

the risk of buying and using a counterfeit product: 

1. Purchase lubricants from reputable sources such as official 

distributors or well-regarded motor factors. Avoid purchasing 

finished lubricants from unofficial sources or less reputable 

internet sites where the source of the product is unclear. 

2. Avoid products that appear to be heavily discounted or are 

being sold in a hurry, such as ‘fire sales’ or ‘stock must go’ 

end-of-line promotions. 

3. Check for authentic marks on packaging, such as batch 

codes. Most reputable lubricant blenders use batch codes as 

part of their ISO quality assurance processes. If a product 

does not have a batch code or authentic serial number, there 

is a greater risk that it might not be genuine. 

4. If a lubricant manufacturer is claiming ACEA specifications, 

check to ensure that they are a signatory to the European 

Engine Lubricants Quality Management System Letter of 

conformance for lubricant manufacturers

6. Check any packaging and product labels carefully. Fraudsters 

will aim to maximise revenue at minimum cost, so they may use 

lower-quality packaging or labelling. Does the packaging look 

and feel of appropriate quality and as you would normally 

expect? Looking at the product label, is the spelling and use 

of grammar correct? Is the colour on the label an exact 

match against previously purchased authentic products or are 

the colours slightly washed out? Are the text and images clearly 

printed or a bit blurred and not as sharp and well-defined as 

they could be? 

7. Is the pack integrity supported by a tamper-evident seal that is 

evident? 

Ask for Technical and Safety Data Sheets. Reputable suppliers 

should have no problem producing these or advising you where 

to access them. Suppliers trying to pass off counterfeit lubricants 

may be evasive about providing this important information. 

Taking these simple steps can ensure counterfeit products 

don’t cause unnecessary breakdowns or damage your reputation.

report it to the independent trade body, the Verification of

specifications within the UK marketplace to ensure that lubricant 

products are fit for purpose and can deliver what they claim.

Unprecedented demand for 

Automechanika Birmingham 2023 

as registration ramps up 

Automechanika Birmingham, the UK’s 

largest automotive trade exhibition, 

has reported unprecedented 

visitor demand, as registration figures 

sit 112 percent higher amongst garage 

professionals than the same period before 

the event was last held in 2019. 

Taking place from 6th-8th June 2023 

at the National Exhibition Centre in 

Birmingham, the event will be the first 

Automechanika held in the UK since 2019, 

with exciting brands exhibiting including 

Bilstein Group, Bosch, Brembo, Castrol, 

Delphi, HELLA, LIQUI MOLY, MANN & 

HUMMEL and ZF Aftermarket. 

All visitor metrics for the event are 

currently surpassing figures set at the 

same point before the show was last 

held in the UK four years ago, with 

registrations from garages, autocentres, 

and MOT centres 112 percent higher, and 

168 percent more bodyshop and collision 

repair professionals now registered ahead 

of this time in 2019. 

The high registration figures ahead 

of Automechanika Birmingham 2023 

complement reports that spending on 

hotels, events and hospitality is returning 

to pre-pandemic levels. Attendances at 

exhibitions have risen with more events 

returning to in-person settings over virtual 

environments.

A couple of years 

ago I came across 

a new phrase: 

Know your WHY?

Know my what? Is it asking me why I work? That’s easy, 

I’ve got a wife & three kids, I need the money! Surely 

it’s not that simple, is it? No it means know why you 

do what you do, what is your driving force, what is it you 

enjoy? Why do you do the job/trade/career that you do? It’s 

not about family, kids, cost of living or the next big holiday. 

It’s not your partner or the big promotion you have your eye 

on. It’s who you are when you strip all the distractions away. 

I’ll go first. 

I love cars, full stop. I love looking at them, listening to them 

(except diesels), driving them. The independence they offer, 

their place of safety, that you can control the climate, the 

music, the passengers and the hygiene (or lack of). I love 

the engine, it’s why I wanted to become a mechanic in 

the first place. How it works, how it’s controlled, how it’s 

maintained and how it smells (except diesels). I love buying 

cars, cleaning them, photographing & selling them. 

I love how you feel after you’ve stitched together a series 

of bends into a perfect lap, or how you feel when you’ve 

cocked it up! I had a huge smash at Donnington one year, 

the car was un-drivable as I lost it & went into the pit 

entrance sideways! It hurt quite a bit, but my god did we 

have something to laugh about for months after! 

So for me, I couldn’t do any other job or be in any other 

trade. Yes bankers make loads of money & office workers 

have air conditioning. But I get to work outside all day, every 

day. I get to drive some lovely cars & some that make me 

think why would you? If it’s cold then we’ll close the door & 

maybe put the heater on if it’s really cold! 

I do what I want to do, every day. Yes I have tough days 

in the office & sometimes I wish I’d gone into a different 

trade. But usually by the end of the week, I’m back in love 

with four wheels. My life revolves around cars, which in turn 

means so does my families. My daughter didn’t go to Disney 

land when she was a baby, we took her to Donnington to 

see the Alfa’s taking on the Volvo & Vauxhalls of the day. Her 

favourite tee shirt was a red Alfa Romeo team shirt. 

The point I’m making is that my deep down DNA or 

essence is that I love the petrol engine & everything it 

offers me. I know it’s not environmentally friendly & that 

the future is electric. But back in the 70’s the only electric 

vehicle was the milk float, it didn’t have a V8 or get to 60. I 

grew up looking at old Jaguars, big Rovers and oil leaks on 

every drive way. BMW’s were seen once a week if you lived 

in a big town or city. Now we have no Rovers & BMW’s are 

on every street in every town, village or hamlet. I still love 

the car game, I’m just not terribly excited about the future. 

Once you understand your WHY, you’ll be able to find a 

job/career that suits you better. If you don’t know who you 

are, how can you find a career that’s rewarding? Don’t like 

being tied to a desk? Become a mechanic, it’s the best job 

in the world…..almost!

launches new trade 

website 

Arnold Clark Autoparts has begun rolling out its new trade 

website, meaning customers in Glasgow can now access 

the group’s wide product range, 24 hours a day. 

The release of the new e-commerce platform for the trade 

revolutionises Arnold Clark Autoparts’ customer experience and 

is the latest innovation in the company’s digital roadmap that is 

set to maximise efficiency between Arnold Clark Autoparts and 

its customers. 

The website allows users to browse parts and compare pricing 

options, and see which parts are available for any vehicle using 

the vehicle registration look up tool. 

Craig McCracken, group factor manager at Arnold Clark 

Autoparts, said: “The new website is an invaluable tool for our 

trade customers looking to maximise efficiency, allowing them 

to arrange delivery of the parts needed for the following day. 

“The go-live of the new site is the latest step in a series of 

innovations we’re working on to help our customers, and really 

make the most of the digital tools available that help us serve 

our customers in a quicker way. Waiting on hold to see if certain 

parts are available is now a thing of the past. 

“We have a huge range of aftermarket products available 

online, but customers can benefit from our strong relationships 

with many manufacturers. We have access to parts stock from 

any vehicle manufacturers not represented on the site but who 

are within the Arnold Clark group,” McCracken comments. 

The trade website offers customers a live chat feature, 

meaning support is just a click away. Customers can use the 

feature to check stock levels of a product or receive fitment 

advice. 

Sales through Arnold Clark Autoparts’ new trade website can 

be attributed to customers’ existing trade accounts or paid for 

by card. Qualifying transactions can earn customers A-Points, 

which rewards garages for their spend. With an increased range 

of available qualifying products, garages can quickly accrue 

A-Points to spend on the latest tech, holidays, and cinema trips. 

The new trade website is currently available for Arnold Clark 

Autoparts Glasgow customers and will be coming to other 

branches soon.

TruTac unveil new tools for improved 

fleet management at CV Show 

TruTac, part of the Microlise Group, 

will be presenting new modules and 

product features within their range of 

fleet management and compliance control 

software, at this year’s CV Show at the 

NEC. For the first time they will be hosting 

a shared stand with their parent company 

Microlise. 

Headlining the new modules is TruFleet Workshop: 

designed to improve asset management and 

maintenance planning. The new tool enables TruFleet 

users to upgrade to a range of new workshop-focussed 

features, with the facility to create bespoke templates for all 

vehicle needs - including inspections, repairs, servicing, MOTs 

and associated costs. 

Templates for TruFleet Workshop are fully customisable, 

easily edited and cloned and can be used for trucks and trailers 

or any other fleet asset. Plus, say TruTac, for improving audit 

trail transparency, operators can choose sign-off levels with up 

to 3 independent signatures e.g., for technician, rectification 

second signature and manager’s signature. 

Visitors to the show can also see a series of newly released 

features which apply to various Microlise products, enabling 

operators to have simultaneous product access and smooth 

data integration. 

TruTac customers users can view the Microlise tracking 

system within TruTac’s TruControl tachograph analysis and 

reporting software. Following a major new release and product 

update, users can now see their vehicles’ location and 

associated information within the platform, giving them an 

instant overview of all their fleet’s data in one single place. 

Tracking and location information can be viewed on three 

different pages of the TruControl system: the Charts page, 

which displays the vehicle’s job status, including Rest, POA, or 

Other Work; the Vehicle Maintenance Calendar page, and the 

Unknown Drivers page, which shows vehicle movements. 

Also on show, for instant access to fleet documentation, 

comes TruDocuments Premium. The handy tool allows 

customers to make the likes of policies, handbooks, 

certificates, and other vital literature directly available to 

drivers via the TruTac app. When published, the documents are 

instantly available to all employees with access to the app, or to 

a portion of the workforce of the operator’s choosing or even 

individuals. 

The system also creates a clear audit trail by highlighting 

when documents have been sent, opened, returned, and 

signed. It is significantly more efficient than using physical paper 

documents, faster, more transparent, and more secure than 

email.

Roy Nutt returns as NTDA 

Northern Ireland Chairman 

The NTDA is delighted to announce that Jon Culshaw will be 

co-hosting the 2023 Tyre Industry Awards sponsored by Sailun Tyres. 

Jon is seen by many as being Britain’s best impressionist with a 

repertoire of over 350 voices covering politics, sport and celebrity 

from Boris Johnson to Alan Carr, Brian Cox to Barack Obama and 

Russell Crowe to Michael McIntyre. Originally a DJ, Jon won a Radio 

1 talent contest and joined the team on the seminal television satire 

Spitting Image. He played 40 characters, including Frank Bruno, 

Michael Portillo, Bill Clinton and Liam Gallagher. Jon then became 

‘the man of a thousand voices’ on Channel 4’s Big Breakfast before 

returning to radio where he made international headlines by calling 

the Downing Street switchboard and fooling the operators with his 

William Hague impression. After being put through to Tony Blair, the 

incident was raised at Prime Minister’s Questions and reported in 

Hansard. 

With an unmatched versatility, Jon found mainstream success 

with the radio and TV show Dead Ringers leading to his own BBC 

series; The Impressionable Jon Culshaw, which was followed by 

Jon Culshaw’s Commercial Breakdown and The Impressions Show 

with Culshaw and Stephenson. He is a regular guest on radio and 

TV comedy and chat shows and frequently appears on election 

coverage, providing necessary comic relief with impromptu 

impressions of politicians and commentators. Away from comedy, 

Jon’s love of science and astronomy have seen him join the world’s 

longest running television programme; The Sky at Night, as well as 

writing a column, Jon Culshaw’s Exoplanet Excursions, for the show’s 

magazine. He has also appeared alongside Brian Cox on Stargazing 

Live and The Infinite Monkey Cage. 

Roy Nutt of WH Nutt & Son, who was installed as an NTDA Honorary 

Life Member for his many years of service to the NTDA and the tyre 

trade in Northern Ireland (NI) in 2019, has been elected as NTDA NI 

Chairman, a position he is all-too-familiar with, having previously 

served in the chair for many years until 2015. Roy was elected 

unanimously at a very well-attended NI member’s meeting held 

at the Maldron Hotel, Belfast International Airport, on Thursday 

23rd February and replaced fellow Honorary Life Member Dasos 

Michaelides who served in the chair for 8 years. 

Roy said that his priorities as chair are; to work with NTDA 

Head Office, and members locally, to raise awareness of both the 

NTDA and tyre safety in NI by running various campaigns, to grow 

membership, to attract more younger people into the tyre trade 

and to ensure member meetings and events such as the NTDA NI 

Ladies Night and NI Tyre Industry Awards are well-supported. 

Based on past experience, Roy means business and based on his 

favourite saying: “YOUR SAFETY IS OUR BUSINESS”, is certainly set 

to deliver!

Historical Archive on website 

The Association has launched a historical archive on its website: 

www.ntda.co.uk, which will be available to its members as part 

of their member benefits offering and complements the existing 

members only Technical Service Bulletin section. 

The archive will eventually feature the entire historical archive 

of the Association dating back to 1930, including bulletins, (such 

as the example shown from October 1945), newsletters, tyre 

safety campaign collateral, research documents, annual dinner 

and conference programmes, photos and much, much more. 

Stefan Hay said: “The NTDA’s history, is the history of the 

tyre trade and associated aftermarket, it is fascinating and 

demonstrates our pedigree as the voice of the tyre trade. It 

documents the role the NTDA and its members played during 

WW2, other world conflicts, several recessions, many further 

major world events and in setting standards, introducing 

training, licensing and in professionalising tyre distribution in the 

UK. 

Over the years, and with our member’s assistance, we have 

been able to build up an incredible archive of materials which 

continues to grow, as members and their families thankfully 

persist in returning historical documents, images and other 

items to the Association and as we also recover items from 

sites such as eBay. We are now digitalising everything and the 

plan is to ensure our history is preserved and always available to 

our members, whether they are interested from an Association, 

tyre trade or purely historical point of view. It will also be a 

great resource for members with an interest in genealogy and 

their tyre trade family history.”

Our cars have been using various 

forms of ADAS for years. From ABS 

and electronic stability programs, 

to adaptive cruise control, our vehicles 

have been silently helping us to enjoy a 

safer driving experience. As the technology 

has developed, ISN Garage Assist has 

been at the forefront of ADAS calibration. 

Technical Director, Mark Bristow gives 

his thoughts on how the technology has 

developed and why ADAS alignment is so 

important. 

“These days, ADAS is being integrated 

with other vehicle systems to take safety 

and comfort for road users to another 

level - you would be hard pushed to find 

a new car that didn’t have some sort of 

ADAS system and, at ISN Garage Assist, 

we believe that ADAS alignment is set 

to become as common place as wheel 

alignment. 

ADAS allows the technology and 

systems in our cars to warn the driver of 

hazards or even take control of braking 

and steering systems when a driver is 

distracted and has not responded to a 

potential danger. It does this through a 

range of technologies, which do vary, 

depending on how advanced the system is 

but, in simple terms, ADAS generally uses 

a camera system, usually mounted at the 

top of the windscreen, to read road signs, 

alert the driver to changing speed limits 

and monitor the white lines on the road, 

helping to correct a car’s course; and a 

radar system, often mounted in the front 

grill area, which takes the longer view, 

using its abilities to manage active cruise 

control and emergency braking systems. 

To work effectively ADAS systems 

need to receive accurate information; 

they need to be aligned to the path of 

the vehicle and to see what the driver is 

seeing. 

When something changes on a car 

that affects what the ADAS systems 

are seeing, you need to ensure that 

the ADAS alignment is checked and

adjusted. This might be after you’ve 

replaced a broken spring, or damaged 

suspension component; it might be just 

badly misaligned wheels. Windscreen 

replacement is another area to be 

considered; generally the camera will 

be removed as part of the process, so 

ensuring it is correctly aligned after repair 

is vital. It’s also essential that a significant 

chassis repair is done in conjunction with 

the correct jig – even a gentle frontal 

impact that ‘doesn’t look too bad’ can 

seriously misalign the radar unit. 

If you’re a garage that has undertaken 

a repair that could affect ADAS but you 

don’t have the equipment to check and 

adjust it, you have a duty of care to 

your customer to advise them to get it 

checked. Better still, when quoting the 

repair, include checking and realigning 

the ADAS as part of the repair. Insurance 

companies are becoming very interested 

in ADAS functionality when investigating 

accident claims. If ADAS misalignment 

is deemed a contributing factor in an 

accident, make sure you’re not liable. 

The most profitable way to provide 

ADAS alignment checks is to have your 

own equipment – why would you want 

to give business to a competitor? But 

we appreciate that buying a state of 

the art ADAS calibration unit is a major

offering, specialist Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) 

calibration equipment and thermal management systems at 

Kinetic 2023, held at Telford International Centre on 22nd – 

23rd March. 

Visitors were able to hear more about MAHLE Service 

Solutions, a MAHLE Aftermarket division, specialising in 

developing, manufacturing, and distributing automotive 

services, tools, and maintenance equipment, including 

vehicle diagnostics, AC service, fluid exchange, hydraulic and 

pneumatic lift equipment, ozone generation, and nitrogen tire 

inflation systems. 

There was also keen interest around MAHLE’s revolutionary 

digital solutions now entering the market, with a team of 

specialists on hand to discuss its MAHLE Tech PRO® Digital 

ADAS for the calibration of driver assistance systems, as well 

as the the latest generation of the ACX A/C service unit series 

and the ATX transmission oil service unit series. 

Visitors learnt how the ongoing development of the Digital 

ADAS 2.0 shortens the calibration time even further and 

enables calibration in a few minutes. 

Thanks to special laser distance gauges, which are 

connected directly to the diagnostic tool, the TechPRO® 

Digital ADAS 2.0 can record all parameters of the vehicle 

alignment directly so that the calibration can be performed 

without manual input. 

The system, which ensures universal coverage, can also be 

constantly updated and integrated with those vehicles that will 

progressively adopt one or several ADAS systems. 

As a tier one supplier, MAHLE’s OE thermal management 

product offering provides the ideal solution for the collision 

repair market, and the company was able to demonstrate its 

wide range of systems, including its range of blower motors, 

condensers, evaporators, compressors and more. 

For bodyshop and collision repair specialists, the 

maintenance of thermal management systems in hybrid and 

electric vehicles will become what used to be the regular 

oil change. That is why MAHLE Aftermarket is offering not 

only a growing range of components but also accompanying 

service equipment, training, and digital information solutions. 

The company is thus preparing the sector for the future and 

helping them with the switch to repairing alternative drive 

systems.

Schaeffler has updated its REPXPERT Bonus 

Shop to give members an even better range 

of merchandise to choose from, along with 

the promise of monthly special offers to 

tempt mechanics even further. 

From a garage perspective, loyalty 

programmes are an important part 

of the customer experience, so the 

announcement is good news for REPXPERT 

members that wish to take advantage of the 

bonus points they collect by scanning the

“Among the new products are a recycled

The Bonus Shop is integrated into 

Schaeffler’s REPXPERT service platform, 

which is available via a dedicated webpage 

as well as a free app for iOS and Android 

mobile devices. It is designed to equip 

mechanics with the information they need 

to make repairs simpler, safer and more 

professional, with instant easy access to 

data, thanks to the OneCode product 

labelling system. 

“Schaeffler boxes include a QR code 

which is unique to the product inside the 

box,” Earl continued. “Technicians can use 

the REPXPERT app scanning function to 

scan the QR code on the label of any LuK, 

INA or FAG product to go straight to the 

product information, check the authenticity 

of the components, or add bonus points to 

their account. 

“They also need to remember that this 

year we’re going to turn three REPXPERT 

members into ‘Bonus Point Millionaires’, 

with every LuK OneCode scanned between 

February and April earning one entry into 

the first prize draw in May.”

Eurorepar Car Service has 

announced the appointment of Chris 

Jones to the role of Head of Network 

& Business Development 

At the helm of Eurorepar’s 218-strong network of garages, 

Jones will be responsible for leading a team of recruitment 

and area managers to drive network growth and ensure that 

existing centres derive maximum benefit from their membership. 

Jones brings 27 years’ aftermarket experience to the position, 

boasting a varied skillset developed in a range of senior technical 

and aftersales positions. With a CV that includes periods as a 

Master Technician for Alfa Romeo and Technical & Aftersales Trainer 

for FCA, Jones was also a Dealer Quality Manager at FCA, before 

taking his most recent position as Aftersales Zone Manager and 

Team Leader at Stellantis. 

Among Jones’ strengths is the valuable knowledge and skills he 

gained running an independent garage in the early stages of his 

career. Spending three years at the helm of a two-bay MOT, repair 

and service workshop, Jones experienced first-hand the challenges 

and requirements of running a small business in the automotive 

aftermarket. 

“I am excited to be taking the next step in my career to assume 

responsibility for growing the Eurorepar Car Service network,” said 

Chris Jones. “Motor trade professionals are facing tough market 

conditions, but I firmly believe there is an opportunity for shrewd 

businesses to adapt and turn a healthy profit. 

“Over the course of my career, I have worked in a variety of 

technical and operational aftersales roles. Combined with my 

experience running an independent garage, I think this gives me a 

strong base from which to take the Eurorepar network to the next 

level. I am motivated to work alongside my team to ensure that our 

existing centres and new ones alike can grow their businesses and 

compete in our rapidly changing industry.” 

Chris Jones replaces Nick Taylor, who has held the post of 

General Manager of Eurorepar Car Service for the last two years. 

Taylor remains at Stellantis, having accepted the post of Head of

Sales Manager Scotland & Northern

Martin will be travelling throughout 

Scotland and Northern Ireland 

visiting motor factors to developing 

relationships with them and naturally 

discuss the needs they have for their 

businesses. 

Helpfully, Martin has vast knowledge 

on the sector and understands first 

hand what customers often need, 

as he spent 19 years in a workshop 

environment, starting off his career as 

an apprentice in the motor trade and 

working his way up to the role of centre 

manager before venturing into the 

energy industry, as an engineer. 

Martin said: “As I still have many 

contacts from the motor trade, I 

heard through word of mouth that 

the position at Ring was available. My 

reason for taking the job was twofold, 

first, I had a good knowledge of the 

products Ring offered from my career 

in the aftermarket and second I was 

looking to take on a new challenge, and 

this role suited me perfectly!

credibility in the industry. It’s also the
