Are You Doing Too Much for Your Teen?<br />
There was a time when eighteen-year-olds left home to pursue post-secondary education or to work. They were<br />
not considered adults because they were eighteen, but rather because they were living as adults.<br />

Things have changed and many young<br />
people live at home well into their<br />
twenties. There can be many reasons<br />
for this, but one is that it is simply too<br />
comfortable to leave.<br />
It seems easy for parents to still feel a<br />
need to do so much for their children as<br />
they may not have noticed they are not<br />
“children” anymore. That or the parents<br />
are clinging too tightly to their young<br />
adult children as they are not ready to<br />
give up the parenting role.<br />
I have worked with parents who still do<br />
their teens laundry, do all the grocery<br />
shopping and preparing meals, even<br />
making the kid’s lunches. Often the<br />
parents may pay for the child’s gas and<br />
give spending money. Who would want<br />
to leave?<br />
This is not so much about getting<br />
young adults out of the house, as it<br />
is about helping them learn to do the<br />
things adults do to care for themselves.<br />
Learning to clean the house, empty<br />
the garbage, deal with the recycling,<br />
grocery shopping, preparing meals and,<br />
of course, doing their own laundry. It<br />
is also an important life experience to<br />
have a part time job if still in school.<br />
My son started doing his own laundry<br />
when he was nine as his non “Suzy<br />
homemaker” mom turned all of his underwear<br />
pink! In our house the expectations<br />
were according to age and ability.<br />
From an early age they had chores, even<br />
if it was simply putting toys away when<br />
very young.<br />
By age eleven they were each making<br />
one meal a week, and it was understood<br />
that once they had a driver’s license,<br />
grocery shopping was on their list. This<br />
included checking to see what was needed,<br />
making a list, getting the groceries<br />
and putting them away.<br />
By the time they went off to university,<br />
they were fully functional adults, and<br />
when home, we all got groceries together<br />
and they kept pointing out when I<br />
was not making the most economical<br />
choice. As students they became very<br />
good at spending wisely.<br />
Not allowing young adults to take these<br />
responsibilities is enabling, even though<br />
it often comes from a place of love and<br />
wanting to make life easier for them. It<br />
can even be handicapping, especially<br />
when they are still at home in their late<br />
twenties. At that age it can be very hard<br />
to start being an adult, when they could<br />
have had ten years of practice by then.<br />
Twenties quickly turn into thirties!<br />
If we wait too long to give them adult responsibilities,<br />
there is a good chance we<br />
will get pushback. Remember, a family<br />
is a team, and everyone should contribute<br />
to the wellbeing of the whole.<br />

The Rural Municipality of Last Mountain Valley No. 250<br />
PUBLIC NOTICE<br />
Public Notice is hereby given that the Rural Municipality of Last Mountain Valley No. 250<br />
pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act 2007, intends to adopt a<br />
bylaw to amend the Zoning Bylaw No. 219/2001.<br />
It is proposed to amend the Zoning Bylaw 219/2001 as follows:<br />
1. By amending Zoning District Map #1 to rezone the NE of Section 11 Township 25 Range<br />
22 West of the 2nd Meridian from “Agricultural” (A) to “Commercial District” (C); and<br />
identify it as “Insert 7”.<br />
2. Insert 7 will include all the land shown within the bold line on the map forming a part of<br />
this notice.<br />
The reason for the proposed amendment is to permit the construction and operation of a<br />
Fertilizer plant.<br />
The Bylaw may be inspected by any interested person at the Municipal Office in Govan<br />
during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 pm. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30<br />
p.m. excluding statutory holidays. Copies are available at cost.<br />
Council will hold a public hearing on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the Municipal Office Council<br />
Chambers at 10:00 a.m. to hear any person or group that wants to comment on the<br />
proposed bylaw. Council will also consider any written submissions received at the hearing,<br />
or delivered to the undersigned before the hearing.<br />

RM of Dufferin 190 is accepting applications for a full time Grader Operator.<br />
QUALIFICATIONS:<br />
• Must poses a valid driver’s licence and have<br />
their own transportation.<br />
• Have knowledge of grader operation and<br />
service.<br />
• Have a working knowledge of road building<br />
and maintenance.<br />
• Have a full working knowledge of grading<br />
techniques.<br />
• Must be capable of working with a minimum<br />
or without supervision.<br />
DUTIES:<br />
• Operate equipment and work in compliance<br />
with the Saskatchewan Employment Act<br />
and the Occupational Health and Safety<br />
Regulations.<br />
• Maintain and repair all roads on a priority basis<br />
as required by road conditions.<br />
• Blade all roads in a professional and safe<br />
manner.<br />
• Service machinery and assist in repairs as the<br />
case may be.<br />
• Do work as per the road maintenance<br />
schedule or as directed by the Foreman.<br />
• Work hours as per schedule and additional<br />
hours as per Policy 400-2.1.1.<br />
• Road maintenance personnel are required to<br />
work 10 hour per day during certain seasons.<br />
