Welcome
I find myself writing this introduction after the county
has been buffeted by a particularly aggressive April storm
making it difficult to imagine the balmy days of May and
June that are hopefully on the horizon! With a busy Easter
behind you and the summer madness ahead, I hope you
will find a moment to pause and flick through the fantastic
offers we have available.
On May 5th we’ll be celebrating Sauvignon Blanc
Day by raising a glass of the nation’s favourite tipple.
Sauvignon often makes excellent and diverse styles of
wine as discussed later in this brochure, yet I always enjoy
encouraging people to branch out from their usual and
try something a bit different. Take a look at our ‘Off the
Beaten Path’ feature, Terrazzo Falanghina makes a fantastic
alternative to Pinot Grigio and Miopasso Fiano is ideal for
those willing to branch out from the safety of Sauvignon.
Offering alternatives to our most popular wines can be an
effective way to improve margin and guest experience,
it’s an interaction that can differentiate you from your
competitors and when done well can make a good evening
even more memorable.
On Saturday May 6th we look forward to another long
weekend where our local communities will celebrate the
King’s Coronation which gives us ample excuse to open a
bottle of home-grown fizz. It’s a great opportunity to offer
higher value wines by the glass and make the most of our
patriotic desire to buy local. We have three wines on offer
from Cornwall to Kent and many more available.

superlative winemaking skills and unflagging
commitment to promote the exclusiveness of
Champagne wines and establish their reputation
worldwide. Despite this status, Joseph Perrier remains a
small and modest producer with a focus on consistency
of quality. Their cellars in Châlons-en-Champagne were
built in the 1820s before electric light, so natural sunlight
was beamed underground using mirrors placed at the
bottom of deep shafts, and this system is in place to
this day.

Charles Smith Eve Chardonnay | USA
Charles Smith started the core collection of Charles Smith
Wines in 2006 with the goal of creating high-quality,
varietal specific wines true to their place of origin, and at

lot of energy. Hibiscus flower, stone fruit, apple blossom &
a touch of lemon cream. A long savoury finish.

Felines Jourdon Picpoul de Pinet | France
A French classic, this Picpoul is perfect for sharing with
friends or as a partner to shellfish. The grapes come from
a parcel named "Félines", the closest to the Thau Lagoon.
The wine has beautiful aromatic flavours of apple and
pear, zesty lime and a hint of chamomile. It is a classy
picpoul; light and lively with a streak of minerality.

Villa Dei Fiori Primitivo | Italy
Generous and fruity Primitivo, this wine is rich, intensely

What I’m
drinking...
Now that the sun has shown its face
(albeit briefly) the race to get barbecue
ready is on, so now is the time to think
about the perfect wine to serve.
At the top of my list is the Azabache Reserva,
great with really sticky ribs, steak, chops, burgers,
cheeses and lots more. It is oozing with juicy dark
fruits, vanilla, spice and of course oak ageing. I
suggest you pour yourself a glass, sit back and relax
whilst the marinating commences.
Marinade for sticky rib recipe / 35 mins
500g carton passata
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 tbsp reduced-salt soy sauce
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1kg small, lean pork ribs
3 tbsp honey
