ASSISTED LIVING/ADULT CARE HOME FACILITIES<br />

The <strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong> Department of Social Services (DSS) works with the state to license and<br />
monitor local adult care (also known as assisted living) long-term care facilities. To report a complaint<br />
or for general information, call <strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong> DSS at (919) 245-2800 (ask for the adult<br />
home specialist) or the state Division of Health Service Regulation at (800) 624-3004. You may<br />
also contact your local Regional Ombudsman, or resident advocate at (919) 558-9401.<br />
Assisted Living Federation of America<br />
Includes a suggested checklist for facilities on its website at www.alfa.org.<br />
Assisted Living/Adult Care Homes<br />
Provide private or semi-private rooms and services such as three meals a day, assistance with<br />
personal care, medications, activities, and transportation. Contact your <strong>County</strong> Department of<br />
Social Services or your ombudsman about particular facilities.<br />
Family Care Homes (See; Family Care Homes Section)<br />
Are licensed for a maximum of six unrelated residents.<br />
<strong>Orange</strong> <strong>County</strong> Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee<br />
The committee visits facilities and reports its findings at least quarterly. Their reports can be<br />
found at www.co.orange.nc.us/aging. Additional information can be obtained by calling the<br />
Ombudsman at (919) 558-9401. The Division of Health Service Regulation also checks the<br />
adequacy of adult care homes. Adult Care Homes are monitored bimonthly by the <strong>County</strong><br />
Department of Social Services.<br />
