In this special summer edition of the Library newsletter, you will 

find all the tools you need to participate in Summer Reading. 

Track your daily reading on the calendars here and collect prizes 

throughout the summer. Participants don’t need to worry about 

a minimum number of words or minutes. Make reading a joyful 

part of your summer vacation! 

This newsletter also features our entire calendar of events and 

programs in June and July. We invite all ages to start the summer 

strong by attending our Summer Reading Kickoff Party on 

June 1 at Buena Vista Branch Library, featuring live music from 

the Jazz Cartel. You won’t want to miss two great events in June 

celebrating the 100th anniversaries of The Walt Disney Company 

and Warner Bros., two major studios that have been 

instrumental in the history of Burbank and so much a part of 

defining American culture. 

In addition to the regular monthly programs you love, staff have 

added exciting opportunities for you to explore. Register for 

Kinder-Steps, an interactive program series to help prepare your 

child to start Kindergarten. Stop by History MAKERS each week 

and learn about a not-so-well-known historical figure through 

hands-on STEM activities. Attend a Creator Café for teens, 

featuring conversations and activities about the creative industry. 

Mindful Yoga for Families encourages school-age children and 

their families to improve their stress management skills together.

The Story of Disney: 100 Years of Wonder

Archives present a celebration of Disney’s 100th Anniversary and explore 

the storied history of Disney’s creative and imaginative film production, 

its leadership and innovation in film technology, and its contributions to 

family entertainment. 

Author Bruce C. Steele and his fellow creators of Disney’s The Story of Disney: 

100 Years of Wonder share how they fit 100 years of history into one book that 

tells the engaging story! Share your own favorite Disney moments and connect 

with fellow attendees. 

Copies of The Story of Disney: 100 Years of Wonder will be available for sale 

from the Friends of the Burbank Public Library. A book signing will follow the panel discussion.

Registration required — The history of Warner Bros. is not just the tale of 

a legendary film studio and its unforgettable stars, but of Hollywood itself. 

Perhaps more than any other studio, Warner Bros. films chronicled American 

life in the last century, both its trials and triumphs. George Feltenstein, the 

preeminent authority on the history of Warner Bros., will tell you how the 

studio led the industry in exploring new subjects and innovations in 

filmmaking. Come and share with us your favorite Warner Bros. moments! 

Copies of Warner Bros.: 100 Years of Storytelling by Mark A. Vieira will 

be available for sale from the Friends of the Burbank Public Library. 

George Feltenstein, WarnerMedia Library Historian 

George Feltenstein joined Time Warner in 1997 to lead initiatives involving 

the company’s classic film and television library. He continues to be integrally 

involved with Warner Archive’s ongoing efforts, as part of his role as Warner Bros. 

Discovery Library Historian. In 2005, the National Board of Review presented him 

with the William K. Everson Award for his ongoing contribution to film preservation.

Girls Who Code - a coding club for grades 3 - 5

Registration required — Our 3rd-5th grade club is free to join and spans 11-weeks to 

develop coding skills. We will read excerpts from Learn to Code and Change the World and 

The Friendship Code, learn how to code by completing fun and simple online coding tutorials, 

and build community through interactive club activities. Consistent attendance is very important. 

Baby Party! - for babies under 12 months and their caregivers

Baby Party! is an informal place to read, play, explore and make new friends.
