(DTU)
The following chapter will give you a short
introduction to the Technical University of
Denmark (DTU). It contains an overview of the
academic programmes offered. You will also find
a description of the services and facilities
available for students (Danish and foreigners) at
DTU. For more information, please visit our Web
site www.dtu.dk.
Profile
The Technical University of Denmark (DTU),
founded in 1829, is currently Denmark’s leading
centre for engineering education and research. It
has about 9,500 students, researchers, faculty
and staff and an annual budget of about DKK 1.2
billion (about USD 195 million or Euro 161
million). DTU’s campus is located in a suburb 10
km north of the centre of Copenhagen - and about
5 km from the sea.
National and international collaboration
DTU invests a great deal in working together with
industry in Denmark and abroad: more than onehalf
of DTU’s budget is funded by sources outside
the University. DTU has been heavily involved in
international research throughout most of its
history. Today the University has many research
contacts in highly regarded academic
establishments all over the world and participates
in a large number of important national and
international research programmes.
DTU is at the forefront when it comes to
internationalising its study programmes. We have
exchange agreements with universities all over
the world, e.g. in the Nordic countries, EU
member countries, North and South America,
8
Africa, Asia and Australia. A large number of the
regular courses are taught in English.
Each year the University accepts approximately
400 exchange students and 100 MSc students
from all over the world and sends 250-300 Danish
students abroad.
