The license to carry a gun
allows the license holder to
carry his/her registered gun. In
this case, it is possible to carry
the weapon with the person or
to keep it in their vehicle. Since
the license to carry a weapon
will also permit the licensing
of the bullets of the relevant
weapon, it will be possible to
carry an appropriate number
of bullets in the weapon or
with it. Carrying high-volume
bullets is only possible with
the permission of the Turkish
governor. According to the
types of weapons licenses, the
number of bullets that can be
possessed during the year is
determined.
What Are the Documents
Required for a Gun License in
Turkey?
• Original and copy of identity
card Passport
• Photo taken in the last six
months
• Residence Permit
• Transcript of Criminal
Records
• A document to be obtained
from the tax office stating that
there is no tax debt exceeding a
certain amount, provided that
it has been received within the
last 15 days as of the date of
application,
• Health committee report to
be obtained from state hospitals
is requested.
In addition to these
documents, other important
documents are also required in
applications for a gun carrying
license. It is obligatory to
purchase weapons within one
year as of the date of obtaining
the license and to operate the
license within 60 days at the
latest as of the date of receipt.
The gun license renewal process
must be carried out every five
years.
What Are the Weapons
Requiring Licenses in Turkey?
According to Turkish law,
Regulation No. 2735 on
Firearms and Knives and Other
Tools defines the types of
weapons that require a license.
Firearms that require a license
according to the relevant
regulation are:
• Pistol
• Fully Automatic Weapons
• Fluted shotgun
Although different types
of licenses are required in
practice for different types of
weapons, the application for
gun licenses for all firearms
will include similar stages. If
the conditions for obtaining a
weapon license specified in the
relevant regulation are met, an
application for a weapon license
can be made.

Law enforcement in Turkey
is carried out by several
departments and agencies,
all acting under the Ministry
of Internal Affairs except
military police which is under
the command of the Turkish
Armed Forces and the National
Intelligence Organization
which reports directly to the
President.
General Directorate of Security
The General Directorate of
Security are the civilian police
force and a service branch
of the Turkish Ministry of
Interior accountable for law
enforcement in Turkey. The
police force is responsible for
law enforcement in cities and
some special locations, such as
airports or border checkpoints,
which are responsible for
passport control. The police are
often helped by the customs
office. Traffic Police ensure the
safety of transportation and
also work with registration of
vehicles. Police also provides
VIP security for president and
other government officials. The
Turkish Police also play a big
part in important intelligence
and counter-terrorist operations.
