Lumineq aims to
stand out
Lumineq, the Finnish transparent display company, offers manufacturers a high-performance
display to allow their scopes to jump out from the crowd, as Gun Trade World discovers.
Although founded
in 2021, the
infrastructure
and experts
behind Lumineq
Oy have a strong history
in display technology.
Lumineq transparent
displays are based on Thin
Film Electroluminescent
Display technology, which
has been known for decades.
The development and
manufacturing of TFEL
displays started in the 1980s
by Lohja Oy in Espoo,
Finland, under the Finlux
brand. The business was
sold to Planar systems in
1992 and then to Beneq in
2012. Beneq continued to
develop TFEL technology
under the Lumineq brand
and introduced a transparent
variant of the technology.
In 2021, the group company
considered it necessary to
establish Lumineq Oy as an
independent company, under
its parent company, Beneq
Group Oy, to solely focus on
its transparent display business,
strengthen its own brand, and
serve its customers better. In
the October of 2021 Petri
Schroderus was appointed
President of Lumineq and it
was announced that Beneq
Group Oy will have full
ownership of the subsidiary,
providing services and financial
support.
“The new arrangement will
clarify structure, improve
business focus and enhance
leadership,” said Jukka
Nieminen, CEO of Beneq
Group.
“Beneq will continue its
accelerated global growth in
semiconductor ALD and other
advanced ALD applications,
while Lumineq continues to
focus on opportunities within
the automotive and optical
segments, supplying the most
transparent displays in the
world,” Nieminen said.
Fast-forward to 2023 and
the company is quickly gaining
traction with scope and night
vision device customers. Its 75
members of staff are working
hard to grow the brand globally
and produce recticle displays
for the growing scope and
night vision scope markets.
“We already have leading
scope and night vision device
customers who believe in
our technology and worked
closely with us for their
product development,” says
Jere Manninen, Head of Sales,
Lumineq.
Key technology
The Lumineq display
technology stands out from
the crowd in a number of ways.
Firstly, the company provides
a simplified solution – its
emissive transparent display
technology can be placed
directly to the line of sight,
meaning no projection system
is needed.
The optical quality is
excellent, with over 90 per cent
of transmission and for devices
with high magnification or
scopes with first focal plane
reticles, the graphic content
can go down to 4µm details.
When it comes to durability
the inorganic and solid-state
structure makes it immune
to environmental factors
like humidity, temperature,
shock, and vibration. The
