The display by King Charles’
guards when they paid
tribute to Tina Turner at
Buckingham Palace said it
all that, indeed, the rock ‘n’ roll
legend is the best!
Fans of the great singer and
performer were surprised to see
King Charles and the royal honour
the 83-year-old rock ‘n’ roll legend
with a performance of her 1989
hit by the Band of the Welsh
Guards outside Buckingham
Palace during the changing of
the guard on Friday in London.
A heartwarming video of the
surprising tribute was shared on
Twitter by the Forces News via its
verified handle.
The 45-minute ceremony,
which is performed daily, involves
the King’s Guard handing over
responsibility to the New Guard
for the protection of Buckingham
and St. James’ Palace.
The 1st Battalion Welsh Guards
Corps of Drums accompanied
the Welsh Guards. Turner’s
song, which peaked at No. 15
on the Billboard Hot 100 chart,
has meaning for Prince William,
Charles’ eldest son.
In 2021, the Princes of Wales
recalled how his mother, Princess
Diana, would play music for
William and Prince Harry “to kind
of while away the anxiety of
going back to (boarding) school,”
he told Apple’s Time to Walk
podcast.
“And one of the songs I
massively remember and has
stuck with me all this time, and
I still, to this day, still quite enjoy
secretly, is Tina Turner’s ‘The Best’
because sitting in the backseat,
singing away, it felt like a real
family moment. And my mother,
she’d be driving along, singing at
the top of her voice. ... And when
I listen to it now, it takes me back
to those car rides and brings
back lots of memories of my
mother.” He said at the time.

The singer, born Anna Mae
Bullock in Tennessee, began
performing in the 1950s when she
was still in high school.
After meeting her first husband,
Ike Turner, and his ensemble
band, the Kings of Rhythm, she
was catapulted into stardom as
the Ike & Tina Turner Revue.
By the 1980s, when she had
filed for divorce and embarked
on a solo career, Turner was an
unparalleled music icon and had
been given the Queen of Rock’ n’
Roll moniker.
Her many accolades
include:
• Two spots in the Rock
& Roll Hall of Fame (she was
inducted with Ike Turner in 1991
and as a solo artist in 2021).
• A star on the Hollywood
Walk of Fame.
• A lifetime-achievement
award from the Recording
Academy.
• Eight Grammys.
She was also a trailblazer and
became the first Black artist and
woman on the cover of Rolling
Stone.
Wealth and Worth
Turner’s wealth was estimated
at 225 million Swiss francs, or
around $225 million, in 2022
by the Swiss business magazine
Bilanz.
Streams of the music icon’s
recordings earned her around
$3.7 million annually in the years
before her death. Turner sold
more than 100 million records
worldwide during her lifetime,
