Benvenuti in una Città che, dopo i mesi bui iniziati nel novembre del 2019 con la
disastrosa acqua alta e continuati con la terribile pandemia, è pronta a rinascere e
lo fa proprio in concomitanza con l’avvio delle celebrazioni per i 1600 anni dalla sua
fondazione.
Venezia torna a vivere e lo fa con quel coraggio e quella determinazione che ha sempre contraddistinto
il suo essere Regina dei mari e simbolo di unità tra lo Stato da Mar e Stato da Tera.
Un delicato equilibrio che da sempre caratterizza le diverse realtà che compongono il suo
paesaggio - dalle isole a tutto il territorio metropolitano- creano un’offerta turistica e una realtà
unica al mondo, che tutti sono chiamati a rispettare e preservare.
Venezia è e sempre sarà una città viva che crede nel futuro: innovazione, nuova manifattura,
porto off-shore e lo sviluppo di Porto Marghera, sono le scommesse per il rilancio di questo

Welcome to Venice, the most ancient city of the future, a homeland of arts and beauties, a crossroads of cultures
and a location of welcome and dialogue where history and tradition blend perfectly with development
and innovation.
Welcome to a City that is ready, following those dark months beginning in November 2019 with a disastrous
high water and continuing with the terrible pandemic, for a rebirth taking place concurrently with the inception
of celebrations for the 1600 years since its foundation.
Venice is living once again, and doing so with the courage and determination that have always distinguished
its being the Queen of Seas and a symbol of unity between its Stato da Mar and Stato da Tera, or Marine State
and Land State.
A delicate balance, which has forever characterised the varied aspects making up its landscape - from its
islands to its whole metropolitan territory - creating a unique tourist offer and reality worldwide, which
everyone is called upon to respect and preserve.
Venice is and shall always be a vibrant city believing in the future: innovation, novel manufacturing, an offshore
port and the development of Porto Marghera are the challenges for relaunching this territory, which
wishes to position itself increasingly, in addition to being a tourist destination, as a great capital for cultures
and their related economies.

St. Mark’s Square is a monumental site and
excluding pertinent bars and restaurants, it is
forbidden to stand at any time in order to consume
food or drink.
Venice is a city of art: it is forbidden to camp,
walk about in swimwear, dive and swim. The
beaches at Lido and Pellestrina can be easily
reached.
Respect the environment and artistic wealth: do
not litter, do not vandalize with graffiti. Do not
give food to the pigeons.
If you are staying in an apartment or flat, please
get informed about the garbage recycling
collection.
Plan your trip and choose to visit Venice when it
is less crowded.

della città nasce nel 1977 da alcuni membri dell’Associazione
Triveneta delle Chiavi d’Oro.
A distanza di anni questa pubblicazione prosegue nel

questa associazione.
È quindi con piacere che pubblichiamo questo breve

members of the Golden Keys Triveneto
Association.
Years later, this periodical is still ongoing, also
thanks to its partnership with this association.

VOGLIA DI MARE, VOGLIA DI LIDO
E’ agosto… la voglia di mare si fa sentire e Venezia, città sull’acqua per antonomasia,
non può che accontentare il suo Ospite. E lo fa con una delle più rinomate spiagge
della costa adriatica, adagiata lungo il litorale dell’isola del Lido.
Qui, a metà dell’Ottocento nascono i primi stabilimenti in legno prospicienti il mare
e con questi il gusto della balneazione che presto sfocerà in una vera e propria
moda.
Con il nuovo secolo il Lido di Venezia grazie ad un turismo d’élite attratto da grandi
alberghi come l’Excelsior e il Des Bains, si affermerà a livello europeo fino a competere
con località al tempo già ricercate, come Biarritz e Ostenda, entrando nel
gotha delle località balneari più celebri al mondo.
Così, quell’isola verde dalla fine sabbia color oro, verrà arricchita con edifici firmati
da architetti di fama, esponenti dell’allora emergente stile Liberty e, poco più tardi,
da costruzioni che la faranno entrare nella storia, come il Palazzo del Cinema e il
Casinò Municipale.
Infine, con gli anni Sessanta, il Lido di Venezia si trasforma in tranquilla isola residenziale,
comoda per la vicinanza al centro di Venezia e per la sua spiaggia caratterizzata,
almeno nella sua parte centrale, dal quel fascino di luogo senza tempo
che ha saputo conquistare tanti personaggi del “bel mondo”.
Refrattaria al caos, alle risse sotto l’ombrellone, alla calca vociante, la spiaggia del
Lido si distingue oggi per la disposizione in ordinati filari di “capanne”, da quelle che
ricordano le linee del primo Novecento a quelle in stile esotico del Luxury Beach
Club Des Bains 1900.
Posto in posizione ottimale, alla fine del Gran Viale che dagli imbarcaderi porta alle
spiagge, il Des Bains 1900 si propone oggi come l’ultima novità della spiaggia del
Lido di Venezia.
Qui, immerso dai colori del mare e delle bouganville, l’Ospite potrà scegliere tra
le iconiche capanne a forma di pagoda, pratici camerini o i tradizionali ombrelloni,
tutti disposti lungo un’ampia, raffi nata, distesa di sabbia dorata.

FANCYING THE LIDO
It’s August... a seaside longing is sensed, and
Venice, the city on water par excellence, can only
satisfy its Guests.
And it does so with one of the most renowned
beaches on the Adriatic coast, lying along the
Lido island coastline.
The first wooden establishments facing the sea
were born here in the mid-Nineteenth century,
and with them, a taste for bathing, which would
soon lead to a real trend.
With the new century, thanks to an elite tourism
attracted by great hotels like the Excelsior and
the Des Bains, the Lido would establish itself on
a European level to the point of competing with
the already sought-after locations at the time
such as Biarritz and Ostend, thus joining the topmost
famed seaside resorts worldwide.
Consequently, this green island with its fine
golden sand was enriched by buildings designed
by renowned architects, exponents of the newly
emerging Art Nouveau style and, a little later, by
constructions causing it to enter history, like the
Cinema Palace and the Municipal Casino.
Then, with the Sixties, the Lido morphed into a
quiet residential island, convenient for its closeness
to the centre of Venice and for its beach,
distinguished, at least in its central part, by the
charm of a timeless location capable of capturing
numerous “beau monde” personalities.
Unreceptive to chaos, to tiffs under beach umbrellas,
to vociferating crowds, the Lido beach is
characterised nowadays for its arrangement of
“huts” in ordered rows, from ones recalling the
style of the early Twentieth century to the
exotic ones of the Des Bains 1900 Luxury
Beach Club.
Located in an optimal position, at the end
of the Gran Viale avenue leading from the
boat-stops to the beaches, the Des Bains
1900 is being proposed today as the latest
Lido beach novelty.
Here, immersed within the colours of the
sea and bougainvilleas, Guests may choose
between the iconic pagoda-shaped huts,
practical changing-rooms, or traditional
umbrellas, all situated along a broad, elegant
expanse of golden sand.
A restaurant, a bar and a wide range of
leisure activities will complete a relaxing
experience, which will undoubtedly remain
unique.
SPUNTI D’AGOSTO…
In un panorama di proposte sempre più accattivanti
Venezia si conferma come una delle mete
più amate e ricercate dal turismo. I suoi beni artistici
e monumentali sono noti al mondo, così i
suoi musei (e le sue chiese) che conservano tesori
che rappresentano una storia millenaria. Ai valori
culturali si affi ancano poi quelli ambientali.
La laguna offre infatti opportunità inaspettate alla
scoperta di un ecosistema per alcuni aspetti unico,
dove terre e acque si intrecciano in un equilibrio
fragile regolato dai flussi delle maree.
Nelle sue piccole, caratteristiche isole, si conservano
assieme ad antiche vestigia - quelle di Torcello
ne sono splendido esempio - gli ultimi mestieri,
fatti di antichi gesti e saperi artigianali come
quello dei maestri vetrai, a Murano, delle merlettaie
e delle “impiraresse” a Burano e Pellestrina.
Vista la vastità dell’offerta, diffi cile dare un consiglio,
ecco comunque, a riguardo, alcuni spunti
partendo dal panorama museale.
Chi vuole apprendere o addirittura entrare nella
storia della città non potrà mancare una visita a
Palazzo Ducale o al Museo Correr.
Qui ci si potrà lasciare conquistare dal fascino di
reperti, documenti e grandi dipinti o, addirittura,
da ambienti che hanno identificato la Serenissima
Repubblica, tra questi, l’appartamento del Doge,
riaperto da poco al pubblico.
Prestigiose opere d’arte si potranno poi scoprire
attraverso le splendide collezioni delle Gallerie
dell’Accademia, con opere dal Trecento bizantino
al Rinascimento fino al Settecento, quest’ultimo
ulteriormente rappresentato dal bellissimo
Museo del Settecento Veneziano di Ca’ Rezzonico,
da poco riaperto.

Ancora ricche raccolte d’arte sono esposte presso il Museo Internazionale d’Arte Moderna
di Ca’ Pesaro, dedicato all’Ottocento e al Novecento; alla Pinacoteca Querini Stampalia e
alla Collezione Peggy Guggenheim, tempio assoluto dell’arte Moderna.
Tra le collezioni di rilievo ci sono poi quelle presentate dai musei Statali, visibili presso il Museo
Archeologico e il Museo Orientale e della Galleria Giorgio Franchetti. A queste, si affiancano
quelle di Palazzo Cini, con le raccolte di dipinti e arredi appartenuti a Vittorio Cini.
Per gli appassionati c’è poi il Museo di Storia Naturale Giancarlo Ligabue che festeggia i
cento anni dalla nascita; il Museo Storico Navale della Marina Militare e il Museo del Vetro di
Murano, dedicato alla manifattura che ha celebrato Venezia nel mondo.
Ai visitatori infine segnaliamo le alettanti aperture estive serali promosse dai Musei Civici che
ricordiamo con tutte le specifiche, nella rispettiva rubrica dei Musei.
Ci sono poi le mostre d’Arte.
Tra queste segnaliamo Imago Iustitiae. Capolavori attraverso i secoli, un excursus sull’iconografia
usata nei secoli per rappresentare il tema della Giustizia, allestita nell’Ala napoleonica;
la retrospettiva su Edmondo Bacci, artista veneziano del Novecento, presentata dalla
Collezione Peggy Guggenheim; le mostre Chronorama e Icone proposte dalla Fondazione
Pinault nelle sedi di Palazzo Grassi e Punta della Dogana, rispettivamente sulla fotografia
degli ex archivi Condé Nast e sull’arte contemporanea.
E ancora: l’esposizione Everybody Talks about the Weather presentata dalla Fondazione
Prada a Ca’ Corner della Regina, inedito progetto di ricerca sulla correlazione tra arti visive e
tempo meteorologico; quella dedicata alla potenzialità dell’essere umano “A World of Potential”
arricchita dall'installazione di Arthur Duff, presso le Procuratie Vecchie; sull’opera
dell’innovativo architetto giapponese Kengo Kuma a Palazzo Franchetti; sul Vetro boemo
alle Stanze del Vetro, nell’isola di San Giorgio.
Sempre in campo espositivo c’è poi La Biennale di Venezia con la sua 18. Mostra internazionale
di Architettura, una sorta di straordinario panorama legato all’attività progettuale e
sperimentale contemporanea con un tema quest’anno che oggi, ancor più di sempre, tocca
il mondo intero: il rapporto tra uomo e pianeta.
Il percorso che prende inizio dal Padiglione Centrale ai Giardini, si snoda lungo il suggestivo
complesso dell’Arsenale giungendo fino al Forte Marghera, in terraferma, comprendendo
naturalmente le Partecipazioni nazionali, con singole mostre allestite nei Padiglioni ai Giardini
e all’Arsenale, oltre che nel centro storico della città.
Due importanti appuntamenti, sempre
per il campo culturale, chiudono
infine il mese.
Protagonisti saranno il Teatro La Fenice,
che dal 25 agosto presenterà
la celebre opera di Pietro Mascagni,
“Cavalleria rusticana” e ancora, La
Biennale, che festeggerà nell’occasione
la sua Mostra internazionale
d’Arte Cinematografica, giunta
quest’anno al prestigioso traguardo
delle ottanta edizioni.
L’onore del debutto spetterà al film
“fuori concorso” Challengers, diretto
da Luca Guadagnino, con Zendaya,
Josh O’Connor e Mike Faist: la
proiezione, in anteprima mondiale, è
in programma mercoledì 30 agosto
nella Sala Grande del Palazzo del Cinema.
La preapertura, il giorno precedente,
sarà invece dedicata all'indimenticabile

TIPS FOR AUGUST…
Within a scenario featuring increasingly captivating proposals, Venice remains confirmed
as one of the most beloved and sought-after destinations by tourism. Its artistic
and monumental assets are known throughout the world, as are its museums (and
its churches), preserving treasures representing a millennial history.
Its cultural values are accompanied by environmental ones.
The lagoon, in fact, offers unexpected opportunities for discovering a unique ecosystem
in certain respects, where land and water merge in a fragile balance ruled by
tidal flows. Ancient relics - the ones at Torcello being a splendid example - are preserved
on its small, characteristic, together with the last surviving crafts, involving
ancient gestures and artisan know-how, like the glass masters’ on Murano, or the lace
makers’ and “impiraresse” or bead-threaders’ on Burano and Pellestrina.
In consideration of the breadth of such offerings, it is difficult to give advice, however,
here are a few tips, beginning from the museum scenario.
Anyone who wishes to learn or even to enter the history of the city, should not miss
a visit at the Ducal Palace or at the Correr Museum.
One may be captured here by the allure of objects, documents and great paintings,
or even by locations embodying the Serene Republic, among these, the Doge’s apartment,
which has reopened to the public just recently.
Prestigious artworks may also be discovered in the splendid collections at the Galleries
of the Accademia, featuring works from the Byzantine Fourteenth century, to the
Renaissance, up to the Eighteenth century, the latter represented in particular by the
lovely Venetian Eighteenth-century Museum at Ca’ Rezzonico, recently opened anew.
Further fine art collections are on display at the International Museum of Modern
Art at Ca’ Pesaro, dedicated to the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries; at the Querini
Stampalia Picture Gallery, and at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, an absolute
temple for Modern art.
Relevant collections are also those within the State Museums at the Archaeological
Museum, the Oriental Museum, and the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery. These are furthermore
flanked by Palazzo Cini, with collections of paintings and furnishings which
belonged to Vittorio Cini.
For enthusiasts, there is also the Giancarlo Ligabue Museum of Natural History, now
celebrating the hundredth anniversary of his birth; the Navy’s Historical Naval Museum,
and the Murano Museum of Glass, dedicated to the manufacturing production
that made Venice famous worldwide.
Finally, we may point visitors towards appealing summertime late evening openings
promoted by the City Museums, which we are listing with every detail in the dedicated
section on Museums.
Then, there are the Art exhibitions.

Among them, we may point out Imago Iustitiae. Masterpieces through the centuries,
an itinerary on the depictions used over the centuries to represent the
theme of Justice, displayed at the Napoleonic Wing; the retrospective on Venetian
Twentieth century artist Edmondo Bacci, presented by the Peggy Guggenheim
Collection; the Chronorama and Icons proposed by the Pinault Foundation
at its venues in Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana, respectively on photography
from the former Condé Nast archives and on contemporary art. And more.
The Everybody Talks about the Weather exhibition by the Prada Foundation at
Ca’ Corner della Regina, a novel research project on the correlation between visual
arts and the weather; the one dedicated to the potential of the human being,
“A world of Potential” at the Old Procuratie; the one on the work of innovative
Japanese architect Kengo Kuma at Palazzo Franchetti; on Bohemian glass at the
Rooms of Glass on the island of San Giorgio.
Moreover, the exhibitions ambit features the Venice Biennale with its 18th International
Architecture Exhibition, an exceptional overview featuring contemporary
design and experimental endeavours, with its theme of this year touching
the whole world, today more than ever: the relationship between mankind and
the planet. The itinerary, starting from the Central Pavilion at the Giardini, meanders
along the suggestive Arsenal complex, as far as Forte Marghera on the
mainland, naturally including national Participations with individual exhibitions
set up within the Pavilions at the Giardini and at the Arsenal, besides the historic
centre in town.
Finally, also within the cultural ambit, this month will be ending with two important
events. Their protagonists will be La Fenice Theatre, presenting Pietro Mascagni’s
famous opera “Cavalleria rusticana” from 25 August, and yet again, the
Biennale, celebrating its International Film Festival, which will have reached its
prestigious eightieth edition milestone this year.
The honour of opening it will go to “out-of-competition” film Challengers, directed
by Luca Guadagnino, starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist. This world
premiere screening is scheduled for Wednesday 30 August, in the Sala Grande at
the Cinema Palace. The pre-opening, the day before, will instead be dedicated to
the unforgettable Gina Lollobrigida.

Ritorna anche quest’anno la rassegna
estiva di cinema itinerante
che coinvolgerà, nel mese di
agosto, 4 differenti location.
La rassegna “Al Lido in spiaggia:
uno sguardo all’orizzonte” torna
in una seconda edizione, offrendo
una serie di proiezioni cinematografiche
in riva al mare. I film
selezionati affrontano tematiche
sociali e relazionali con sensibilità,
invitando gli spettatori a vivere
un’esperienza unica sulla spiaggia.
Gli appuntamenti sono nella
spiaggia libera, in Lungomare
Gabriele D’annunzio 2. Da non
dimenticare il telo da mare, poiché
non ci saranno sedie disponibili.
Campo San Polo invece vedrà
la rassegna “uno sguardo
sull’Europa” che si articola in
venti serate dedicate al cinema
europeo. Verranno proposti
lungometraggi, cortometraggi,
documentari e film di finzione
provenienti da diverse nazioni
europee a cui saranno dedicati
approfondimenti e presentazioni
in stretta collaborazione con diverse
istituzioni internazionali.
E poi, come un filo sottile e resistente,
il cinema itinerante sarà
anche nei quartieri: il 19 agosto a
Malamocco e il 20 agli Alberoni.

The itinerant cinema summer showcase
is back again this year, featuring
4 different locations during the
month of August.
The showcase “At the Lido on the
beach: a look at the horizon” is
back with a second edition, offering
a series of film screenings by
the sea shore. The selected films
address social and relational issues
with sensitivity, inviting viewers to
have a unique experience on the
beach. The rendez-vous are on the
free beach, in Lungomare Gabriele
D’Annunzio 2,
Please don’t forget a beach towel,
as there will be no seating available.
Campo San Polo will instead feature
“a view on Europe” structured
in twenty evenings dedicated to
European cinema, offering feature-length
films, shorts, documentaries
and fiction films from
different European countries, with
insights and presentations, in close
collaboration with various international
institutions.
And then, like a fine, resilient thread,
itinerant cinema will also be in the
village districts: on 19 August in
Malamocco and on 20 August at the
Alberoni.

This customary showcase dedicated
to worldwide cinematographic
art is punctually back. Promoted by
the Venice Biennale and directed by
Alberto Barbera, it will take place at
the Lido of Venice from 30 August
to 9 September in its traditional
Cinema Palace venues and the Cinema
Citadel ones around it.
The international Jury, chaired for
this 80th Edition by American filmmaker
Damien Chazelle, will award
the feature-length films in Competition
with the following official
prizes: Golden Lion for best film,
Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize, Silver
Lion – Award for Best Director, Volpi
Cup for Best Actress, Volpi Cup for

Quest’anno la quindicesima edizione della rassegna

Dopo l’intervento di valorizzazione
l’Appartamento del Doge
torna a far parte del percorso
espositivo di Palazzo Ducale.
L’allestimento racconta la storia
dei 120 Dogi che hanno governato
la città con dipinti, sculture
e documenti che illustrano la
figura del Doge e la sua importanza
nella Repubblica di Venezia.
Il percorso si conclude con
l’abdicazione dell’ultimo Doge,
Ludovico Manin nel 1797, che
segnò la fine della Repubblica.
Per tutta l’estate Palazzo Ducale
sarà aperto fino alle 23.00
(ultimo ingresso ore 22.00) ogni
venerdì e sabato e lunedì 14 e
martedì 15 agosto.

Following enhancement work, the
Doge’s Apartment is returning as a
part of the Ducal Palace exhibition circuit.
The showcase recounts the history
of the 120 Doges who ruled the
city, with paintings, sculptures and
documents illustrating the Doge’s
figure and his importance within
the Republic of Venice. The itinerary
ends with the abdication of the last
Doge, Ludovico Manin in 1797, which
marked the end of the Republic.
Throughout the summer, the Ducal
Palace will be open until 11pm (last
admissions at 10pm) every Friday
and Saturday, and on Monday 14 and
Tuesday 15 August.

Una grande mostra a tema suddivisa in sei parti
con la partecipazione di 89 artisti di cui oltre

Sacro e natura in mostra alle Vatican Chapels.
Dieci grandi nomi internazionali della fotografia in

park, by as many world-famous architects, for the
occasion of the first Holy See Pavilion at the 2018
International Architecture Exhibition.

L'energia della luce.
Un’ottantina di opere, tra
dipinti e disegni inediti,
provenienti dall’Archivio
Edmondo Bacci, musei e
collezioni private nazionali
e internazionali, riportano idealmente
a Ca’ Venier dei Leoni l’artista
veneziano tanto caro a Peggy Guggenheim.
Curata da Chiara Bertola, la mostra si concentra
sul periodo più lirico e felice della produzione
di Bacci, ovvero gli anni ’50, che hanno segnato
il successo nonché la consacrazione dell’artista,
avvenuta nel 1958 nel corso della XXIX Biennale
Internazionale d’Arte di Venezia.
Tra le opere esposte quella che Alfred Barr, allora
direttore del Museum of Modern Art di New York,
acquistò nel 1953. La tela, nota come “Avvenimento
13 R”, oggi parte della collezione del museo
newyorkese, ritorna eccezionalmente in Italia,
per essere esposta per la prima volta al pubblico.
La mostra chiude con un'importante opera di
Giambattista Tiepolo, tributo alla tradizione pittorica
veneziana.

Capolavori attraverso i secoli.
Allestita negli spazi del Museo Correr, a partire
dalla splendida Sala della Biblioteca Pisani, questa
mostra si presenta come sintesi artistico-concettuale
del significato di Giustizia.
Attraverso sei sezioni, corrispondenti allo svilupparsi
della Figura allegorica, dagli albori delle
civiltà fino all’età moderna, vengono esposti reperti
archeologici, monete, medaglie, documenti
e opere realizzate da importanti artisti, dal Medioevo
al ‘900.
L’esposizione si conclude con una serie di scene
dedicate ad atti e protagonisti di Giustizia immortalati
come eroi e santi e da una selezione di tele
firmate da grandi artisti che raffi gurano episodi
legati al tema.
Ideata e organizzata dal Centro Europeo per il Turismo
e la Cultura di Roma in sinergia con Fondazione
Musei Civici di Venezia, la mostra resterà
aperta al pubblico fino al 3 settembre.

Around eighty artworks, between unpublished
paintings and drawings, from the Edmondo Bacci
Archive, national and international museums
and private collections, ideally bringing back this
Venetian artist so dear to Peggy Guggenheim at
Ca' Venier dei Leoni.
By curator Chiara Bertola, the exhibition concentrates
on the most lyrical and happy period
in Bacci's production, or the 1950s, marking the
artist's success as well as his consecration, which
took place in 1958 during the 29th International
Art Biennale of Venice. Among the works
displayed, was the one which Alfred Barr, then
the director of the Museum of Modern Art in
New York, bought in 1953. This canvas, known
as "Event 13 R", and now part of the New York
museum collection, is returning exceptionally to
Italy to be exhibited in public for the first time.

Masterpieces through the ages.
This exhibition, set up within the Correr Museum
venues, beginning from the splendid Pisani Library
Hall, is presented as an artistic, conceptual
synthesis of the meaning of Justice.
Archaeological finds, coins, medals, documents
and artworks by important artists from the Middle
Ages to the 1900s, are on display through six
sections, corresponding to the development of
the allegorical Figure, from the dawn of civilizations
to the modern age. The exhibition ends with
a series of scenes dedicated to deeds and protagonists
of Justice immortalised as heroes and
saints, and a selection of canvases signed by great
artists depicting episodes related to this theme.
The exhibition, conceived and organised by the
European Centre for Tourism and Culture in Rome,
in synergy with the City Museums Foundation in
Venice, will remain open to the public until 3/9.

vulnerabili, questa mostra interattiva curata
da Orna Cohen, si presenta come un viaggio

installazione di Arthur Duff, “The Hungriest Eye.

Prosegue con una importante mostra a Le Stanze
del Vetro il progetto culturale pluriennale pensato

grandi maestri della scultura contemporanea in
vetro raccontando l'evoluzione, dopo la seconda

a un utilizzo per la realizzazione di importanti
sculture astratte.

Dalle pratiche di ascolto alla sound art.
Prendendo avvio da alcuni materiali conservati
nell’Archivio Storico della Fondazione Bevilacqua La
Masa, questo progetto si presenta come una ricerca
su alcune forme di espressione artistica legate ai
linguaggi del suono, dell’ascolto e della parola.
L’indagine si estende alle ricerche più recenti e
alla produzione di una nuova generazione di artisti,
quelli della cosiddetta “ultima avanguardia
veneziana”, molti dei quali hanno esposto, o gravitato,
attorno alla Bevilacqua La Masa.

• A WORLD OF POTENTIAL
Hosted on the third floor at the Old Procuratie,
the headquarters of The Human Safety Net, a
foundation created by the Generali group with
the aim of offering new potential to vulnerable
persons, this exhibition, by curator Orna Cohen,
is presented as an experiential journey in which
visitors are invited into a sequence of experiences
which increase their self-awareness and the
perception of the world at the same time.
In the final part, visitors will be able to gather
information about the foundation’s activity and
to donate half of their ticket cost to one of the
programmes (freely chosen) managed by the
Foundation itself.
Arthur Duff’s new installation “The Hungriest
Eye. The blossoming of Potential" is part of the
circuit, as a new collaborative space where visitors
can take part in the creation of an artwork,
expressing their potential.

• BOHEMIAN GLASS: the great masters.
The Rooms of Glass are reopening with an important
exhibition dedicated to Bohemian glass, a
long-term cultural project dedicated to glass art
and design. The exhibition, organised in collaboration
with the Prague Museum of Decorative
Arts, will present six great masters of contemporary
glass sculpture, recounting the evolution
of glass in Bohemia after the Second World War:
from its traditional categorisation under applied
and decorative art, to its employment in the creation
of important abstract sculptures.
Twenty photographs by Josef Sudek from the
Glass Labyrinths series complete the circuit.

Regina la Fondazione Prada presenta
questo inedito progetto di ricerca ideato
dal curatore Dieter Roelstraete: una sorta
di esplorazione sui significati del tempo
meteorologico nel mondo dell’arte
visiva, ideale premessa per affrontare
l’emergenza climatica in corso.
Il percorso della mostra si compone di
una cinquantina di opere di artisti contemporanei
e una selezione complementare
di lavori storici completati da
una serie di approfondimenti scientifici.

this exhibition presents a series of photography
works in world premiere from the Condé Nast

l’atto di creare o usare parole che includono suoni
simili ai rumori ai quali si riferiscono.

At the exhibition venues of the Mestre M9 museum,
an important exhibition dedicated to this
Venetian master of the informal is presenting
130 artworks, between installations and wall canvases,

this original retrospective is being presented at

For the occasion of the Architecture Biennale, in
this exhibition the Giorgio Cini Foundation is
illustrating the opus and the vision of architect,

a bold, anti-conformist experimenter crossed
historic 1900s Avantgardes between Europe and
the United States.

collective exhibition by curator Aoki with works

CARLA ACCARDI. The Seventies: Sheets.

significant figures in the 1900s art, nearing her

with a small selection of artworks dialoguing

Ten unpublished paintings on canvas for ten symbolic
architectures overlooking the Grand Canal:
a sort of installation, which the Venetian artist
has created for the venues on the ground floor
of Mariano Fortuny’s alluring museum-home,
following research on traditional historical methodologies.

• TRAMALOGIE. Anna Moro – Lin bequest
Anna Moro-Lin is one of the Fiber Art. protagonists,
the Textile Art developed since the Twentieth
century thanks to French artist Jean Lurçat, a
pioneer of this art harking back to tapestry. The
exhibition presents a nucleus of 20 of his artworks,
donated by the recently deceased artiste
to the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum, now home to
the Centre for the History of Textiles, Costume
and Perfume.
The circuit winds through twenty rooms on the noble
first floor, doubling the exhibition venues which
opened in 1985. The exhibition, by curator Chiara
Squarcina, will remain visible until 20 August.

DELL’APPARIZIONE
Borgo di Pellestrina: fino al 6 agosto.
Una festa popolare arricchita da un variegato
calendario di appuntamenti, tra cui una serie di
regate festeggia la più importante ricorrenza di
quest’isola posta tra mare e laguna: una miracolosa
apparizione avvenuta nell’anno 1716.
Nell’occasione saranno allestiti i tipici chioschi di
specialità gastronomiche.
• FESTA DI S. STEFANO DI PORTOSECCO
Portosecco, isola di Pellestrina: dal 12 al 15 agosto.
Tradizionale sagra paesana che ricorda nel giorno
di ferragosto il patrono del piccolo borgo all’estremità
nord dell’isola di Pellestrina.
Un programma presenterà regate, giochi, il caratteristico
palo della cuccagna in acqua, serate
danzanti... Per l’occasione un chiosco servirà alcuni
piatti della cucina locale.
• FESTA DELL’ASSUNTA
Isola di Torcello: martedì 15 agosto.
Nel cuore dell’estate da molti anni un rito celebra
in quest’isola, antica capitale della laguna, la solennità
liturgica dell’Assunta, ovvero della Madonna
dell’Assunzione, alla quale è dedicata la sua
millenaria basilica. Il programma (da confermare)
vedrà oltre alla celebrazione della messa solenne
in basilica, l’apertura gratuita al sito monumentale
comprendente il museo della laguna, l’antica basilica,
e l’adiacente torrione. Un concerto corale nel
pomeriggio completerà la giornata di festa.
• FESTA DI SAN ROCCO
Scuola Grande di San Rocco: mercoledì 16 agosto.
Una ricorrenza celebra il giorno di San Rocco,
co-patrono di Venezia, la traslazione in città delle
wspoglie del Santo.
Nell'occasione alcune iniziative permettono di approfondire
la conoscenza della Scuola Grande,
luogo ricco di storia e arte, che resterà aperta al
pubblico dalle ore 10 alle 17. Nella giornata sono
previsti una messa solenne, la consegna del Premio
San Rocco e un concerto all'aperto. Il campo
adiacente la Scuola verrà adornato, secondo un’antica
tradizione, con lo storico “Tendon del Doge”.

Village of Pellestrina: until 6 August.
A traditional village fête enriched by a varied
calendar of events, including a series of regattas
celebrates the most important anniversary on
the island, located between the sea and the
lagoon: a miraculous apparition which took place
in the year of 1716. For the occasion, typical
kiosks will be set up with food specialities.
• PATRON’S FÊTE OF PORTOSECCO
Village of Portosecco: 12 - 15 August.
Traditional village fête in memory of the patron
of this small hamlet at the very northern end of
the Pellestrina island. The programme offers
regattas, children’s games, a characteristic
maypole in the water, dancing evenings, theatre
shows... For the occasion a kiosk will serve typical
local cuisine dishes.
• FÊTE OF THE ASSUMPTA
Island of Torcello: 15 August.
For many years on this island, the ancient capital
of the lagoon, a rite in the heart of summer
has been celebrating the solemn liturgy of the
Assumpta, or the Assumption Madonna, to whom
the thousand year-old basilica is dedicated.
The programme (to be confirmed) will feature, in
addition to the celebration of the solemn Mass in
the basilica, a free admission to the monumental
sites including the lagoon-museum, the ancient
basilica, and the nearby tower. A choral concert
in the afternoon will round off this festive day.
• FÊTE OF ST. ROCH
Scuola Grande and Church of St. Rocco: 16 August.
This commemoration on the day of Saint Roch,
co-patron of Venice, celebrates the transfer of
the Saint’s relics to the city. On this occasion
certain initiatives offer the opportunity for a
further discovery of this venue full of history and
art (from 10am to 5pm).
The day will feature a solemn Mass, the awarding
of the St. Roch Prize and a concert.
The square next to the Scuola, or Guild, will be
decorated according to an ancient tradition with
the historic “Doge’s Banner”.

Musei Civici
Gestiti dalla Fondazione Musei Civici
di Venezia nota con l’acronimo
MUVE, rappresentano una parte, con oltre
700.000 opere d’arte, dell’immenso patrimonio
culturale della città.
Sono in tutto undici musei gestiti da un unico
sistema che MUVE valorizza anche attraverso
importanti mostre d’arte.
Tra questi quelli di Palazzo Ducale, del Correr,
di Ca’ Pesaro, di Ca’Rezzonico…
L’ingresso alle sedi può avvenire con un singolo
biglietto o tramite il sistema del circuito
“Museum Pass” o del percorso integrato dei
“Musei di San Marco”.

Cinque in città e tre nel territorio veneziano,
i musei gestiti dal Ministero
della Cultura – Direzione regionale Musei -
fanno parte di un sistema museale che riunisce
alcuni tra i maggiori musei del territorio,

la basilica di San Marco, con il suo
prezioso museo, le monumentali basiliche
dei Frari e dei SS Giovanni e Paolo; le Scuole
grandi, veri scrigni d’arte, di San Rocco, di
San Giovanni Evangelista, dei Carmini, di San
Giorgio dei Greci; e ancora, tra i musei, quello
Ebraico e quello Ellenico.

Sono molti e importanti i musei sparsi
nel territorio dell’entroterra veneziano.
A questi si aggiungono le ville venete,
straordinari esempi di sintonia tra architettura,
arte e paesaggio. Come per i musei anche

VENICE AND ITS MUSEUMS
Few cities in Italy (and in Europe) may boast a museum scenario
like this city’s. Set inside fine palaces and ancient abodes
within a radius of a few hundred metres, they are an integral
part of the huge cultural heritage the city assimilated over its
centuries of history.
But how to choose a museum, or museums, to most attract
one’s curiosity and desire for knowledge? Here in brief, is how
to find your way around.
Information in detail follows instead about the major ones.
City Museums
Managed by the Venice City Museums Foundation
known by its acronym MUVE, they represent a part of
the city’s huge cultural heritage, with over 700,000 artworks.
Eleven museums in total, run by a single body, boosted by
MUVE also with notable art exhibitions.
They include the Ducal Palace, the Correr, Ca’Pesaro, Ca’Rezzonico…
Entry to such venues is by a single ticket, or the
“Museum Pass” circuit system, or the “Saint Mark’s Museums”
integrated circuit.
State Museums
Five in town and three in Venetian territory, these
museums managed by the Ministry of Culture - Regional
Directorate for Museums - are part of a museum system
featuring some of the area’s top museums, including the
Galleries of the Accademia and the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery
in Venice among others, and Villa Pisani in Stra along the
Brenta Riviera.
Other museums
This section lists privately-managed museums or
ones run by individual Foundations. We may here
mention for importance the Peggy Guggenheim Collection;
the Querini Stampalia Picture-Gallery; the Palazzo Cini collections.
Churches, Devotion Schools
and religious museums
Churches and devotion schools, the latter being ancient
town guilds, are also part of the city’s museum heritage.
Among them, for importance, we find the basilica of Saint
Mark at the very top with its precious museum, the monumental
basilicas of the Frari and of Saints Giovanni & Paolo;
the Scuole Grandi of San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista, the
Carmini, San Giorgio dei Greci, true art coffers; plus the Jewish
and the Hellenic ones among the museums.
Museums and Villas on the territory
The Museums spread over the Venetian hinterland
territory are many, and important. In addition there
are the Veneto villas, exceptional examples of harmony amid
architecture, art and landscape. As with the museums, this
scenario is also quite vast. We are (unfortunately) mentioning
just a part.

it is the most ancient building present in the lagoon. It still survives today

LA RIAPERTURA
DELL’APPARTAMENTO DEL DOGE
Dal 14 luglio 2023 è tornato a far parte del percorso
espositivo di Palazzo ducale l’appartamento
riservato al Doge.
Negli ultimi anni la scelta della Fondazione Muve,
che gestisce i musei civici veneziani, era stata
quella di utilizzare le stanze del suddetto appartamento
per l’organizzazione di esposizioni temporanee,
escludendolo quindi dal percorso ordinario
di visita.
L’appartamento è situato nella bella ala rinascimentale,
che fu ricostruita dopo il terribile incendio
del 1483.
Il nuovo allestimento delle sale è stato fatto apportando
delle novità e sfruttando ora gli spazi
espositivi, già creati in precedenza, per mostrare
dipinti, oggetti e altri cimeli che aiutano a meglio
comprendere la millenaria storia di questa figura
istituzionale, a cominciare dal primo doge eletto
alla fine del settimo secolo d.C. Paoluccio Anafesto
fino all’ultimo doge in carica nel 1797 Ludovico
Manin, quando la conquista di Venezia da parte di
Napoleone segnò la fine della Repubblica.
L’appartamento include non solo le stanze in cui
si svolgeva la vita privata del doge, ma anche alcune
sale di rappresentanza destinate a riunioni o
a udienze ristrette.
Normalmente, infatti, la gestione del potere da
parte dei nobili veneziani era destinata a svolgersi
nei più ampi spazi delle sale istituzionali, riccamente
decorate dai maestri del rinascimento veneziano
e riservate alle istituzioni che gestivano i
diversi aspetti della vita della Repubblica.
THE REOPENING
OF THE DOGES’ APARTMENT
Since July 14th 2023 the apartment of the Doges
has reopened to visitors, after years during which
time it was hosting temporary exhibitions and it
was therefore excluded from the itinerary regularly
open to visitors.
The apartment where the elected ruler of the ancient
Republic of Venice (the Doge) used to live is
placed in the beautiful Renaissance wing of the
Doge’s Palace, which was rebuilt after the terrible
fire in 1483, which had completely destroyed
the previous wing existing in this same space.
The renewed rooms will now display paintings
and historical objects helping visitors to better
understand the thousand-year old history of this
institutional figure: starting from the first doge
elected at the end on the 7th century, whose
name was Paoluccio Anafesto, to continue until
the last doge Ludovico Manin, in charge till 1797
when Napoleon conquered the city, causing the
end of the Republic of Venice.
The apartment includes not only the rooms
where the doge lived with his family, but also
some boardrooms designed for institutional
meetings, limited to few people. Indeed, the
meetings of all Venetian noblemen in power
were normally arranged in the institutional
rooms, beautifully decorated by the main artists
of the Venetian Renaissance such as Tintoretto
and Veronese among several others.
The exhibition starts with the room in which all
the tools for the election of the doge are exhibited
to continue in the following ones exploring
the international relationships and the diplomacy,
the most important battles, the conspiracies.
All these events will be considered always from
the point of view of some doges, which will characterize
the story.
The last rooms will be set up to show the worldly
and royal aspects of the doge’s life.

500 gr. SARDE FRESCHE / fresh sardines
700 gr. CIPOLLE BIANCHE / white onions
100 ml ACETO BIANCO / white vinegar
100 ml VINO BIANCO SECCO / dry white wine
manciata PINOLI E UVETTA / pine nuts and raisins
1 cucchiaio ZUCCHERO / sugar
Q.B. FARINA, OLIO DI SEMI, SALE, PEPE / flour, vegetable oil, salt, pepper
E’ una antica ricetta veneziana dettata, principalmente, dalla necessità di conservare il
cibo durante i lunghi periodi in mare dei marinai e dei pescatori.
PREPARAZIONE:
Mettere in acqua tiepida l’uvetta e lasciarla riposare.
Tagliate le cipolle a “julienne” e mettetele ad appassire
a fuoco basso in un tegame con l'olio di semi,
aggiungete il sale e il pepe.
Alzate il fuoco e unite l'aceto, il vino bianco e lo zucchero
e lasciate sfumare a fuoco vivo.
Una volta cotte le cipolle unite l’uvetta, ed i pinoli.
Lavate e pulite molto bene le sarde, avendo cura di
lasciare la coda attaccata. Infarinatele e friggetele in
abbondante olio di semi, una volta fritte e scolate disponete
in un recipiente di terra cotta, le sarde alternate
a strati del preparato di cipolle, uvetta e pinoli.
Il piatto è pronto ma si consiglia, per assaporare appieno
questa antica ricetta, di lasciarla risposare per
almeno un giorno prima di gustarla.
DISHES OF THE TRADITION
It is an old Venetian recipe, mainly dictated by the need to preserve food during long periods at sea for
sailors and fishermen
PREPARATION:
Cut onions into strips, pour into a saucepan and brown them in vegetable oil, add salt and pepper and the
vinegar, white wine and sugar, keeping a flame going until it evaporates. Once the onions are cooked, add
the raisins and pine nuts.
Wash and clean the sardines very well, taking care to leave the tail attached. Flour them and fry in abundant
vegetable oil. Once fried and drained, place the sardines in a terracotta bowl, alternating them with
layers of onion, raisin and pine nut mixture.
The dish is ready, but in order to fully savour this ancient recipe, it is recommended to let it marinate for at
least one day before serving.

A VENEZIA
Venezia è una città-isola, o meglio, è una città formata da una moltitudine
di piccolissime isole (circa 110): una configurazione praticamente unica al
mondo. Il suo accesso sembrerebbe quindi complesso. Ma così non è.
Venezia mantiene un “cordone ombelicale” con il mondo, o meglio con la
terraferma (come i veneziani chiamano tutto ciò che è fuori dall’isola).
Questo è il ponte della Libertà, un tempo chiamato Littorio, dal periodo della
sua costruzione, gli anni Trenta.
La sua origine è però antecedente e risale a metà Ottocento, esattamente al
1846 data dell’inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria Milano-Venezia.
Da quel tempo, la città diventò raggiungibile non solo via acqua ma anche via
terra… sarà una svolta epocale.
Ma ecco in breve oggi, quali sono i principali punti di accesso alla città.
GETTING TO VENICE
Venice is an island-city, or rather, it is a city made up of a multitude of tiny islands (about 110): a configuration
that is practically unique in the world. Accessing it would thus seem complex. But this is not the case.
Venice maintains an “umbilical cord” with the world, or rather with the mainland (as the Venetians call
everything off the island). It is the Libertà Bridge, once called Littorio from its construction period, the 1930s.
However, its origin is earlier and dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, precisely to 1846, the inauguration
date of the Milan-Venice railway line. Since then, the city not only became accessible by water but also by land…
it would be the turning point of an era. But here are the main access points to the city today, in brief.

I TERMINAL - GLI ACCESSI VIA TERRA
PIAZZALE ROMA
E’ lo storico terminal automobilistico di Venezia
dove spiccano le due grandi autorimesse pubbliche:
il Garage San Marco e il Garage Comunale
AVM (quest’ultimo con un’area predisposta anche
alle biciclette).
Il vasto Piazzale, di recente collegato da un moderno
ponte pedonale alla Stazione ferroviaria (il ponte
della Costituzione), fa attualmente da riferimento
al servizio di collegamento urbano ed extraurbano
con la terraferma.
Da qui arrivano e si diramano le corse dei servizi
pubblici (Actv e Atvo) e privati (taxi) che collegano
Venezia alla città metropolitana e ai due aeroporti,
quello di Tessera e di Treviso.
Un servizio su monorotaia (People Mover) collega
inoltre Piazzale Roma all’isola del Tronchetto.
L’ISOLA DEL TRONCHETTO
Allacciata da una “bretella” al ponte automobilistico,
ospita il Venezia Tronchetto Parking (uno dei
più grandi garage in Europa) dove possono trovare
posto quasi 4000 mezzi compresi camper e
motociclette.
Al suo esterno, a pochi metri, si trovano gli imbarcaderi
dai quali si dipartono le linee del servizio pubblico
Actv (Linea 2) e privato per il cuore della città.
Una linea speciale denominata People Moover
collega in pochi minuti l’isola al terminal automobilistico
di Piazzale Roma.
L’isola ospita inoltre un porticciolo e il casello di
accesso al servizio di Ferry-boat della linea 17 di
Actv che collega il Tronchetto alle isole del Lido
e di Pellestrina.
LA STAZIONE FERROVIARIA DI SANTA LUCIA
Situata in posizione ideale, questa primaria porta
di accesso alla città, posta al termine del ponte
della Libertà si affaccia all’ultimo lembo del
Canal Grande.
Qui sono disposti gli imbarcaderi da dove si diramano
le principali linee Actv per la città e le isole:
la linea 1 (tutte le fermate) e 2 (diretta) per il Canal
Grande e il Canale della Giudecca; la 4.1 e 4.2; 5.1
e 5.2 (circolari) per laguna nord e Murano).
Alla stazione di recente ammodernata e ampliata
con servizi e centri commerciali, arrivano tutte le
linee veloci che collegano Venezia alle principali
città italiane ed europee.
TERMINALS - ACCESS VIA LAND
PIAZZALE ROMA
It is the historic car terminal in Venice, where two
big public garages stand out: the San Marco Garage
and the AVM Municipal Garage (the latter
also has an area for bicycles).
This large Square, linked recently to the railway
station by a modern pedestrian bridge (the Costituzione
Bridge), is currently the hub for urban
and extra-urban connection services with the
mainland.
Public (Actv and Atvo) and private (taxis) services
arrive and go from here, connecting Venice to its
metropolitan city and the two airports of Tessèra
and Treviso.
A monorail service (People Mover) also connects
Piazzale Roma to the Tronchetto island.
THE TRONCHETTO ISLAND
Connected to the automobile bridge by a flyover,
it houses the Venezia Tronchetto Parking (one
of the largest garages in Europe), where almost
4000 vehicles may be accommodated, including
camper vans and motorcycles.
Outside, a few metres away, are the boat-stops
from where public ACTV service (Line 2) and private
lines depart for the heart of the city.
A special train line called People Mover links this
island to the Piazzale Roma cars terminal in just
a few minutes.
The island also hosts a small port and toll-booth
for boarding the Actv Ferry-boat line 17 service,
linking Tronchetto to the Lido and Pellestrina islands.
THE SANTA LUCIA RAILWAY STATION
Ideally located, this primary gateway to the city
at the end of the Libertà Bridge overlooks the
last stretch of the Grand Canal.
Here are the boat stops from where the main
ACTV lines lead to the city and the islands: lines 1
(all stops) and 2 (direct) for the Grand Canal and
the Giudecca Canal; n. 4.1 and 4.2; 5.1 and 5.2 (circle)
for the northern lagoon and Murano.
All the rapid lines connecting Venice to the main
Italian and European cities arrive at this station,
recently modernised and enlarged with services
and shopping hubs.

AEROPORTO MARCO POLO - VENEZIA
Posto ai lembi della laguna nord di Venezia, a circa
13 chilometri dalla città è oggi il terzo aeroporto
per numero di passeggeri in Italia.
Gestito dalla società Save e ampliato nel 2017 è
oggi dotato di una vasta area di servizi, oltre che
di parcheggi e collegamenti con mezzi pubblici
sia via terra che via acqua gestiti rispettivamente
dalle compagnie Atvo (con un servizio Shuttle su
Piazzale Roma) e Alilaguna con motoscafi diretti
sul centro città e le isole.
Vi operano numerose compagnie aeree con una
folta rete di voli nazionali e internazionali.
AEROPORTO ANTONIO CANOVA - TREVISO
wNato come scalo per voli charter e cargo l’aeroporto
di Treviso grazie ad importanti investimenti
che hanno di recente ampliato pista ed aerostazione
è a tutti gli effetti tra i maggiori aeroporti
della regione Veneto.
Posto a pochi chilometri dalla città di Treviso e circa
a trenta dalla città di Venezia oggi fa da base
ad una delle massime compagnie internazionali
Low Cost. Gestito dalla stessa società dell’aeroporto
veneziano è collegato con la città tramite la
linea Shuttle di Atvo.

Tra i più suggestivi aeroporti italiani, esempio perfettamente
conservato di architettura degli anni
Trenta, l’aeroporto Nicelli è noto come il più antico
scalo commerciale italiano, e considerato da una
speciale classifica, tra le più belle superfici aeroportuali
al mondo.
La sua pista in erba fa oggi da scalo ad elicotteri e
piccoli aerei charter e privati con motori ad elica.
Posto in un’estremità dell’isola del Lido è raggiungibile
via acqua con linee private o il servizio ferry-boat
della linea 17 Actv.

Located on the edge of Venice’s northern lagoon,
about 13 kilometres from town, today
it is the third airport in terms of passenger
numbers in Italy. Managed by the Save company
and expanded in 2017, it is now equipped with a
vast services area, as well as parking and public
transport links both by land and by water, managed
respectively by Atvo (with a Shuttle service
to Piazzale Roma), and Alilaguna with direct motor-launches
to the city centre and its islands.
Several airlines operate there, with a large network

ANTONIO CANOVA AIRPORT - TREVISO
Born as a hub for charter and cargo flights,
thanks to major investments which have recently
expanded its runway and terminal Treviso airport
is effectively one of the major airports in the
Veneto region.
Located a few kilometres from the city of Treviso
and about thirty from the city of Venice, today it
is a base for one of the leading international Low
Cost companies. Managed by the same company
as the Venetian airport, it is connected to the city
by an Atvo Shuttle busline.
NICELLI AIRPORT - LIDO OF VENICE
One of the most evocative Italian airports, a perfectly
preserved example of 1930s architecture,
the Nicelli airport is known as the oldest Italian
commercial airport, and deemed by a special
ranking to be one of the most beautiful airport
areas worldwide. Its grass runway is now a hub
for helicopters and small charter and private
planes with propeller engines.
Located at one end of the Lido island, it may be
reached by water with private taxis or by the
ACTV Ferry-boat line 17 service.

Sono molte le opportunità per girare e scoprire Venezia.
La prima scelta, forse la migliore, è senza dubbio – grazie alle sue distanze ridotte
- quella di muoversi a piedi. A volte però, la mancanza di tempo, i bagagli pesanti e,
non ultimo, l’impossibilità fisica di attraversare la laguna diventa comodo, oltre che
piacevole dal punto di vista paesaggistico, salire a bordo di un mezzo di trasporto.
Nella città lagunare non esistono bus, ne metro, ne auto-taxi e… nemmeno biciclette.
Ecco allora che i mezzi di trasporto pubblici sono vaporetti o battelli (così li chiamano
da un vecchio retaggio i veneziani) e motoscafi veloci, chiamati “lance”, che fanno la
funzione dei taxi, fino ad arrivare a quel mezzo, tra i più iconici al mondo, che per secoli
ha contraddistinto il trasporto di persone lungo i rii (canali) della città: la gondola.
Ecco qualche nota a riguardo per chi appunto, appena arrivato a Venezia, volesse
spostarsi usando i mezzi di navigazione.

IL SERVIZIO DI TRASPORTO PUBBLICO
ACTV
E’ l’Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano.
La sua flotta di imbarcazioni raggiunge ogni punto
della città, comprese le isole maggiori.
Autobus e tram collegano invece il terminal di
Piazzale Roma alla città metropolitana.
Una linea speciale, la 17, collega invece con una
spola di ferry-boat il Terminal automobilistico del
Tronchetto, all’isola del Lido e, a proseguire, quella
di Pellestrina.
Dal 2020 ACTV sta investendo sul trasporto “green”
puntando ad inserire lungo la principale via
d’acqua della città, il Canal Grande, i primi mezzi
a propulsione elettrica eliminando così sia l’inquinamento
acustico che quello dell’aria, favorendo
allo stesso tempo, la riduzione del moto ondoso.

La compagnia nasce come servizio di collegamento
acqueo tra l’Aeroporto Marco Polo e i punti
focali della città: i terminal del Tronchetto, di Piazzale
Roma e della Stazione, le zone di San Marco e
di Rialto, le isole della Giudecca, del Lido e di Murano.
La rete di navigazione è costituita da quattro
linee (più una turistica) contraddistinte ognuna da
un colore.

MOVING IN VENICE
The opportunities for getting around and discovering
Venice are many.
A first choice, maybe the best, is no doubt -
thanks to its short distances - to move on foot.
But sometimes, due to lack of time, heavy luggage
and, last but not least, the physical impossibility
of crossing the lagoon, it is comfortable,
as well as pleasant from a scenic point of view, to
board a transport vehicle.
There are no buses, no metro, no car-taxis in the
lagoon city… nor bicycles.
Thus, public transport boats are vaporetti or battelli
(traditionally so called by Venetians of yore)
and fast motor-launches, called “lance”, which act
as taxis, ending with one of the most iconic vehicles
worldwide, which has characterised people’s
transport along the city canals for centuries: the
gondola.
Here are a few notes for those who, having just
arrived in Venice, wish to move around by navigation.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE
ACTV
It is the Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano Company.
Its boat fleet reaches every part of town, including
its major islands.
Buses and trams instead link the Piazzale Roma
terminal to its metropolitan city.
Special line n. 17 links Tronchetto car-terminal to
the Lido island by a ferry-boat shuttle, and further
on to Pellestrina island.
Since 2020, ACTV has been investing in “green”
transport, aiming at its first electrically-powered
vehicles along the main city waterway, the Grand
Canal, eliminating both noise and air pollution
and favouring a wave motion reduction at the
same time.

ALILAGUNA
This company was born as a water-link service
between Marco Polo Airport and focal points in
town: the Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma and Railway
terminals, the Saint Mark and Rialto areas, the Giudecca,
Lido and Murano islands. The navigation
network consists of four lines (+ a tourist one),
each marked by a colour.
Tickets may be purchased at Alilaguna ticket offices,
as well as online.

IL TRAGHETTO SU GONDOLE
Non molti visitatori sanno che al servizio turistico
offerto dalle classiche gondole, si aggiunge il servizio
delle cosiddette gondole “da parada”, cioè
di quel tipo di gondola dedicata a far da spola da
una riva all’altra del Canal Grande.
Antica istituzione, la gondola da traghetto è una
versione “popolare” della gondola oggi usata per
il turismo. Priva di ornamenti e condotta da due
rematori, offre la possibilità - decisamente meno
costosa - di provare l’ebbrezza di un passaggio a
pelo d’acqua lungo la più famosa via d’acqua al
mondo.
Il servizio, reso possibile grazie ad un accordo tra
il Comune di Venezia e l’Associazione gondolieri,
viene svolto tra le due sponde del canale attualmente
da cinque stazi (approdi): Dogana, Santa
Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon, Santa
Sofia.Il costo a tratta è di € 2,00 (o.70 con carta
Imob).
GONDOLA FERRIES
Not many visitors know that in addition to the tourist
service offered by classic gondolas there is the socalled
gondola “da parada” service, that is, a type
of gondola used for shuttling from one Grand Canal
bank to the other.
An ancient tradition, the gondola-ferry is a “downto-earth”
version of the gondolas used nowadays for
tourism. With no decorations and guided by two rowers,
it offers a - much less expensive - opportunity for
experiencing the thrill of passage at water-level over
the most famous waterway in the world.
This service, made possible thanks to an agreement
between the Venice Municipality and the Gondoliers’
Association, is currently carried out between the two
banks of the canal from five stazi (stations): Dogana,
Santa Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon,
Santa Sofia: the cost for one-way is 2.00 € (70 cents
with an Imob card).

su motoscafi veloci chiamati “lance” e contraddistinti

di Venezia, uniche per tutte le società, e il
servizio è accessibile presso le stazioni comunali
Taxi, o qualsiasi pontile pubblico o privato chiamando

As in all cities, when one has to move from one
part to the next in the shortest possible time, the
best solution is a taxi.
Here too the hubs are the respective stazi (stations)
located in crucial parts in town.
This service, organised by several companies,
takes place on fast motor-boats called “lance”,
marked by a horizontal yellow stripe.
As per Venice Municipality regulations, tariffs are
the same for all companies, and service is accessible
