disastrosa acqua alta e continuati con la terribile pandemia, è pronta a rinascere e
lo fa proprio in concomitanza con l’avvio delle celebrazioni per i 1600 anni dalla sua
fondazione.
Venezia torna a vivere e lo fa con quel coraggio e quella determinazione che ha sempre contraddistinto
il suo essere Regina dei mari e simbolo di unità tra lo Stato da Mar e Stato da Tera.
Un delicato equilibrio che da sempre caratterizza le diverse realtà che compongono il suo
paesaggio - dalle isole a tutto il territorio metropolitano- creano un’offerta turistica e una realtà
unica al mondo, che tutti sono chiamati a rispettare e preservare.
Venezia è e sempre sarà una città viva che crede nel futuro: innovazione, nuova manifattura,
porto off-shore e lo sviluppo di Porto Marghera, sono le scommesse per il rilancio di questo

beaches at Lido and Pellestrina can be easily
reached.
Respect the environment and artistic wealth: do
not litter, do not vandalize with graffiti. Do not

QUANDO IL SOGNO DIVENTA ARTE
“Dipingo perché voglio vedere il sogno, prima ancora che si materializzi…”
Così Julio Larraz, artista cubano noto a livello internazionale immagina e sviluppa
le sue opere tenendo lo spettatore sospeso come in un divertente gioco,
tra un’immagine allegorica e una onirica cioè, tra una visione in equilibrio
tra mondo reale e quello frutto dell’immaginazione.
Così con “Ghiaccio d’Estate” – ecco il titolo dell’opera - abbiamo voluto aprire
questo numero ricco di appuntamenti, dedicandolo ad un artista presente
in un’importante mostra a Venezia e, in particolar modo, ad una galleria che
ormai da molti anni, è parte integrante del già prestigioso panorama artistico
della città.
Il riferimento va a Contini Arte, una galleria che oggi possiamo definire come
un vero e proprio tempio dell’arte contemporanea.
Alla sua sede principale, che nulla ha da invidiare ad un vero e proprio museo
- una palazzina modernista posta tra l’élite dei grandi brand internazionali, in
Calle Larga XXII Marzo - affianca ben altre quattro sedi con oltre 1000 mq di
esposizioni, tra queste, quella di Cortina d’Ampezzo.
A dirigerla, come un maestro d’orchestra, c’è Stefano Contini, ideatore, fondatore
e proprietario della galleria che oggi, possiamo dire, interpreta la versione
moderna di quello che fu un ruolo fondamentale di quella storia che
tanto a Venezia, ha contato, quella del “mercante d’arte”.
Il suo fiuto, la sua passione, la sua esperienza ultraquarantennale, l’hanno
portato al successo e a condurre una galleria che oggi è tra le più note in
Italia, e non solo.
L’arte - dice - “è come un arcobaleno, infinitamente affascinante”.
La sua collezione, delineata lungo i quattro piani del palazzo, presenta maestri
del calibro di Fernando Botero, Pablo Atchugarry, Julio Larraz, Igor Mitoraj,
Manolo Valdés, Zoran Music, Park Eun Sun e italiani come Enzo Fiore, Mario
Arlati, Paolo Vegas…
L’attenzione in questi giorni è però puntata su “The Allegory of dream” mostra
retrospettiva dedicata a Julio Larraz, pittore realista considerato tra i maggiori
esponenti dell’arte caraibica.

“I paint because I want to view a dream, before it
even appears…”
Internationally known Cuban artist Julio Larraz
thus imagines and develops his artwork, keeping
the spectator suspended, in an amusing game
between allegorical and dreamlike images, or a
vision balanced between the real world and the
fruit of imagination.
Therefore we wished to open this issue, packed
with events, with “Ice in Summer” - the title of
this artwork - dedicating it to an artist featured
in an important exhibition in Venice, and more in
particular, to a gallery which has been an integral
part for many years of the already prestigious artistic
scenario in town.
The reference is to contini Arte, a gallery we
may define today as a true temple for contemporary
art.
Its headquarters, with nothing to envy from an
actual museum - a modernist building situated
among the elite of top international brands
in Calle Larga XXII Marzo - is flanked by a good
four more venues, totalling over 1000 exhibition
square metres, the one at Cortina d’Ampezzo
among them.
Directing it, like an orchestra conductor, is Stefano
contini, the creator, founder and owner of
the gallery, who may be said nowadays to embody
the modern version of what used to be a
fundamental historical role which counted a lot
in Venice, the "art merchant".
His instinct, his passion, his experience over forty
years, have all led him to success, and to head a
gallery which is among the bestknown
in Italy nowadays, and not
only. Art - he says - "is like a rainbow,
endlessly fascinating".
His collection, set out along the
four floors of the building, features
masters of the calibre of fernando
Botero, Pablo Atchugarry,
Julio Larraz, Igor Mitoraj, Manolo
Valdés, Zoran Music, Park Eun Sun
and Italians such as Enzo fiore,
Mario Arlati, Paolo Vegas…
However, these days the focus is
on “The Allegory of dream” the
retrospective exhibition dedicated
to Julio Larraz, the realist painter
deemed among the top exponents
of Caribbean art.
SETTEMBRE CON I GRANDI EVENTI
Chi conosce Venezia ma soprattutto chi ama vivere
la città anche attraverso i suoi eventi, sa che c’è
un periodo che non potrà lasciarsi scappare… è il
mese di settembre.
Avvantaggiato da un clima che coglie i piaceri del
passaggio di stagione, si distingue da sempre per
una sequenza di appuntamenti che sanno attrarre
l’attenzione internazionale e, con questa, quella dei
molti ospiti in città. Ecco in sintesi i principali.
La Mostra del Cinema.
Come consueto apre in pratica il mese, anche se
in effetti, ha da poco debuttato con le proiezioni di
preapertura e con il film Comandante, diretto da
Edoardo De Angelis.
La Mostra internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica
- questa la dizione esatta – si pone ancora una
volta come l’evento più atteso del mese.
Giunta alla prestigiosa ottantesima edizione – la
prima è del 1932 – si presenta, diretta ancora una
volta da Alberto Barbera, con una programmazione
di 82 nuovi lungometraggi suddivisi nelle
classiche sezioni, a partire da quella “a Concorso”
denominata Venezia 80, che presenterà 23 opere.
Qui, tra i molti registi italiani si inseriranno per la
corsa al Leone d’Oro nomi del calibro di David Fincher,
Yorgos Lanthimos, Bradley Cooper e Sofia
Coppola.
Altri importanti protagonisti come Woody Allen,
Roman Polański e Wes Anderson tornano invece a
Venezia tra le 19 opere della sezione Fuori Concorso
A queste prime due sezioni si affiancheranno ancora
per le opere in Concorso, Orizzonti e Orizzonti
Extra (nuove tendenze espressive) e Biennale College
Cinema.

Completano infine il calendario delle proiezioni le sezioni Venezia Classici, con
film restaurati e documentari sulla storia del Cinema; Cortometraggi; Serie TV

Nella stessa serata, sabato 9 settembre, l’attrice Caterina Murino condurrà la
cerimonia di chiusura in occasione della quale saranno annunciati i Leoni e
gli altri premi ufficiali.
Per quanto riguarda i Leoni, quelli già assegnati, “alla carriera”, sono andati
quest’anno alla regista Liliana Cavani e all’attore Tony Leung Chiu-wai.
La Mostra internazionale
di Architettura.
Promossa da La Biennale di Venezia
è il grande evento espositivo
dell’anno.
Aperta già dal mese di maggio si
presenta in questa sua diciottesima
edizione con un tema che
sempre più drammaticamente
tocca il mondo intero, quello del
sempre più complesso rapporto
tra uomo e pianeta, accentrando la
sua attenzione sull’Africa e, inevitabilmente,
sulla sua diaspora.
Il laboratorio del futuro, questo
il titolo della Mostra curata Lesley
Lokko, prende idealmente avvio
dal Padiglione Centrale ai Giardini,
per poi snodarsi lungo il complesso
dell’Arsenale giungendo fino
al Forte Marghera, in terraferma.
L’esposizione comprende naturalmente
le Partecipazioni nazionali
(quest’anno 63) con singole mostre allestite nei Padiglioni ai Giardini e all’Arsenale
oltre che nel centro storico.
Si aggiungono una decina di esposizioni “Collaterali” diffuse anche queste nel
tessuto urbano della città. Chiusura prevista il 26 novembre.
Le Mostre d’Arte.
Assieme ai musei si confermano come una delle attrazioni della città.
Tra queste, segnaliamo Edmondo Bacci, artista veneziano del Novecento,
presentata dalla Collezione Peggy Guggenheim (fino al 18 settembre); le
mostre Chronorama e Icone proposte dalla Fondazione Pinault nelle sedi di
Palazzo Grassi e Punta della Dogana, rispettivamente sulla fotografia degli ex
archivi Condé Nast e sull’arte contemporanea.
E ancora: l’esposizione Everybody Talks about the Weather presentata dalla
Fondazione Prada a Ca’ Corner della Regina, inedito progetto di ricerca
sulla correlazione tra arti visive e tempo meteorologico; quella dedicata alla
potenzialità dell’essere umano “A World of Potential” con la coinvolgente installazione
di Arthur Duff, allestita presso i bellissimi spazi di recente restaurati
delle Procuratie Vecchie; sull’opera dell’innovativo architetto giapponese
Kengo Kuma a Palazzo Franchetti; sui grandi maestri del Vetro boemo alle
Stanze del Vetro nell’isola di San Giorgio; sulle immagini di Paolo Pellegrin
presso le Stanze della Fotografia, sempre a San Giorgio e sull'opera di Julio
Larraz alla Galleria Contini

La Regata Storica.
E’ il più scenografico spettacolo sull’acqua di Venezia e, in pratica, l’appuntamento
clou delle tradizione veneziana.
In programma come sempre la prima domenica del mese (3 settembre) si
sviluppa lungo l’incomparabile scenario del Canal Grande su due fasi: la prima,
composta da un corteo storico in costume che rievoca l’accoglienza riservata
nel 1489 a Caterina Cornaro, sposa del Re di Cipro; la seconda, da una
serie di accese sfide su imbarcazioni tipiche da regata.
La manifestazione, che si svolgerà nel pomeriggio, sarà visibile a tutti lungo il
percorso, da ponti e rive.

della vita della città.
Da sabato 9 a domenica 17 settembre
l’attenzione sarà puntata su
La Settimana veneziana del Vetro,
una manifestazione nata nel 2017
per celebrare, supportare e promuovere
l’arte del vetro, l’attività
artistica ed economica per la quale
Venezia è conosciuta nel mondo da
più di mille anni.
Un programma di oltre duecento
eventi offrirà nel periodo la straordinaria
opportunità per conoscere
e approfondire questa materia che
a Venezia viene considerata come
una vera e propria arte.
Tra le novità di questa edizione il ritorno
di The Floating Furnace, una
fornace galleggiante che offrirà la possibilità di assistere gratuitamente a dimostrazioni
di lavorazione del vetro affacciati sul Canal Grande.
Il Premio Campiello di Letteratura.
E’ un altro dei grandi emblemi di Venezia. Riconosciuto come uno dei massimi
riconoscimenti italiani nel campo della letteratura giunge quest’anno alla
sua sessantunesima edizione.
Istituito nel 1962 dagli Industriali del Veneto, promosso e gestito dalla Fondazione
Il Campiello, composta dalle Associazioni Industriali del Veneto, si presenterà
sabato 16 settembre per la sua serata finale (esclusivamente ad invito).
Nell’occasione, la Giuria dei Trecento lettori proclamerà tra la cinquina finalista,
il romanzo vincitore. Walter Veltroni rappresenterà la Giuria dei Letterati.
Il Salone dell’Alto Artigianato Italiano.
Rappresenta nell’ambito delle grandi esposizioni, la novità assoluta del panorama
veneziano.
Dal 28 settembre al primo ottobre porterà in scena in due padiglioni dell’antico
Arsenale, le Tese delle Nappe e di San Cristoforo, il meglio della produzione
artigianale italiana.
Qui si potrà scoprire l’Italia delle eccellenze artigianali con produzioni che andranno
dalla ceramica ai tessuti pregiati, dalle opere in vetro soffiato ai gioielli,
dagli elementi di arredo agli accessori, dall’illuminazione alla lavorazione dei
metalli e delle pietre, dall’oggettistica all’intarsio del legno, fino alle arti del

Who knows Venice, but especially who loves to experience the city through its events
as well, knows there is an unmissable period... the month of September.
Benefiting from a climate capturing the delights of seasonal change, it has always
been characterised by a sequence of rendez-vous capable of attracting international
attention, and naturally, even that of the many guests in town.
Here is a summary of the main ones.
The Film Festival.
It opens the month, as indeed is customary, even though in fact it has just debuted
with the film Comandante, directed by Edoardo De Angelis. The International Cinematographic
Art Exhibition - in its exact wording – is once again the most anticipated
event of the month.
now at its eightieth edition - the first one was in 1932 - directed once more by Alberto
Barbera, it is presenting a programme featuring 82 new feature films divided into
its classic sections, beginning from the “competition”, named Venezia 80, featuring
23 films. Here, among the many italian directors, names of the calibre of David Fincher,
Yorgos lanthimos, Bradley Cooper and sofia Coppola will enter the contest for
the Golden Lion.
other important names such as Woody Allen, roman Polański and Wes Anderson
are returning to Venice instead among the 19 films of the Fuori Concorso (Out of
competition section).
these first two sections for the films in Competition will moreover be accompanied
by Orizzonti (new expressive trends) and Biennale College Cinema.
finally, the screenings calendar will be completed by the Venezia Classici section,
with restored films, and documentaries on the history of Film; Short films; TV Series
and Venice Immersive, the latter dedicated to creative expression media.
This extensive billboard will end Fuori Concorso with “La sociedad de la nieve” dramatic
film by spanish director J. A. Bayona.
On that same evening, Saturday 9 September, actress Caterina Murino will conduct
the closing ceremony during which the lions and the other official awards will be
announced.
Regarding this year's, already awarded, "Lifetime Achievement" Lions, they went to
filmmaker liliana Cavani and to actor tony leung Chiu-wai.
The international Architecture exhibition.
Promoted by the Venice Biennale, it is the major exhibition event of the year.
Open since the month of May, on its eighteenth edition it features a theme increasingly
and dramatically touching the entire world, that is, the ever more complex relationship
between man and the planet, shining the spotlight upon Africa and, inevitably,
upon its diaspora.
The Laboratory of the future, the title of this Exhibition by curator Lesley Lokko,
ideally starting from the Central Pavilion at the Giardini, winds along the Arsenal
complex and reaches forte Marghera on the mainland.
The exhibition naturally includes the national Participations (63 this year) with individual
showcases set up in the Pavilions at the Giardini and at the Arsenal, as well as
in the historic centre in town.
About a dozen further "Collateral" exhibitions add themselves to those, also spread
throughout the town's urban fabric. Closure scheduled for 26 November.

The Historical Regatta.
It is the most spectacular show on water in Venice, and indeed the top event within
Venetian tradition.
scheduled as always on the first sunday of the month (3 september), it winds
along the incomparable scenery of the grand Canal in two stages: the first, consisting
of a historical procession in costume recalling the welcome given in 1489
to Caterina Cornaro, bride of the King of Cyprus; the second, of a series of intense
challenges aboard typical regatta boats.
The event, which will take place in the afternoon, will be visible to everyone from
the bridges and quays along the circuit.
The Venice Glass Week.

from Saturday 9 to Sunday 17 September, the focus of attention will be on the Venetian
Glass Week, an event born in 2017 to celebrate, support and promote the
art of glass, that artistic and economic activity for which Venice has been known
for over a thousand years, throughout the world. Over the week, a programme
of over two hundred events will offer an extraordinary opportunity for learning
more about this topic, which is considered a true art in Venice.
Among this edition's novelties there is the return of the Floating Furnace, a floating
kiln offering the opportunity to attend free glass-making demonstrations,
overlooking the Grand Canal.
The campiello Prize for Literature.
It is another of the great symbols of Venice. Acknowledged as one of the top
italian awards in the field of literature, it reaches its sixty-first edition this year.
Established in 1962 by the Industrialists of the Veneto, promoted and managed
by Il Campiello foundation, composed by the Veneto Industrialists Associations,
it will present its final evening on saturday 16 september. on this occasion, the
three Hundred readers' Jury will announce the winner novel among the five finalists.
Walter Veltroni will represent the Literature Jury (admission by invitation
only).
The Salon of High italian craftsmanship.
It represents an absolute novelty within the Venetian scenario of major exhibitions.
from 28 September to 1st October it will stage the best of Italian craftsmanship
at two pavilions inside the ancient Arsenal, the Tese delle Nappe and the
San Cristoforo.
Here it will be possible to discover Italy's artisan excellence, with productions
ranging from ceramic to precious fabric, from blown-glass work to jewellery,
from furnishings to accessories, from illumination to metal- and stone-work, from
objets-d'art to wood-inlay, up to the arts of restoration, tailoring and sculpture.

Dopo l’intervento di valorizzazione

torna a far parte del percorso
espositivo di Palazzo Ducale.
L’allestimento racconta la storia
dei 120 Dogi che hanno governato
la città con dipinti, sculture
e documenti che illustrano la
figura del Doge e la sua importanza
nella Repubblica di Venezia.
Il percorso si conclude con
l’abdicazione dell’ultimo Doge,
Ludovico Manin nel 1797, che
segnò la fine della Repubblica.
Per tutta l’estate Palazzo Ducale
sarà aperto fino alle 23.00
(ultimo ingresso ore 22.00) ogni
venerdì e sabato e lunedì 14 e
martedì 15 agosto.

Doge’s Apartment is returning as a
part of the Ducal Palace exhibition circuit.
The showcase recounts the history
of the 120 Doges who ruled the
city, with paintings, sculptures and
documents illustrating the Doge’s
figure and his importance within
the Republic of Venice. The itinerary
ends with the abdication of the last
Doge, Ludovico Manin in 1797, which
marked the end of the Republic.
Throughout the summer, the Ducal
Palace will be open until 11pm (last
admissions at 10pm) every friday
and Saturday, and on Monday 14 and
Tuesday 15 August.

Il laboratorio del futuro.
Una grande mostra a tema suddivisa in sei parti
con la partecipazione di 89 artisti di cui oltre

L'energia della luce.
Un’ottantina di opere, tra
dipinti e disegni inediti,
provenienti dall’Archivio
Edmondo Bacci, musei e
collezioni private nazionali
e internazionali, riportano idealmente
a Ca’ Venier dei Leoni l’artista
veneziano tanto caro a Peggy Guggenheim.
Curata da Chiara Bertola, la mostra si concentra
sul periodo più lirico e felice della produzione
di Bacci, ovvero gli anni ’50, che hanno segnato
il successo nonché la consacrazione dell’artista,
avvenuta nel 1958 nel corso della XXIX Biennale
Internazionale d’Arte di Venezia.
Tra le opere esposte quella che Alfred Barr, allora
direttore del Museum of Modern Art di New
York, acquistò nel 1953. La tela, nota come “Avvenimento
13 R”, oggi parte della collezione del museo
newyorkese, ritorna eccezionalmente in Italia,
per essere esposta per la prima volta al pubblico.
La mostra chiude con un'importante opera di
Giambattista Tiepolo, tributo alla tradizione pittorica
veneziana.

Capolavori attraverso i secoli.
Allestita negli spazi del Museo Correr, a partire
dalla splendida Sala della Biblioteca Pisani, questa
mostra si presenta come sintesi artistico-concettuale
del significato di Giustizia.
Attraverso sei sezioni, corrispondenti allo svilupparsi
della Figura allegorica, dagli albori delle civiltà
fino all’età moderna, vengono esposti reperti
archeologici, monete, medaglie, documenti e
opere realizzate da importanti artisti, dal Medioevo
al ‘900.
L’esposizione si conclude con una serie di scene
dedicate ad atti e protagonisti di Giustizia immortalati
come eroi e santi e da una selezione di tele
firmate da grandi artisti che raffigurano episodi
legati al tema.
Ideata e organizzata dal Centro Europeo per il Turismo
e la Cultura di Roma in sinergia con Fondazione
Musei Civici di Venezia, la mostra resterà
aperta al pubblico fino al 3 settembre.

Around eighty artworks, between unpublished
paintings and drawings, from the Edmondo Bacci
Archive, national and international museums
and private collections, ideally bringing back this
Venetian artist so dear to Peggy Guggenheim at
Ca' Venier dei Leoni.
By curator Chiara Bertola, the exhibition concentrates
on the most lyrical and happy period
in Bacci's production, or the 1950s, marking the
artist's success as well as his consecration, which
took place in 1958 during the 29th International
Art Biennale of Venice. Among the works
displayed, was the one which Alfred Barr, then
the director of the Museum of Modern Art in
New York, bought in 1953. This canvas, known
as "Event 13 R", and now part of the New York
museum collection, is returning exceptionally to
Italy to be exhibited in public for the first time.

This exhibition, set up within the correr museum
venues, beginning from the splendid Pisani Library
Hall, is presented as an artistic, conceptual
synthesis of the meaning of Justice.
Archaeological finds, coins, medals, documents
and artworks by important artists from the Middle
Ages to the 1900s, are on display through six
sections, corresponding to the development of
the allegorical figure, from the dawn of civilizations
to the modern age. The exhibition ends with
a series of scenes dedicated to deeds and protagonists
of Justice immortalised as heroes and
saints, and a selection of canvases signed by great
artists depicting episodes related to this theme.
The exhibition, conceived and organised by the
European Centre for Tourism and Culture in Rome,
in synergy with the City Museums foundation in
Venice, will remain open to the public until 3/9.

di Paolo Pellegrin.
Allestita nel nuovo centro espositivo delle Stanze
della Fotografia, iniziativa congiunta di Marsilio
Arte e Fondazione Giorgio Cini, questa mostra
presenta oltre 300 scatti del noto fotografo romano
impegnato attraverso i suoi reportage a documentare
i principali eventi del nostro tempo.
Considerato tra i maggiori fotografi italiani viventi,
membro dell’agenzia Magnum dal 2005, si è affermato
come vincitore di undici edizioni del World
Press Photo Award.
Si affianca, allestita al primo piano, la mostra
TAROCCHI di Pino Settanni, noto come “pittore
con la macchina fotografica”:
La mostra si compone di 78 fotografie che esprimono
la poetica artistica del fotografo, attraverso
il ritratto, la teatralità della scena e il colore.
Entrambe le esposizioni, curate da Denis Curti
e Annalisa D’Angelo, resteranno visibili fino al 7

The Allegory of Dream
Torna in Italia con una importante esposizione
presso la Galleria Contini Arte il noto artista cubano,
autore geniale e poliedrico in grado di affrontare
tematiche diverse, tutte accomunate da
un linguaggio onirico e surreale, ma sempre legato
a temi di attualità.
Il percorso, a carattere retrospettivo, mira attraverso
un’accurata selezione di olii su tela, disegni
ed acquerelli realizzati dagli anni ’80 ad oggi,
a celebrare la carriera dell’artista attraverso una
serie di capolavori ispirati al surrealismo ed alla

che l’artista dedica a Venezia e in particolare agli
spazi della Libreria Sansoviniana.
Tema centrale dell’opera il profondo simbolismo
del libro, come rappresentato nella galleria dei famosi
dipinti murali dedicati ai Filosofi, in cui sono
ritratti illustri uomini dell’antichità che reggono
grandi e pesanti libri.

Set up in the new Rooms of Photography showcase
centre, a joint initiative by Marsilio Arte and
the Giorgio Cini foundation, this exhibition presents
over 300 shots by the well-known Roman
photographer, engaged in documenting the main
events of our time through his reportages.
Considered one of the major living Italian photographers,
a member of the Magnum agency
since 2005, he has established himself as the winner
of eleven editions of the World Press Photo
Award.
It is flanked by the TAROTS exhibition, set up on
the first floor, by Pino Settanni, known as the
"painter with the camera": 78 photos expressing
this photographer's artistic poetics through portraits,
stage theatrics and colour.
The exhibitions, by curators Denis Curti and Annalisa
D’Angelo, will remain visible until 7 January

diverse themes, all having a dreamlike, surreal

The circuit, a retrospective one, aims to celebrate
the artist's career through an accurate selection
of oils on canvas, drawings and watercolours
created from the Eighties to our day, through a
series of masterpieces inspired by surrealism and
metaphysics.

collaboration with the Marciana National Library,
this exhibition presents the second cycle
of works dedicated to Venice by the artist and in
particular to the Sansovinian Library areas. The
central theme of this work is books’ deep symbolism,
as illustrated in the gallery with famous
frescoes dedicated to Philosophers, where illustrious
men in antiquity are portrayed holding
large, ponderous books.

Dalle pratiche di ascolto alla sound art.
Prendendo avvio da alcuni materiali conservati
nell’Archivio Storico della Fondazione Bevilacqua La
Masa, questo progetto si presenta come una ricerca
su alcune forme di espressione artistica legate ai
linguaggi del suono, dell’ascolto e della parola.
L’indagine si estende alle ricerche più recenti e
alla produzione di una nuova generazione di artisti,
quelli della cosiddetta “ultima avanguardia
veneziana”, molti dei quali hanno esposto, o gravitato,
attorno alla Bevilacqua La Masa.

• A WORLd OF POTenTiAL
Hosted on the third floor at the Old Procuratie,
the headquarters of The Human Safety net, a
foundation created by the Generali group with
the aim of offering new potential to vulnerable
persons, this exhibition, by curator Orna Cohen,
is presented as an experiential journey in which
visitors are invited into a sequence of experiences
which increase their self-awareness and the
perception of the world at the same time.
In the final part, visitors will be able to gather
information about the foundation’s activity and
to donate half of their ticket cost to one of the
programmes (freely chosen) managed by the
foundation itself.
Arthur duff’s new installation “The Hungriest
eye. The blossoming of Potential" is part of the
circuit, as a new collaborative space where visitors
can take part in the creation of an artwork,
expressing their potential.

• BOHemiAn GLASS: the great masters.
The Rooms of Glass are reopening with an important
exhibition dedicated to Bohemian glass, a
long-term cultural project dedicated to glass art
and design. The exhibition, organised in collaboration
with the Prague Museum of Decorative
Arts, will present six great masters of contemporary
glass sculpture, recounting the evolution
of glass in Bohemia after the Second World War:
from its traditional categorisation under applied
and decorative art, to its employment in the creation
of important abstract sculptures.

Glass Labyrinths series complete the circuit.

Architectures for the stage
for the occasion of the Architecture Biennale,
in this exhibition the Giorgio cini Foundation is
illustrating the opus and the vision of architect,
designer and scenographer Luciano Baldessari,

artworks by contemporary art scene protagonists:

De Dominicis, Clemente, Cucchi, Schifano, up to
the other half of avant-garde with Abramovic,

Gestiti dalla Fondazione Musei Civici
di Venezia nota con l’acronimo
MUVE, rappresentano una parte, con oltre
700.000 opere d’arte, dell’immenso patrimonio
culturale della città.
Sono in tutto undici musei gestiti da un unico
sistema che MUVE valorizza anche attraverso
importanti mostre d’arte.
Tra questi quelli di Palazzo Ducale, del Correr,
di Ca’ Pesaro, di Ca’Rezzonico…
L’ingresso alle sedi può avvenire con un singolo
biglietto o tramite il sistema del circuito
“Museum Pass” o del percorso integrato dei

like this city’s. Set inside fine palaces and ancient abodes
within a radius of a few hundred metres, they are an integral
part of the huge cultural heritage the city assimilated over its
centuries of history.
But how to choose a museum, or museums, to most attract
one’s curiosity and desire for knowledge? Here in brief, is how
to find your way around.
Information in detail follows instead about the major ones.
city museums
Managed by the Venice City Museums foundation
known by its acronym MUVE, they represent a part of
the city’s huge cultural heritage, with over 700,000 artworks.
Eleven museums in total, run by a single body, boosted by
MUVE also with notable art exhibitions.
They include the Ducal Palace, the Correr, Ca’Pesaro, Ca’Rezzonico…
Entry to such venues is by a single ticket, or the
“Museum Pass” circuit system, or the “Saint Mark’s Museums”
integrated circuit.
State museums
five in town and three in Venetian territory, these
museums managed by the Ministry of Culture - Regional
Directorate for Museums - are part of a museum system
featuring some of the area’s top museums, including the
Galleries of the Accademia and the Giorgio franchetti Gallery
in Venice among others, and Villa Pisani in Stra along the
Brenta Riviera.
Other museums
This section lists privately-managed museums or
ones run by individual foundations. We may here
mention for importance the Peggy guggenheim Collection;
the Querini stampalia Picture-gallery; the Palazzo Cini collections.

and religious museums
Churches and devotion schools, the latter being ancient
town guilds, are also part of the city’s museum heritage.
Among them, for importance, we find the basilica of Saint
Mark at the very top with its precious museum, the monumental
basilicas of the Frari and of saints giovanni & Paolo;
the Scuole Grandi of San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista, the
Carmini, san giorgio dei greci, true art coffers; plus the Jewish
and the Hellenic ones among the museums.

are the Veneto villas, exceptional examples of harmony amid

IL VETRO:
UN’ARTE TRAMANDATA DALL’ANTICHITà, UNA
TRADIzIONE CHE CONTINUA A VIVERE.
Il Museo del Vetro di Murano raccoglie notevoli
reperti vitrei d’epoca romana (I/IV sec. d.C.) provenienti
dalle necropoli e centri più importanti
dell’arco nord adriatico. Vi sono esposti rari esemplari
di vetro murrino, infinite declinazioni vetro
millefiori a nastro e in vetro mosaico, filigrana del
tipo a ritortolì e a reticello, olle, bicchieri, coppe,
balsamari e monili che appartenevano alla quotidianità
degli antichi romani prima di essere posti
nel corredo del defunto. Sono numerose le collane
in pasta vitrea: le perle erano un indicatore di
rango indossate come amuleti.
Appena entrati nel museo i primi oggetti ad attirare
l’attenzione sono gli strumenti di lavoro del maestro
vetraio: semplici pinze in ferro per la modellazione
della pasta vitrea incandescente, canne
per la soffiatura (la soffiatura è un’invenzione dei
romani del I sec. a.C.), stampi in legno, strumenti
ancora in uso oggi presso i maestri muranesi: le
tecniche di lavorazione sono immutate e tramandate
di generazione in generazione.
Visitando le fornaci vi accorgerete che nonostante
la semplicità degli strumenti adoperati per realizzare
oggetti d’arte unici, sono l’esperienza, la
virtuosistica maestria nella modellazione a caldo,
la continua ricerca e nuove tecniche che stimolano
la creatività e invenzione. Questo equilibrio
tra tradizione e innovazione consente ai maestri
di esprimere il sublime attraverso la propria arte.

An ART FROm AnTiQUiTy
The Murano Glass Museum has a collection of
remarkable Roman era glass (C1st - C4th AD)
excavated from necropolises and the primary archaeological
centres of the northern Adriatic arc.
On display are rare examples of murrina glass,
the many variations of millefiori glass, millefiori
in mosaic glass, filigrees of the ritortolì and reticello
type, ollas, glasses, balsam jars and jewels
such as glass paste necklace: pearls being an indicator
of rank which were worn as amulets. All
were once a part of the daily life of ancient Romans
before becoming valuable items placed in
their graves.
As you enter the museum, your attention is
drawn to the work tools of the master glassmaker:
simple iron tongs for modelling the incandescent
glass paste, pipes for blowing (glass blowing
was an invention of the Romans dating to C1st
BC) and heavy and difficult to handle wooden
moulds. These are all tools still in use today by
the Murano Masters: the manufacturing techniques
are unchanged, handed down from generation
to generation.
Visiting the museum and the glass furnaces today
you notice despite the simplicity of the tools
highly refined and sophisticated objects are
created through a combination of factors: the
Masters long experience and virtuosic skill in hot
modelling, continuous research in materials and
new techniques which spur creativity and invention.
This balancing of tradition and innovation
enables the Murano masters to express the sublime
through their art & craft.

Venezia è una città-isola, o meglio, è una città formata da una moltitudine
di piccolissime isole (circa 110): una configurazione praticamente unica al
mondo. Il suo accesso sembrerebbe quindi complesso. Ma così non è.
Venezia mantiene un “cordone ombelicale” con il mondo, o meglio con la
terraferma (come i veneziani chiamano tutto ciò che è fuori dall’isola).
Questo è il ponte della Libertà, un tempo chiamato Littorio, dal periodo della
sua costruzione, gli anni Trenta.
La sua origine è però antecedente e risale a metà Ottocento, esattamente al
1846 data dell’inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria Milano-Venezia.
Da quel tempo, la città diventò raggiungibile non solo via acqua ma anche via
terra… sarà una svolta epocale.

Venice is an island-city, or rather, it is a city made up of a multitude of tiny islands (about 110): a configuration
that is practically unique in the world. Accessing it would thus seem complex. But this is not the case.
Venice maintains an “umbilical cord” with the world, or rather with the mainland (as the Venetians call
everything off the island). It is the Libertà Bridge, once called Littorio from its construction period, the 1930s.
However, its origin is earlier and dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, precisely to 1846, the inauguration
date of the Milan-Venice railway line. Since then, the city not only became accessible by water but also by land…
it would be the turning point of an era. But here are the main access points to the city today, in brief.

I TERMINAL - GLI ACCESSI VIA TERRA
PIAzzALE ROMA
E’ lo storico terminal automobilistico di Venezia
dove spiccano le due grandi autorimesse pubbliche:
il Garage San Marco e il Garage Comunale
AVM (quest’ultimo con un’area predisposta anche
alle biciclette).
Il vasto Piazzale, di recente collegato da un moderno
ponte pedonale alla Stazione ferroviaria (il ponte
della Costituzione), fa attualmente da riferimento
al servizio di collegamento urbano ed extraurbano
con la terraferma.
Da qui arrivano e si diramano le corse dei servizi
pubblici (Actv e Atvo) e privati (taxi) che collegano
Venezia alla città metropolitana e ai due aeroporti,
quello di Tessera e di Treviso.
Un servizio su monorotaia (People Mover) collega
inoltre Piazzale Roma all’isola del Tronchetto.
L’ISOLA dEL TRONChETTO
Allacciata da una “bretella” al ponte automobilistico,
ospita il Venezia Tronchetto Parking (uno dei
più grandi garage in Europa) dove possono trovare
posto quasi 4000 mezzi compresi camper e
motociclette.
Al suo esterno, a pochi metri, si trovano gli imbarcaderi
dai quali si dipartono le linee del servizio pubblico
Actv (Linea 2) e privato per il cuore della città.
Una linea speciale denominata people moover
collega in pochi minuti l’isola al terminal automobilistico
di Piazzale Roma.
L’isola ospita inoltre un porticciolo e il casello di
accesso al servizio di Ferry-boat della linea 17 di
Actv che collega il Tronchetto alle isole del Lido
e di Pellestrina.
LA STAzIONE FERROVIARIA dI SANTA LuCIA
Situata in posizione ideale, questa primaria porta
di accesso alla città, posta al termine del ponte
della Libertà si affaccia all’ultimo lembo del
Canal Grande.
Qui sono disposti gli imbarcaderi da dove si diramano
le principali linee Actv per la città e le isole:
la linea 1 (tutte le fermate) e 2 (diretta) per il Canal
Grande e il Canale della Giudecca; la 4.1 e 4.2; 5.1
e 5.2 (circolari) per laguna nord e Murano).
Alla stazione di recente ammodernata e ampliata
con servizi e centri commerciali, arrivano tutte le
linee veloci che collegano Venezia alle principali
città italiane ed europee.

PIAZZALE ROMA
It is the historic car terminal in Venice, where two
big public garages stand out: the San Marco Garage
and the AVM Municipal Garage (the latter
also has an area for bicycles).
This large Square, linked recently to the railway
station by a modern pedestrian bridge (the Costituzione
Bridge), is currently the hub for urban
and extra-urban connection services with the
mainland.
Public (Actv and Atvo) and private (taxis) services
arrive and go from here, connecting Venice to its
metropolitan city and the two airports of Tessèra
and Treviso.
A monorail service (People Mover) also connects
Piazzale Roma to the Tronchetto island.
THE TRONCHETTO ISLAND
Connected to the automobile bridge by a flyover,
it houses the Venezia Tronchetto Parking (one
of the largest garages in Europe), where almost
4000 vehicles may be accommodated, including
camper vans and motorcycles.
Outside, a few metres away, are the boat-stops
from where public ACTV service (Line 2) and private
lines depart for the heart of the city.
A special train line called People Mover links this
island to the Piazzale Roma cars terminal in just
a few minutes.
The island also hosts a small port and toll-booth
for boarding the Actv ferry-boat line 17 service,
linking Tronchetto to the Lido and Pellestrina islands.
THE SANTA LUCIA RAILWAY STATION
Ideally located, this primary gateway to the city
at the end of the Libertà Bridge overlooks the
last stretch of the Grand Canal.
Here are the boat stops from where the main
ACTV lines lead to the city and the islands: lines 1
(all stops) and 2 (direct) for the Grand Canal and
the giudecca Canal; n. 4.1 and 4.2; 5.1 and 5.2 (circle)
for the northern lagoon and Murano.
All the rapid lines connecting Venice to the main

AEROPORTO MARCO POLO - VENEzIA
Posto ai lembi della laguna nord di Venezia, a circa
13 chilometri dalla città è oggi il terzo aeroporto
per numero di passeggeri in Italia.
Gestito dalla società Save e ampliato nel 2017 è
oggi dotato di una vasta area di servizi, oltre che
di parcheggi e collegamenti con mezzi pubblici
sia via terra che via acqua gestiti rispettivamente
dalle compagnie Atvo (con un servizio Shuttle su
Piazzale Roma) e Alilaguna con motoscafi diretti
sul centro città e le isole.
Vi operano numerose compagnie aeree con una
folta rete di voli nazionali e internazionali.
AEROPORTO ANTONIO CANOVA - TREVISO
wNato come scalo per voli charter e cargo l’aeroporto
di Treviso grazie ad importanti investimenti
che hanno di recente ampliato pista ed aerostazione
è a tutti gli effetti tra i maggiori aeroporti
della regione Veneto.
Posto a pochi chilometri dalla città di Treviso e circa
a trenta dalla città di Venezia oggi fa da base
ad una delle massime compagnie internazionali
Low Cost. Gestito dalla stessa società dell’aeroporto
veneziano è collegato con la città tramite la
linea Shuttle di Atvo.

Tra i più suggestivi aeroporti italiani, esempio perfettamente
conservato di architettura degli anni
Trenta, l’aeroporto Nicelli è noto come il più antico
scalo commerciale italiano, e considerato da una
speciale classifica, tra le più belle superfici aeroportuali
al mondo.
La sua pista in erba fa oggi da scalo ad elicotteri e
piccoli aerei charter e privati con motori ad elica.
Posto in un’estremità dell’isola del Lido è raggiungibile
via acqua con linee private o il servizio ferry-boat
della linea 17 Actv.

Located on the edge of Venice’s northern lagoon,
about 13 kilometres from town, today
it is the third airport in terms of passenger
numbers in Italy. Managed by the Save company
and expanded in 2017, it is now equipped with a
vast services area, as well as parking and public
transport links both by land and by water, managed
respectively by Atvo (with a Shuttle service
to Piazzale Roma), and Alilaguna with direct motor-launches
to the city centre and its islands.
Several airlines operate there, with a large network
of national and international flights.

Born as a hub for charter and cargo flights,
thanks to major investments which have recently
expanded its runway and terminal Treviso airport
is effectively one of the major airports in the
Veneto region.
Located a few kilometres from the city of Treviso
and about thirty from the city of Venice, today it
is a base for one of the leading international Low
Cost companies. Managed by the same company
as the Venetian airport, it is connected to the city
by an Atvo Shuttle busline.
niceLLi airPort - LiDo of Venice
One of the most evocative Italian airports, a perfectly
preserved example of 1930s architecture,
the Nicelli airport is known as the oldest Italian
commercial airport, and deemed by a special
ranking to be one of the most beautiful airport
areas worldwide. Its grass runway is now a hub
for helicopters and small charter and private
planes with propeller engines.
Located at one end of the Lido island, it may be
reached by water with private taxis or by the
ACTV ferry-boat line 17 service.

Sono molte le opportunità per girare e scoprire Venezia.
La prima scelta, forse la migliore, è senza dubbio – grazie alle sue distanze ridotte
- quella di muoversi a piedi. A volte però, la mancanza di tempo, i bagagli pesanti e,
non ultimo, l’impossibilità fisica di attraversare la laguna diventa comodo, oltre che
piacevole dal punto di vista paesaggistico, salire a bordo di un mezzo di trasporto.
nella città lagunare non esistono bus, ne metro, ne auto-taxi e… nemmeno biciclette.
Ecco allora che i mezzi di trasporto pubblici sono vaporetti o battelli (così li chiamano
da un vecchio retaggio i veneziani) e motoscafi veloci, chiamati “lance”, che fanno la
funzione dei taxi, fino ad arrivare a quel mezzo, tra i più iconici al mondo, che per secoli
ha contraddistinto il trasporto di persone lungo i rii (canali) della città: la gondola.
Ecco qualche nota a riguardo per chi appunto, appena arrivato a Venezia, volesse
spostarsi usando i mezzi di navigazione.

E’ l’Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano.
La sua flotta di imbarcazioni raggiunge ogni punto
della città, comprese le isole maggiori.
Autobus e tram collegano invece il terminal di
Piazzale Roma alla città metropolitana.
Una linea speciale, la 17, collega invece con una
spola di ferry-boat il Terminal automobilistico del
Tronchetto, all’isola del Lido e, a proseguire, quella
di Pellestrina.
Dal 2020 ACTV sta investendo sul trasporto “green”
puntando ad inserire lungo la principale via
d’acqua della città, il Canal Grande, i primi mezzi
a propulsione elettrica eliminando così sia l’inquinamento
acustico che quello dell’aria, favorendo
allo stesso tempo, la riduzione del moto ondoso.

La compagnia nasce come servizio di collegamento
acqueo tra l’Aeroporto Marco Polo e i punti
focali della città: i terminal del Tronchetto, di Piazzale
Roma e della Stazione, le zone di San Marco e
di Rialto, le isole della Giudecca, del Lido e di Murano.
La rete di navigazione è costituita da quattro
linee (più una turistica) contraddistinte ognuna da
un colore.
I biglietti si possono acquistare oltre che online,
presso le biglietterie Alilaguna.

MoVing in Venice
The opportunities for getting around and discovering
Venice are many.
A first choice, maybe the best, is no doubt -
thanks to its short distances - to move on foot.
But sometimes, due to lack of time, heavy luggage
and, last but not least, the physical impossibility
of crossing the lagoon, it is comfortable,
as well as pleasant from a scenic point of view, to
board a transport vehicle.
There are no buses, no metro, no car-taxis in the
lagoon city… nor bicycles.
Thus, public transport boats are vaporetti or battelli
(traditionally so called by Venetians of yore)
and fast motor-launches, called “lance”, which act
as taxis, ending with one of the most iconic vehicles
worldwide, which has characterised people’s
transport along the city canals for centuries: the
gondola.
Here are a few notes for those who, having just
arrived in Venice, wish to move around by navigation.

ACTV
It is the Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano Company.
Its boat fleet reaches every part of town, including
its major islands.
Buses and trams instead link the Piazzale Roma
terminal to its metropolitan city.
Special line n. 17 links Tronchetto car-terminal to
the Lido island by a ferry-boat shuttle, and further
on to Pellestrina island.
Since 2020, ACTV has been investing in “green”
transport, aiming at its first electrically-powered
vehicles along the main city waterway, the Grand
Canal, eliminating both noise and air pollution
and favouring a wave motion reduction at the
same time.

ALILAGUNA
This company was born as a water-link service
between Marco Polo Airport and focal points in
town: the Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma and Railway
terminals, the Saint Mark and Rialto areas, the Giudecca,
Lido and Murano islands. The navigation
network consists of four lines (+ a tourist one),
each marked by a colour.
Tickets may be purchased at Alilaguna ticket offices,
as well as online.
