President’s Desk
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the first NAPE News
edition for the year 2023. I am pleased to be leading this
Association at such a challenging time that calls for greater
collaboration and demands that individuals and groups such
as ours become more innovative in our thought processes.
NAPE as a critical stakeholder in the oil & gas space will
continue to provide a comprehensive view of the challenges,
opportunities and trends to watch this year as well as
providing platforms for discourse on how to mitigate this
trend.
The global energy outlook indicates that global energy
consumption will grow by just 1.3% this year in the midst of a
decelerating economy and escalating energy costs.
Diminishing gas supplies and extreme weather events will
compel many countries to fall back on fossil fuels, impacting
the green energy transition timelines.
NAPE continues to identify with and support the Ministry of
Petroleum Resources' mandate to grow reserves from the
current 37 billion barrels of oil to 40 billion barrels of oil by
2025.NAPE therefore commends the current efforts of the
Federal Government to intensify frontier exploration.
The theme of our Annual International Conference this year
is Repositioning the Oil and Gas Industry for Future Energy
Dynamics. The Conference Planning Committee (CPC) has
been inaugurated and I am encouraged by the interest that
this year's Conference is getting in terms of emerging
Exhibition subscriptions and registration.I encourage
members to take advantage of the early-bird discounts,
submit technical papers and volunteer for any of the various
Committees for what promises to be an exciting Conference.
I have been privileged to have attended a number of
Conferences since my inauguration as President and I am
excited by the emerging thoughts on the global energy
transition where strategies towards continuing to support gas
as the transition fuel, consolidating the gains of cleaner fossil
fuel exploration as well as finding an African solution to some
of the challenges are routinely being discussed and
progressed. NAPE will also support these efforts by
engaging some of our sister associations in Nigeria and the
African continent to create broader platforms for some of
these discussions.
The second half of 2023 promises to be activity-packed with
the 11th NAPE-NMGS Students' Conference, themed
''Retooling Geoscience Education in Nigeria:
Current Trends and Emerging Realities'' taking
place 6-9 Sept and hosted by the University of
Lagos; various workshops by the NAPE Young
Professionals; a planned Special Session on
Reserves Addition, culminating in the November
Annual Conference. The Continuing Education
Programme headed by the President-Elect will
host a number of Technical/Business meetings as
well as the NAPE Summer School.

we move this great Association forward.
